Dr. Reaves is an awesome teacher. He presents the information clearly, tests are very fair, and is always willing to help out students. Dr. Reaves, I hope you're reading this, because YOU ROCK! I hope I can take another class from him again.

This was a fun class. I learned a lot about nutrition and professor Reaves made sure that the class knew what would be on the tests. He really cared about us doing well and was constantly asking how he could make it easier for us.

He was an awsome teacher!! Take him if you can. At first he makes you think the class is going to be hard, but it is not. You learn alot about nutrition and he is a very fair grader. Basically everyone gets a 100% on the one project, mine was way too short and he still gave me an A+. He goes over every quiz and drops the problems that everyone gets wrong, he is also very knowledgable about his field, and can answer almost any random question about nurtition. Take him!!!

I thought Mr. Reaves was a very good teacher. He tried to make it intersting which I think with nutrition can be quite hard. He pretty much lectures off of powerpoints which is fine. Just take good notes (beyond whats written on the powerpoints). I used the book for the first half of the quarter and then stopped reading during the second half and still ended up with an A-. He drops a lot of questions from his quizes which is good. I think all of his tests were fair and as long as I studied his practice questions I did fine. You also have a diet project which is an easy 50 points just follow all the directions. He shows some intersting movies and trys to get a discussion going. I thought it was a good class and not as hard as I thought it would be especially since science and nutrition arn't really my thing.

Funny guy. I like nutrition so the class came pretty easy to me, but even for those of you who don't have a clue, you really learn a lot. He's REALLY into muscle building, and kind of looks like Guston from beauty and the beast, but he still knows his stuff. All the notes are online and he drops the lowest quiz. oh, and you get to evaluate your own diet, which is kinda scary/cool.

Very interesting class. I wouldnt recommended it if your trying to take is as an elective from another major... very detailed. He\'s a great professor and its obvious he knows what he is talking about. Make sure you take SOLID notes from his lectures... he takes statements he says and writes them in the tests. Quizzes are much much harder than the exams. Loved this course and sexy Dr. Reaves.;)

If you\'re interested in nutrition at all, this is a good class for you. Dr. Reaves does a great job of keeping you interested. The class consists of 3 tests (2 midterms & final) and all are 50 multiple choice. There\'s also 3 quizzes and the diet analysis project which is really cool. Definitely take this class. Great teacher.

Dr. Reeves is a very knowledgeable and smart teacher. He loves talking about sports nutrition, the studies he's involved with, and fiber! The projects are fairly easy and boost your grade. Tests are mostly multiple choice with a few free response, and his study guides are SUPER helpful.Lowest quiz grade is dropped. A couple questions were tricky but he usually adds a point or two if he notices a bunch of people getting them wrong. For class print out the slides and take notes around them, like in handout style. There is way too much info on each slide to just take notes on paper. Or you could bring your laptop if you don't want to waste paper. Pretty straightforward and i would recommend him for FSN 210.

DR. REAVES IS THE MAN! I took FSN 210 class this quarter and loved it. He's really well-informed and totally knows his stuff. The class had no homework except one 100 point project, which was super easy. Your grade is based on 3 quizzes and 3 midterms, all of which are pretty hard. Tons of stuff off the test is out of the reading and what he talks about in class. Memorize the examples he uses. Overall, a really good class if nutrition is what you're interested in, but if you're looking for an easy elective, DON'T take this class.

Reaves is pretty cool! He's super into sports nutrition so he talks and applies the material to a lot of sports related subjects. He presents a lot of information, and a lot of it won't be on the test. However, you will truly learn a lot from this class. He's a cool guy! Good teacher. But the tests were tough. As far as the projects, they weren't bad. He helps and guides you through them. He allows you to bump off your worst test grade which definitely helps. He even has a couple of classes throughout the quarter where he just posts an online lecture instead of in class.

Lecture was boring and full of powerpoint after powerpoint. It was difficult to pay attention in lecture and focus on what would be tested on. If you asked him a question, he would get off topic very easily. Overall very knowledgeable, but boring. Make sure the memorize specific details..you'll be tested on them.

Dr. Reaves is an excellent teacher and incredibly smart. For being a first time teacher, I thought he commanded the class well and was flexible with some of the material. There aren't assignments to boost your grade, so take each quiz (3 total at 20 points each), exam (2 at 70 points) and the final (100 points) seriously. The quizzes are hard to study for because you'll literally have 100 power points slides to look over, while he gives us a study guide for the midterms and final. We didn't use the book, but it helped to have it around for reference and explaining concepts glossed over in class. Get to know him... he's a really nice guy, very understanding, and always willing to help when asked.

This course is much more demanding than any other FSN classes. Dr. Reaves expects a lot from his students. He realized after the first 3 weeks that many of his students were having problems transitioning to his quick style that he asked us to evaluate him and the class. Right after, he adjusted his teaching style to better fit the class. He is a great professor. The class comprised of 2 midterms, 4 quizzes (drop the lowest score) and one easy assignment. I look forward to taking him for FSN 329.

Reaves is my favorite teacher thus far at Cal Poly, although i'm pretty sure that is very controversial. He is extremely demanding of his students in terms of the amount of knowledge he expects you to know, but is the most straightforward teacher ever. If you love nutrition, you will love this class...make sure you know his study guides backwards and forwards...if you do, you will hands down ace the tests. He asks mult choice, fill in, t/f, and short answer. When you're going over the study guide, you can tell which ones are going to be short answer, so prepare accordingly, and youll do great! He is willing to help you anytime and will adjust his class so that everyone is learning at optimal level...he likes to go fast, but if you slow him down, he is more than willing to do so. be prepared for a very tough, yet interesting and enjoyable 2 quarters!

Reaves is great great great, I definitely think he is the best professor I've had in my three years here. Hard class, very detail oriented, you have to want to do well, which I did. It's definitely possible to do really well. I ended the class in the B range, but it got bumped to an A- via a class curve (I think). Expect to be catered to as much as possible even though the class is challenging. He appreciates his students and his material equally.

By far the hardest class I've taking at Poly, but also the most interesting. I learned so much. Dr. Reaves passion for nutrition is evident; this man knows his stuff. He will always explain something to you again if you need help. One of the beat teachers at poly. There were 2 midterms, a final, 3 quizzes (one is dropped), and 2 assignments. Every single assignment and test for this class is VERY VERY TIME CONSUMING. THIS CLASS IS NOT AN EASY A OR EASY B. But if you have the chance to take this class with him you should!

Dr Reaves is a class act. He is truly passionate about metabolism and equally as passionate about his students' success. Reaves is an amazing man and it's a pleasure to be a pupil of his. I felt so accomplished after finishing this class. FSN 328 was a revelation to me, it showed me that I have absolutely found my passion in nutrition

Dr. Reaves is a very straightforward, easy to understand, knowledgeable professor. His lectures are extremely clear and exams/quizzes are pretty fair. It is a tough class though so be prepared to work! The class consists of 2 exams, 3 quizzes (lowest one dropped), 1 poster assignment, and a final. Also, the book is not necessary to have in my opinion. If you attend all his lectures and take good notes, you'll do fine on his tests.

Reaves is a straight up great guy. Honestly, probably one of my favorite professor in the nutrition department. However, I recommend recording your lectures and listening back for things you missed because some of the most important stuff he says is not on PowerPoint, so you HAVE to go to lecture, otherwise you're kinda screwed. The class is very interesting but very challenging. The tests included fill-ins, multiple choice, true/false, and short answers. For the short answers he wants to draw and explain the pathways etc. Good luck, he's a swell guy so don't be afraid to ask for help!

Dr. Reaves is the best professor I've had the pleasure of having. He is not only passionate about nutrition, but humbly knows just about everything there is to know about nutrient metabolism. He always puts his students first, works through misunderstandings patiently, and gives insight as to how the material will relate to your future path in nutrition. Reaves is dedicated and most importantly, makes his students fall in love with nutrition again. The material is difficult, but he makes it easy to want to work hard at it. The course is structured for your success with 3 quizzes (1 dropped), 2 exams, a final (all with study guides), a project, and potential extra credit. Favorite class I've taken yet!

Ive had dr. reaves for both 328 lecture and 329 lab. He is a very smart professor and know a lot about metabolism but expects way too much out of his students. His lecture was extremely hard and I thought he failed to explain the material in a simple way in class. This class requires so much time and energy as his exams are very challenging. I saw a different side of dr. reaves in lab. He practically built the nutrition lab himself and the labs you do are really cool and you learn a lot about yourself. I thought he was extremely fair in lab and made understand metabolism better. I think dr. reaves care about his students. sometimes 328 can be so hard that it seems like he is out to trick you but in reality i think he just wants his students to learn the material and apply it to our future careers.

Great lecturer I never had a problem with him or his class. And, lots of girls think he's hot for some reason. When i was at Poly in 2008-2012, he was definitely having sex with at least two girls in our major. Plus one graduate student is what was the rumor and i heard from a friend he married a student later, total creep for sure. But i can't believe the #metoo movement hasn't yet caught up with this guy, maybe the girls were into him, but it's not right any way.

Reaves is difficult but excellent! He is VERY specific in what he would like you to know. On his exams, he will have you redraw diagrams that he spends time on during lecture - which if you practice, are easy points. The more difficult part of his exams is the fill in the blank which often contains SPECIFIC information that he might not have emphasized. Nonetheless, if a majority of the class gets a question wrong, he will be fair and give those points back. Although for this class, there isnt often a choice to have another professor, i wouldnt be worried! Pay attention and work hard and you will learn lots of interesting information and do well. He is also very engaging in lecture and clear about what he wants you to know. Its just a lot!

Dr. Reaves is a badass. If you are honestly interested in nutrition, you will learn a lot. But If you don't really care, it will be tough because the 328/329 series gets into detail on mechanism, biochem., pathophysiology, etc. I loved it! And you can tell that Reaves is genuinely excited and enthusiastic about nutrition. Overall, interesting, informative--I felt much smarter after finishing the series. You won't regret working hard in this course.

you don't really have a choice of professors for this class, he is the only one. he is a very knowledgable professor (and hot) with a good sense of humor (and huge biceps). I am usually not good with attendence but I went to his class (to get my daily dose of daydreams in about his hot bod). I can't say anything more about the class except that you must work hard and stay up with the lecture material (instead of wondering how he looks with his shirt off, like i did). good luck with Gaston.

He was a little stressed out this quarter but was still a good guy. He had a hard time grading things in time, but overall everything was pretty good. This class was different than 328, and was a lot harder for some people. Be sure to study everything, and remember little details about vitamins.

The best professor at Cal Poly. As metabolism is required by all nutrition students and is only taught by Reaves, it's a good thing he is the best professor in the department. An unlimited amount of knowledge comes from this man and sitting in class can be overwhelming, it is an extremely tedious class, but it is also a class that will make you glad you're a nutrition major. Thank you Reaves for being inspiring and for teaching such a hard class, so well.

Professor Reaves is hands down the best professor at Cal Poly. I've never done one of these poly ratings for a professor before, but I feel so strongly about Reaves that I felt it necessary. FSN 328 and 329 were by far my favorite classes hear at Cal Poly, not only because of the cool information that us Nutrition majors actually enjoy learning about (unlike the food service classes), but because of Reaves. He's a great teacher, he simplifies the information as best as he can with the material he has to teach us, he's passionate about the material, he's comedic, he grades very fairly and really wants you to succeed. If you have the opportunity to take one of professor Reaves' classes, take it, you won't regret it. Sure the class wasn't easy, but it was still my favorite class and he's definitely my favorite professor at Cal Poly.

Reaves basically is the sports nutrition expert in this school. His class is great, especially if you like the science behind nutrition. The classes being split into Metab 1/2 vs Macro/Micro is basically the same thing, and he uses the terms interchangeably, though this may change as time goes on as I was in the second course 331 was offered. He is great to ask questions to because he provides expertise, but with great hesitancy in his certainty. About his teaching style: He speaks in a structured way. So much so that the lectures he has online from 3+ years ago mimic precisely what is said today. He emphasizes exactly what is important and plays no games: he says what's on the test. That being said, his tests are good, and thorough. They are fair, but only more difficult if you don't put enough time in to understand important terms and systems. The study guide is your bible. Tips for the class: Draw the diagrams, and write out the steps of them. Make flashcards of the important enzymes and their substrates. Write down what he says to write down and the class will be fine. Try to take the class as your "hard" class for the quarter if you want to maximize your grade.
