Pickett is an awesome guy but I wouldn't call him a good teacher. I didn't buy the book for insurance, basically he told us we didn't even need to buy it, and the only work there is are two homework assignments the whole quarter. The tests are fairly easy and he will curve if they are to hard. He is a financial planner by day and a part-time teacher at night, which means he gets tired and always calls class early. This class takes minimal effort and basically everyone does well. You can also talk to him about anything because he's a normal guy up on current issues. Take him or this class for insurance, it's not bad at all.

Pickett is a good guy. His lectures are pretty dry but not too difficult. Very little homework and tests are reviews of powerpoints from class, that are available online. If you are interested in retirement & estate planning, I would highly suggest Pickett.

This was ranked in the top five worst classes ever. Don't get me wrong this guy is really nice but he just dosent have time to teach becasue he works full time during the day at his own practice. BORING as fuck...... There is a midterm and a final one worth 30% and the other 40%, then there is supposed to be crossword puzzles worth 20% but he never ended up doing any. Atendance is 10% but he never writes anything down so if he knows your name, your in. Don't buy the book, its not going to help at all. I was really stoked on learning this class but really learned small to nothing. He gives everyone either an A or a B so if you want an easy B with no work at all this is your class. Good luck...

He is not a professional educator like so many professors at poly, but he should not be teaching. Around week four, we started doing student presentations. He didnt teach for 6 weeks! then one day, one of the real finance teachers sat in to evaluate him, and he quickly tried to act like he was teaching us something. Easy class, not too much outside work. He has a weird curve where you answer over 50 multiple choice questions and end up getting 15 pts toward your grade. You wont learn anything, since he mostly teaches at night after working all day, so he flies through the slides. Easy B at least, but he may not be around much longer
