Anton is such a cool teacher! And quite the best at his job. Now I haven't been in other teacher's classes yet, but I think Anton is going to be hard to beat! Basically he knows what he is doing and does it well!! I will for sure take him again in the future for my other math classes I need to take.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good professor. teaches material which makes everything easy to understand. Best teacher i have had in poly. He has a way of showing the material that when u go back and check on ur notes they all make sense. If u have a chance to take Kaul take him because his teaching and grading is very fair. Homework is extra credit so do it because it really helps and lots of the questions on his tests require thinking so make sure u understand what he is asking for. Quizzes are given and they are in groups and u even get to drop a quiz and a test which is awesome.

Kaul is a very interesting and good teacher. He kept the class pretty involved in the lecture, eventhough it's calculus. He was entertaining and really presented the material well to the class. I took calculus in high school, and I know that this helped me to pass the class. I thought that he went at an alright pace, pretty fast, but I don't know how it was for first timer calculus takers. The class was well structured with a quiz every friday and two midterms and a final. The quizes were ok as long as you did your home work and were in a group that did their home work. Home work was every night and it is graded pretty easily. The midterms were pretty hard. The first one wasn't that bad, the second one was pretty hard. I thought that I went into the final with an A- or B+, and I came out of it with a C+. One gets to drop the lowest midterm. The final was tough. Very rigorous with hard problems. Overall Kaul was a good teacher, his tests were hard, but his class was structured well. He presents the material very well also.

He was a great teacher because he presented the information, explained it, and then asked if you had questions, if not he moved on. It was easy to ask questions and he is great at explaining things. His office hours are not that helpful but durring class he makes things clear so there is almost no need to go to office hours. I think everyone should take him and hope I can take him again myself.

Kaul is a pretty cool guy who knows his stuff. Lectures well on the board and clarifies any questions you may have on the material. Straight foward kind of guy. Turn in hw, take a quiz a week (group quizzes), and two midterms and a final. Midterms are that bad but the final is kinda hard, so study up. Take this guy if you get the chance.

Kaul is probably my favorite professor at Poly...especially when it comes to math!!! His office hours are somewhat helpful and so is the fact that all of the weekly quizzes are GROUP! The best part though, is his grading system: you get to drop the lowest test; realize, there are only 3 including the final, drop one quiz, and one homework assignment and if you do all of your homework, it will count as extra credit!! however, if you dont do any, it will subtract points...its really neat. Really try to do good on the quizzes just incase you mess up on the test oh and make sure your good at trigonometric functions because he tries to throw a little of that in. OO ladies--he is totally goodlooking too...that helped ALOT! I am definatly taking him for calc 142 and recommend him to anyone! Goodluck!!

Professor Kaul is definitely one of the better math teachers I've had! I came into the class having taken AP Calculus in high school so that obviously really helped me, but his different approach from my previous teacher made me understand certain parts of Calculus 1 that I was weak on before (ex. related rates, optimization problems, etc...). His mannerisms that happen during class are funny, even though he doesn't try to be funny. His weekly quizzes are great opportunities to raise your grade, but just be sure you don't get a bunch of slackers in your group or you're stuck on your own...Do the homework, it automatically raises your grade up 3% if you submit all of it. His midterms are not that bad if you study by doing all the homework and reviewing an hour or two the night before. I have yet to take his final, which is next week for me so I'll have a more complete evaluation of this class in a couple of weeks. All I can say is that I hope I have Professor Kaul for later calculus classes! His presentation of the material is very clear and his notes on the board are easy to follow. The only problem is that he may talk too fast for some to keep up if they're trying to copy his notes word for word, and his arithmetic is off once in a while so keep him in check if you think he made a small error. But other than that, he is a very chill professor. Take him at all costs.

Proffessor Kaul is a pretty decent proffessor. He does not like discussing any changes on the tests as far as unfair grading is concerned. 1. If you are taking this class make sure you use plenty of paper as most of his tests go a,b,c,d, & e. If you mention that something is differentiable make sure it is by the right letter, because if you try to save paper, & it looks like it is next to the a part rather then the b he will not give you that, but count half wrong. 2.Office hours w/ most proffessors are helpful, I suggest going once, but for an engineering major like myself it seemed more like he'd confuse it and make it seem harder in his hours. 3. When you are taking notes he does everything sequentially, so # each step as you are writing them down; you could lable the steps later. Best of luck, oh yeah, by the way the final is cumulative.

Professor Kaul is definitely a solid math teacher from my experience in his Calculus 1 class. His grading scheme is fair by all means as he drops your lowest midterm score (taking into account that the final is worth two midterms, therefore counted twice), drops your lowest quiz score, and the homework can raise or lower your grade by 3% depending on how much you do. The first day of class, you may get the impression that Kaul is either intimidating or wierd but don't let that throw you off because he really isn't and welcomes questions even if the answer seems obvious. The class is a standard lecture, but I thought Kaul's method of presenting the material was above average since he wrote down each step and actually labeled their purpose for the problem. The problem was that it was difficult to keep up with his note taking and pay close attention to his lecture because he moved at a fast pace. Some people and I didn't have much of a problem but I could see how others could be overwhelmed. Do the homework. Period. You won't get by in Kaul's class by not putting some effort into the homework. I stress this because you'll learn the hard way when it comes time to his exams. The quizzes are group quizzes and they help a lot because you'll probably forget or skim over a concept here and there and at least there is someone else in the group who probably knows how to do it. Just don't get stuck with a bunch of slackers or it'll suck having to carry the burden of knowing everything (unforunately it happened to a couple friends in my class). The exams are difficult if you don't honestly prepare for them. He doesn't throw any curveballs, but expects you to know everything he's covered in class. Overall, Professor Kaul is a solid Calculus teacher that you should consider when choosing your classes. He totally won't sugercoat your life but he makes it possible to get a good grade if you put an honest effort into his math class.

Professor Kaul is by far one of the best teachers that I have ever had. He helps you learn the material by giving group quizes, which are the best things to study before midterms or finals(because midterms and finals are not group, the questions are easier than on the group quizzes). Kaul is also a great guy, very young, amusing, and enerjetic.

Kaul represents all the material in an interesting, and maybe more importantly, practical way. It's very easy to see exactly why the different concepts are being used and how to use them as well. He does move extremely quickly, so if you're not paying attention you WILL fall behind. However, he is willing to answer every question fully and completely. He obviously cares that the students know the material and do well.

Kaul is a pretty chill teacher but fucking annyoing. He collects homework but it does not do much for you. The first midterm was easy, but the second midterm and final were hard. There are also GROUP quizzes each week. This is an easy class to do well in but you have to be good at taking test. I find his antics pretty annoying because he thinks he is so hip and cool. I recommend this teacher for any math he is teaching. He is cool lets you out early almost everyday. Shows proofs to help you understand, but never test on proofs. He also shows lots of examples and goes at a good pace for notes. First midterm was easy second was still straight forward, but a little more challenging and final wasn't bad at all and group quizzes every week will only help your grade and homework is collected, but graded mostly on completeness. Also homework load is a lower than most teachers.

Here is some advice for all you out there who have the opportunity to take Anton Kaul for any class you can get: do not pass it by. Kaul is a cool guy: he is idiosyncratic and funny, and he is one heck of a teacher. He just reminds me of a starving musician, for some reason (he does dabble in music, as he has a link to it from his website). I really enjoyed coming to class every day. He conveys the material succinctly and effectively, and even though I had learned it all before in High School, I found his approach better. He has an open-door policy and is always willing to stay after class to help on a one-to-one basis. The best part of it, though, is his grading system, which is, in a word, sweet. Kaul

Antons midterms were freakishly easy and the final wasnt bad at all. The quizzes were the hardest part of the class. Homework was worth up to 4% extra credit if you did it all and -4% if you didnt do any. The midterms were just modified homework questions and they were never harder than the homeworks. It was a very easy class and I learned a lot. Also, when integrating indefinite integrals, dont forget to add the constant (+ c) at the end cause he takes points off.

young, cool, funny. Any teacher that walks into a 12pm class and puts down a 32ounce pepsi and says "wow its too early, alright, lets get started" cant be all bad. His lectures are clear, and he answers questions imediately. I get the feeling that his office hours are very boring for him, because no one NEEDS them. Homework can raise or lower your grade by 2%, based on completion. weekly group quizes are meant to raise your grade, and the tests are no harder than the homeworks, so if you can do the HW with no trouble you can ace this class without even studying much.

If you are taking Calculus and you have the chance to have Kaul, honestly take him. His class is probably the best set-up class to help out any type of student. Homework is -4 percent if you don't do it and +4 percent if you do all of it. So, depending on how well you know your Calculus you can decide on the amount of homework you need. Also, there are group quizzes every week. You work in a group of four on one quiz and turn it in. In the end, your lowest quiz grade gets dropped. There are three exams, including the final, and your lowest grade gets dropped. Plus, Kaul is really good at presenting all the material.

Dr. Kaul, as said many times before, rocks. No curve in the grading, but you don't need it. Just be sure to sit with people that know what they're doing (in the first week), because group quizzes will make your grade. Study for the midterms, and you'll ace 'em. On a lighter note, his sense of humor will keep the mood light. He seems more like he should be an art professor, rather than a math professor. I can't wait to take his class again.

Professor Anton Kaul was the best teacher that I have had at Cal Poly so far. He through in jokes here and there to keep things like while still covering everything in detail. Great teacher... i took him again for calc 4. he taught the material very well and made it interesting. usually he would quickly derive an equation to help you understand where it came from but then would end up with a formula and say that if you did not get the derivation its ok all you need to remember is this formula. At the same time he is very willing to answer questions and comes up with different ways of explaining the problem. His tests and quizes are fair and is gracious with partial credit. Ridiculously amazing grading scheme. It's really simple if you look at it like 75% of your grade is final/midterms 25% of your grade is quiz score. Bonus or Minus points added or subtracted to your final score due to homework. He's a pretty above average allright teacher. There's nothing he does immensely wrong. He's a great teacher. I just wish he'd give out practice midterms so you have something to focus your studying on. Otherwise it just feels like you're staring at every chapter trying to remember what's the important things in it. If I had to take him again I would do so without fear. He's still a great teacher.

Anton Kaul is prolly one of the best calculus professors I've had. At first, I was a little confused with his whole way of presenting material during lecture, but after a week or so I got used to it. Has Friday group quizzes that rock if you have a good group. Also, one time my group couldn't finish it in time so he let us take it and just turn it into his office by 5 that day. Also, the problems are somewhat confusing (but c'mon, there's four brains working there!), but if you look confused he'll stand there and lead you in the right direction. He is great with giving partial credit, I pretty much didn't even do the problem remotely correctly for one midterm, and I got 10/20 pts for that problem because I showed that I tried. I was above the average for both midterms and the final, and had a very high B, almost an A. He also presents material so well, and tries to make sure you're always understanding it. We were doing integration, and he would go through a step-by-step process on how we got some integration technique, but then would also show you the easy way. It was great! Also, a tip for his midterms and final -- he'll have a review day, and generally the stuff he does for review, you'll have almost the exact same problems for your test. Take Kaul if you can!

Kaul was a great teacher. The lectures were fun to go to and I learned alot. Doing the homework gave you extra credit as long as you did at least half the homework assignments. There were group quizes every week. The grading structure is arranged so that if you get A's on all the quizes, did all the homework, but failed the 2 midterms and final you could get a C in the class. My only complaint is that the midterms and final were loaded with trick questions and often involved memorizing every equation in the book, including equations from calc 1, which I did not do.

He knows exactly how to present the material in order for you to understand it and will give enough examples in class to where when you're doing the HW you can actually do it all without being completely confused. He teaches with proofs AND examples so no matter which way you learn you will be able to understand the topic. HW is extra credit and all quizzes are group quizzes which is super helpful. He's incredibly helpful during office hours if you actually go in there with questions. If you do all the HW then the midterms aren't that surprising; they are still difficult but fair. - Professor Kaul is a really cool professor and is very clear and concise. - 6 quizzes total, all group quizzes (which helped my grade a lot) - quizzes a little harder than the midterms - 2 midterms - The midterms are completely fair and don't contain anything surprising - Drops your lowest midterm and counts the final twice. - I would DEFINITELY take Professor Kaul again if I could. - I haven't taken the final yet so I can't say anything about it yet. He is giving us like all the equations for arc length and surface area and also all the trig identities for the final which is really nice. - He doesn't give a study guide exactly but he writes down a bunch of really useful practice problems for each midterm and final that you can choose to write down or not. Overall..........TAKE PROFESSOR KAUL IF YOU CAN!!!

Kaul is awesome! He is a very clear and straightforward professor. His tests and quizzes can be challenging, but so is the class. He does give a lot of hw at times but he does teach the material well, Highly recommended for Math 142!

Awesome professor. Super clear and concise, almost always found his lectures super helpful. His tests and hw can be pretty difficult, but he is fair about how he grades (worst test gets thrown out, only have to do 50% of the hw). Would definitely recommend Professor Kaul, one of the best professors I've had.

Kaul is easily one of the best teachers here. He covers all the material clearly, in depth, and at a good pace. He always presents examples for each subject so that the homework is a breeze. He collects homework daily and whether you do it or not, you can get up to 3 points on your final grade. He answers any question whether it's homework or material related. All of the quizzes are group quizzes, which is much easier when you get to collab with people. Both of his midterms are fair and have no surprises. He gives example problems to study for each exam that are pretty close to what you will see on it. The final is definitely fair and really not bad at all; I was able to blow through it in a little over an hour. As long as you study the main things he reviews, you will be fine. At the end, he drops your lowest quiz grade as well as either your lowest midterm or half of your final grade if it was the worst of the 3. Overall, he is a nice guy and an absolutely great teacher and I highly recommend him. He could make any subject easy to learn.

I really liked Kaul. I never went to his office hours and I skipped class a lot, which was a mistake. But I still got a B on the final and ended with a B- in the class. If I hadn't skipped class so much, I would have better understood the material and gotten an A. He presents the material very well. Homework was due every class day (mandatory homework forces you to learn the material); doing all the homework gets you 3 points added to your final course grade, while not doing any of the homework subtracts 3 points from your final course grade. Group quizzes (which doesn't seem like it'd be that great when no one in your group has any idea what they're doing but you) but it actually helps to bounce ideas off your groupmates. Also, if you ever have a question about something on the quiz, he's very cool with helping out.

Very clear and to the point. Plenty of examples that actually directly help on the homework. Doesn't waste any time at all. Class ended early almost every time. Didn't ask my class to memorize or fret on anything that isn't basically essential like trig identities, arc length equations, center of mass. He told us that work problems wouldn't be on the final since (paraphrasing) "students worry so much about it that all they know how to do is pump water and nothing else." Kaul recognizes that the main focus of MATH 142 is methods of integration. He doesn't want you to lose points when it counts for forgetting some equation or identity even though you know how to do the integration. I highly recommend him as one of the best math professors at Cal Poly.

Anton was a really good teacher. He would start off the class by clarifying questions on last night's homework (which was assigned daily). But this didn't waste class time. He would teach clearly so you could understand the theories behind the math, but still used plenty of examples. His grading policy was fair. I don't exactly recall what it was, but I remember that if you bombed a midterm he would have mercy. Also, homework wasn't especially overbearing: difficult and time-consuming, yes, but not too much so. Quizzes were structured to help you learn rather than to make you feel like you're stupid. They weren't a piece of cake, but not unfair. Helpful in office hours.

Just want to let everyone know that Kaul is still an amazing professor, like the ratings suggest here! He goes quickly but presents the material clearly and concisely, so you understand what he's talking about. His weekly group quizzes are difficult, so you should do your homework (even though it isn't collected) or otherwise practice the material so that you and your group members can help each other out and do well. His midterms are easier than the quizzes, and overall the class is set up to help you do well! He is a bit of a distant person but his teaching is so exceptional that that is almost entirely insignificant.

Has been so far my favorite teacher here at Cal Poly! I took calc in high school and that helped me a lot on his class. I was a bit nervous considering I skipped calc 1 here, but picked it up fairly quick. Kaul does a great job explaining the topic and giving examples on the board. I personally like being showed how to set up problems and walking through them rather then given a problem in a group and trying to have to figure it out. There are group quizzes every week which is nice if you get a group that is studious but I got unlucky and was put into a group where I was the only one that studied. His midterms are very fair and if you study hard you will be more than prepared. His office hours were extremely helpful so I would recommend going if you are unsure about lecture. This professor is great and I wish I could take him again!

Wow...That final was insane. Other than that the two midterms were tough too, (the first was murder, the second was ok) but the weekly GROUP quizzes were pretty easy. As long as you actully did the HW (which is optional but worth Ex credit in the end so DO IT) the quizzes were easy. Not too many problems assigned for HW, but his style of lecture is hard to follow. Basically you get to either take detailed notes, or listen to him speak and try and comprehend in class, but not both. He talks waaay to fast to do both. Decent teacher, but the same problem Ive had with all young math teachers...they seem arrogant and hold their knowledge over you just because they can.

Dr. Kaul is not a loving teacher. He will not sugar-coat your life. However, he is an exquisite teacher and I highly recommend him for any math class. The material is presented as it should be and the homework assigned is just the perfect amount. The tests were a little bit hard, but once you get the hang of his tests there shouldn't be a problem. Dr. Kaul is a funny guy once you get to know him and he's a great math teacher.

Kaul is a badass!! He is an excellent teacher and you should feel honored to have him as a teacher. He is no easy teacher by any means so if your looking for an easy A or B then look somewhere else. Very fair grading policy. Group quizes, 2 midterms (Class averages were 68% and 84%), and a final. There is homework due everyday but if you do it all, you get 3% added to your grade, if you do half of it then nothing gets added or subtracted, and if you don\'t do any then you get -3%. So just do the homework. Take KAUL!

Calc 143 with Kaul is a pretty tough class. Expect to get a good amount of homework, although you don't have to do it. It is +-3% to your grade whether or not you do it. The tests were pretty hard and you will have to do a lot of studying to get an A. You will also cover material that other Calc 143 classes do not cover. Don't take Kaul if you are expecting an easy class.

Far and above the best math teacher I've ever encountered. Not only is professor Kaul one of the most normal math teachers I've encountered, but he is the best at it! It is clear that professor Kaul is extremely knowledgeable. Although the course material is tough... he does everything he can to make sure you understand whats going on. Firstly, the homework he assigns is very reasonable and not as "busy work" style that other teachers give. Additionally the homework is extra credit +/- 3% of your grade and is graded on completion. There are 24 assignments (2-3 per week) and if you do all of them you can get up to 3% extra credit. If you only do 1/2 it makes no impact on your grade. If you do none, it will be 3% off your grade. There are weekly group quizzes that are very helpful. The questions are usually much tougher than those on the homework, but you also have a group of 3 others to help. I think professor Kaul uses quizzes as a way to help you understand the material better; not to evaluate how well you understand the material. If your group is stuck on any quiz problems he will give you specific hints to get the right answer, especially on the harder quizzes. The exams (2 midterms and a final) are tough. Study for them, the problems are usually harder than those from the homework. Make sure you take good notes, his example problems are great for studying. The first midterm's average was low (in the low to mid 60s if I recall), but the second midterm is easier (average in the 80s). Don't be discouraged after the first midterm (he drops either one of your midterms or half of your final anyways). Some of the people in the class didn't like Kaul, but I think it is because they don't like the change in style compared to other math teachers they've had. Kaul's class seems very "mathematical", I felt sort of like a mathematician in his class. Although he breaks material down nicely, he also introduces you to the "real world" of math. You learn new symbols and math ideas (nothing hard, and he will admit it won't be on a quiz or test eventually) that other classes don't learn, but I actually liked that he did so. Go to class if you have Kaul. Take the opportunity to learn as much as you can while you are lucky enough to have Kaul as your teacher. When the quarter is done you will be sad that you have to take Calc 4 with someone else.

This guy is a bad ass. You probably have heard bad things about Calc 3, but I feel like Kaul made the material easy to learn. When he teaches, he is super clear and concise, making sure you know how he got from step A to step B. Group quizzes sound like a cool idea, but sometimes you're stuck with the not-so-mathematically-gifted people in the class. Don't think you can just do the whole quiz by yourself because you probably won't have the time. Two midterms were not terribly hard (75 and 67 averages IIRC). Final is a bit tricky but really nothing that made me want to punch a baby. He is also quite young and very enthusiastic about what he does so I'll admit it was fun coming to class. Many people wonder what makes an incredible teacher. I figured that its the can of Diet Pepsi he brings to class. Every. Single. Day.

Anton Kaul is an amazing professor who truly lives up to what everyone says about him. I ONLY received a B+ in Kaul's class because I got a C on the final whereas an 89% and 85% on the 2 midterms respectively. Looking back, his midterms weren't difficult in the slightest- but they gave me a lot of grief and anguish while (and after) I took them. Just a few small mistakes on both of my midterms preventing me from getting as- perhaps perfect scores. So yes, Calc 3 is overrated in terms of difficulty [as a whole]. The only areas of Calc 3 that I found annoyingly difficult were Taylor's Remainder Theorem and Vectors. The former only appears on its corresponding midterm and not the final so you need not worry too much there. But as we got towards the latter of Vectors (with intersecting planes and equations of planes etc), they became harder and HARDER. I also hate to say this but, in a way, Kaul sort of over-estimated how well the class knew Vectors so he went through them rather quickly without dumbing down the information for us. It was a mistake on my part for not seeking more help for those when I needed it the most. Do ALL of the homework and it will give you a 3% bonus to your final grade. Good thing too, because I probably wouldn't have gotten the B+ otherwise. All in all, Kaul is a great professor and I would recommend him for anyone. Good luck to everyone who takes his class. On a side note, he likes to drink Diet Pepsi. A LOT. To Kaul: You have NOT seen the last of me! :o

I am quite confident that almost all of these ratings were done by the same person. Kaul is nice and good at explaining things when ASKED. Other wise he is pretty quick to go over examples in the lecture and doesn't write down key steps which makes going over my notes confusing. I am constantly rushing to write down everything but he always stands in front of everything while he is writing so we have to catch up taking notes while he moves on. His tests are unbelievably hard. The class averages were in the low 50s then mid 60s on the second. He does not curve but drops one midterm or half of your final depending on what is worse. He says he curves the class at the end as a whole but not significantly which is pretty scary. His test questions are WAY harder than any question from the textbook. The nice part about his class is the group quizzes, but only if you don't have lazy partners. You don't choose your partners either and they are the same for the entire quarter.

NO idea why he has such good poly ratings. I had a lot of other hard classes at this time and the material is hard but the average on midterms was always around 50% and he didn't curve, maybe slightly one exam if at all. He just said "I don't understand why this class has such lower scores..."etc. Our whole class wasn't retarded he was just an insane grader. Little partial credit. Hands down the best calc professor at Cal Poly. He's definitely taught this class several times, so his notes were very clear and concise. He did assign homework everyday (to be due the day after), but it was graded based on effort and it helped students stay on top of the material. In addition, he asked the class if anyone had any questions on the homework before starting lecture almost every morning. When I came to his office hours within the first week or so, he saw how lost I was and told me, "If you're this lost already, you should be coming to office hours everyday." And I did. I went to every single office hour I could make it to, and that's what helped me REALLY learn the material. Anton is not only a great professor, but a very cool person. I would show up to his Friday office hours just to sit down and talk with him about random shit. All in all, Anton is a homie, and I would definitely recommend taking him.

Anton's understanding of mathematics is extremely strong. Throw any problem is front of him and he will be able to solve it. As a professor he keeps the classroom atmosphere quite casual and makes sure to highlight the important concepts students will need to learn. His lectures are sometimes dense with abstract concepts, but this is expected the further your progress in math. Before each midterm and the final he gives practice problems which are generally what he will put on the actual exams. Quizzes are done in groups, and homework is essentially a bonus toward your final grade. However, the real reason Anton is one of the strongest professors in the department is because of his patience and willingness to listen to his students. Kaul presents the material so clearly it is impossible to not understand it. He just gives you what you need to know. Grading is sweet. This is how it works. Weekly group quizzes are worth the same as a midterm. Make sure you join a good group because they stay the same all quarter, and at least in my section, about half the class had groups already picked out...Honors kids. Doing all the homework adds 3% to your score (calculated from the formula (2*n-24)/8, where n=# of turned in homeworks (credit/no-credit (0<=n<=24))), and on the 1st midterm nearly everyone is able to get an A. Most people do worse on the 2nd midterm. However, you're able to drop it if you do better on the final, so you have a chance to redeem yourself if you failed it. My advice: study HARD for the 2nd midterm and final! Take Kaul if you can--he's the best math teacher I've ever had. This and prior reviews are no exaggeration.

Kaul is an amazing teacher! Homework pretty much everyday and you get 100 percent if you do it pretty much. Homework can either add 3% to your grade or drop your grade 3% (if you do only half the assignments it doesnt hurt or help your grade). The quizzes are in groups and at the end of the week. They are not too bad, plus you dont have homework assigned on days you have quizzes meaning no hw over the weekend. The tests were very straight forward. Even though I earned an A, I\'m not as crazy about Kaul as everyone else is. The biggest thing I like about him and I think this goes for the majority of everyone else who reviewed him previously, is his grading system. He really fucked me on the 2nd midterm I felt like, but I was able to redeem myself by raping the final. He replaces your final grade with your lowest midterm grade if you do better on the final, or he only counts your final grade by 50% which is really nice. HW is +/- 3% of your grade and is collected every day, quizzes are in groups that he chooses and the lowest one is dropped. I was fortunate enough to get in a really good group so that is key (I think he just picks them alphabetically). His tests are really fair. He is a clear and organzed professor. Calc 4 in my opinion was just Calc 2... except now you\'re integrating 2 or 3 variables instead of 1. I got B\'s in calcs 1 and 3, and A\'s in calcs 2 and 4... I prefer to integrate instead of taking limits basically so maybe that is why I liked this class. I definitely recommend him, but not as much as these other reviews I guess. I went in to his class with really high expectations from reading these other reviews, and was moderately satisfied. Just take him and you\'ll have no regrets.

I got the flu and did absolutely terrible on the first midterm, got a C on the second midterm, studied hard and aced the final. I got a solid A in the class so if I can do it, you can too. Even if you have to take this class early, do it. I am not a morning person but I do not regret taking it at 8am

Amazing professor. And very chill. Almost makes me wish I was a math major...almost. Take his class at all costs, be it 7am or 7pm.

Kaul is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He's very fair, and he is astounding and explaining the material. I would've had an A if I had spent any time at all working in this class because he teaches so goddamn well. Kaul is legit.

Okay...this is the second time I'm posting something about Kaul here because he deserves another 4.0 rating. I'm taking 244 right now with another professor and usually confused during lecture more than half the time because he does most of the steps in his head, and office hours are not much better. Today I had a midterm and had studied for it all weekend and was completely lost on the material. Well I stopped by Kaul's office because I've had him for a quarter of Calculus and have been seeing him for help for the past 4 quarters of math because he is that good. He was able to clarify the last 3 weeks of math in under an hour, and I'm pretty sure I aced my 244 midterm today! So everyone out there...if you REALLY want to learn math and get a good grade for your effort, TAKE KAUL! Everyone else on polyratings would probably agree with me.

I always heard that Linear 1 was easy from friends but this wasn't quite the case in Kaul's class. Nice guy but I struggled throughout most of the class( and this is definitely a class that should be mostly easy!!).

Kaul was a boss! best math professor i've ever had. he's really willing to work with his students and make sure that they understand the material, and he drops your lowest grades which is really nice. plus the hw is extra credit. I definitely studied, but the only reason i got a B in this class was because i had strep and missed two classes and fell behind. Ishould have just gone into his office hours

Fairly good teacher, hard course. If you're having trouble in this class make sure to ask questions and go to his office hours. He was always willing to have extra hours around test time. Know the defanitions because most tests start out with those and if you dont know them you can lose a lot of points. Great teacher, just a hard course. (he breaks chalk a lot, make fun of him for it)

I don't know why this guy has such a high polyratings. His homework and test are very hard. I would avoid him if possible.

Professor Kaul is one of the best professors I have ever taken. If you don't understand something don't be afraid to speak up in class and ask. Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews in this class; as long as you put in work and show effort you won't do poorly.

Professor Kaul is the best professor I have had so far at Cal Poly (even better than the esteemed Professor Retsek imo). He presents material clearly and goes very in-depth with the subjects. He is a great guy, very approachable and good at answering questions. I have nothing negative to say about him. This was by far my favorite class when I took him Spring, 2017 (I also took Calculus IV with Retsek and Linear Algebra I with Shapiro). The material can be very difficult at times, and the homework is very long and can be very daunting, but if you put in the work, you can do well. I don't remember the exact grade breakdown, but the entire grade is just homework, the two midterms, and the final (homework was like ~40% iirc). The homework is graded fairly harshly, but just stay on top of it and go to office hours, and you'll do fine. The midterms and final are much easier than the homework, and the homework will definitely prepare you for them. I got a C+ on the first midterm because I made stupid mistakes, but I managed to get a B+ on the second one and an A on the final, leaving me with a B+ in the class. Take Kaul! He is amazing!

This class is already difficult, but Kaul makes it so much more worse. First of all, he only has three things in the grade book: homework, the midterm, and the final. If you do bad on any of these your overall grade is pretty much screwed. The homework is 40% of your grade which seems nice- until you find out that he makes the homework very difficult and then grades on accuracy. Not to mention, there's no book for his class!! Even after going to at least two office hours per week to get help with the homework, I never once received 100% on any assignment even after going through his review multiple times before turning it in. Not a bad professor when he's lecturing, but that's about all he has going for him. You probably won't do very well in his class if this stuff doesn't come pretty natural to you as he doesn't curve the midterm grade because 15% of the class will get an A and 85% of the class will get a D or an F so he doesn't wanna boost the grades of the people who got A's. This class is by far the hardest class I have ever taken and made me change my major RIP

Kaul is the most awesome math professor I’ve had here at Cal Poly. He conveys the material quickly and efficiently, and is willing to work with students during office hours to make sure you truly understand the material. Be on the lookout for the beard story. If you get the chance, no matter the class, take Kaul.

This class is still in progress, but I can say that Kaul is an excellent professor. He is a young and energetic southpaw from Tufts who is very intelligent and passionate about math. MATH 306 is a pretty tough course and his lectures can be really hard to understand. At times he is unorganized, but he tries really hard to present the material and will clarify any difficulties that you experience in his office hours. His lectures take a little bit of time to get used to, but he definitely will make sure that you understand. He makes homework a very essential part of your learning and they really help you understand the material better. In addition to lecturing on math, he likes to crack out jokes to the class like how he can write and erase at the same time, something only a southpaw can do. Exams are hard, but fair. He has the look of a typical French math nerd with his beret, glasses, and ponytail, which is really cool. Kaul is highly recommended.

Kaul is amazing at making sure you know the material, He is very clear in his lectures and the homework is very short and concise. When you go to office hours to ask questions he doesn't just give you the answers he helps you figure them out for your self. Took some getting used to but I grew a lot taking this class.

Anton is a really good professor to take a math class from. He is a genuine math nerd with an extraordinary persona who is really into the subject and knows math all around. He really enjoys teaching because he wants to know his students personally. His class is pretty laid back as we do homework assignments in about two week intervals, have one midterm, and the final, where he let us skip one problem. Tests are fair with a mixture of easy problems and really hard ones. Despite the nature of the class, you learn exactly what you need to learn and the homework does an excellent job of that. Lectures are straightforward and well-structured for the most part. He likes to go off and crack some jokes or talk extensively about his personal life. Sometimes, something will go wrong in his lectures that prevents the class from moving on somewhere down the line. When that happens, he lets out class early so that he will not waste your time sorting through the mistake. But for the most part, he is effective and efficient in teaching you math in that he even had time to lecture on some off-topics (which we were never tested on). He is really helpful in office in a way such that he will do the whole problems for you if you ask him to and tried it out. For this class, homework was worth a whopping 40%, although it is graded carefully, and that contributed to me getting an A. Overall, he is a fun guy to be around and learn math from. His nerdy personality is cool except that he is a tobacco chewer and you can notice that when you are in his office. Take Kaul.

Kaul is awesome, this was my second quarter in a row with Kaul (my first post is two bellow this one). Knowing he does slow down and that getting behind is bad I did much better this quarter. IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO TAKE A CLASS WITH KAUL DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that about sums it up

I don't know Anton as a lecturer because he didn't lecture in Math 459. All I know is that he is extremely intelligent and cool. If you have a chance to go to his office hours, definitely do it. He's very approachable and way patient so you won't have to feel stupid. My favorite thing about him is that he's very fair with his grading. So to all of you who believe in brownie points, you'll have to actually study to pass a class with Anton.

Take Dr. Kaul if you get the chance! He is an awesome instructor who truly cares about his students. As far as advise goes, do the homework since it is usually around 40% of the total grade in the class. For the tests, know the theorems and definitions thouroughly. AWESOME instructor!!!

Professor Kaul had wonderful organization and was very thorough in all his explanations. He also is great at answering questions. He is challenging, like previous students complained about, but it forced me to really grasp the material in order to do well. I would definitely recommend him for algebra.

Kaul is a boss. He explains things so clearly in lecture, and he's willing to stop what he's teaching to make sure you understand a previous point. His tests are very fair, and the homework load is manageable. If you can't meet during his office hours (like me this quarter), he's willing to set up time outside of office hours to help you. I would definitely recommend him. I'm taking him again next quarter, and to be honest I can't wait!
