i think that this professor is highly educated in what he teaches but if you're foreign to the use of jargon then i suggest that you take another course. he is very helpful and willing to answer questions whether he knows them or not he will be sure to give you an answer. it's more helpful to go to lectures if you don't the textbook helps a lot too. i highly suggest him as a professor because he is thorough and very helpful, his lectures aren't boring either he cracks jokes every now and then to gain the attention and hold the interest of the class.

Dr. Wendt is a really cool guy. This course was really hard but Wendt made it easier to understand. Sometimes he gets a bit sidetracked and can go off on tangents that are relatively entertaining. He uses powerpoint and posts all of his lectures online so you can print them out. It really helped in keeping the note taking down. Wendt was a good teacher for a class that was really hard. If you can take Dr. Wendt do.

Professor Wendt makes class interesting and is very clear when explaining things. He is always willing to stop and go over something again if someone has a question. I highly suggest you take him.

at first I thought Wendt was gonna be an egotistical hardass but first impressions are very misleading. He was a prof, very down to earth and knows the subject. He definitely has a very positive aura as well.

He is a good teacher however he puts to much information on the slides that he gives for notes. He doesnt involve the class as much, but he does ask aquestion every so offten. It is a tough class but if you read before lecture and go to class you can do well. He is friendly and easy to ask questions and will find out something for you if you want to know about something. The test are hard, make sure you not only know the material but that you can apply it. The questions can be tricky so make sure you re read the questionand ask yourself what he is really asking.

Dean Wendt was a good guy. I had a good introduction into the biology department with him teaching 160. Tests were pretty hard, make sure to use online resources from your text book. He is very helpful in office hours and cares about his students. I recommend him.

Dr. Wendt was a wonderful teacher. He sincerely is interested in Biology and he gets pretty excited during lecture, though he does tend to go off on a lot of tangents. He cracks little jokes in class which keep you paying attention. All the slides are on Blackboard, and sometimes they are about 18 pages long, which is annoying to have to print all of them out. There are only 2 multiple choice midterms and the final is cumulative, but if you study and really understand the material (enough to make cross comparisions with other material and apply your knowlege), then you will do fine.

Dr. Wendt is a very enthusiastic and understanding teacher. He loves biology and it shows. If you can get Wendt for ANY class, take him.

Wendt's tests are hard. This class had a lot of reading and memorizing. Some of this tests questions come from the study guide questions at the end of the chapter. To study for his final, look over the old midterms (which is probably posted up in front of his office). I failed lab, that's why I got a D+.

Dr Wendt is by far the worst biology teacher that i have ever had. I know my stuff when it comes to biology and so does Dr. Wendt, however, even if you memorize every single slide from his lecture, it will be of no use to you when you go to take the test. Also, opening the book is not helpful either because none of his questions come from the book. I used to attend all of the lectures, even though it wasnt necessary to pass the class, but towards the end I stopped going. On he final, I got the best grade out of all of his tests, which wasnt a very good grade at all. Basically you will learn if you have Wendt, you just wont do well in the class. He is a big fish mand and he tends to try to relate everything to the ocean and fish. Good luck.

Dr. Wendt was a great biology professor. He really knew the material, very excited about it, and explained things well. BUT, it was hard, and theres a lot of work involved. If you actually study and understand all the slides and terms then you're cool. But its a pretty interesting class if you like bio

Most of these entries do not really portray Dr. Wendt. He is a very enthusiastic teacher, but he too often allows his class to take control of the environment. Interuptions and unrelated questions, which should be left to office hours, frequently interrupt his lectures. He does, however, explain the material and very clearly and his tests are fair so that one can easily guess what will be on an exam. The assigned readings are only helpful if you have done it before lecture, otherwise they can be confusing.

Dr. Wendt was awsome. His lectures were fun, he's a bit quirky, which works perfectly with his lectures. after the first few weeks, I stopped reading the book and just depended on his notes, and I did fine. His lecture notes online are extremely helpful. Definitely take his class

There isn't anything wrong with Dr. Wendt. His lectures are good, sometimes better, and I believe he generally cares about his students. On the other hand, and I could write this about EVERY bio professor I've had so far, he seems to care way way way more about his research than about teaching. I came to Poly instead of some of the UC schools I was accepted to because of the great teaching reputation. I still see that commitment in my MATH and CHEM courses, but frankly the whole BIO department has been an enormous letdown. Wendt is certainly competent but I did not come to Poly for that, I came here for *great*. Incoming bio students, be warned, you may be contemplating a major change before the year is over.

Dr. Wendt was a really cool professor. He appreciates studen't ideas and input, and gives interesting lectures. He isn't afraid to joke around a little bit, but he also gives straight forward lectures that apply directly to his tests. He teaches using powerpoint, and is a very good teacher.

Dr. Wendt is a pretty cool guy at first but I realized after the first test that he doest correlate the tests and his lectures well. He makes things seem too easy and then when you go to take the test its way above what you expected. His tests are whether you are a good test taker and can recognize not the right answer but the BEST answer. Read the chapters before lecture, DO THE CD ROM ONLINE QUIZZES AND INTERACTIONS-- he always takes questions out of that. My supplementary lab def helped me but personally wendt is not a good teacher to match with me. I don't learn well with teachers like him who don't engage you with his lectures and they are strictly powerpoint. Print out the powerpoints but after the lecture. Take notes and engage yourself. He doesnt seem too approachable and frankly seems too busy for you. Also for the lab keep up with your labbooks and actually do the labs, dont just copy. The first quiz is all written and the easiest so study for it and do well because that is what will help you. The rest are all visual labs where he sets up all the microscopes and plants animals and such. So if you didnt see it in lab then you wont get it in the quiz. Study with groups and also theres a microscope room with all the slides and its quiet so ask where it is (for us it was right across the room). My best advice for this course is go to lectures, go to the labs, and keep up.

Dr. Wendt is a good teacher. The main problem with this course is that it's very very general. Covers 4 billion years of biological history, give or take a couple million. To do well you need to read the book and utilize the CD-rom/internet resources.

Dr. Wendt is all in all a wonderful professor. He explains the material clearly and concisely. He is very personable so can relate to his students very well. I will say that his tests are probably worth too many points with not enough points to make up for errors. His labs are long and tedious, but that might just be the course. His intros to lab could be shorter though. Lab quizzes are amazingly difficult, and again worth an exorbitant amount of points. I would recommend him though. Just study your ass of for the quizzes.

Dr. Wendt is a cool guy and he presents the course material clearly. I had him for both lecture and lab so it was helpful being able to ask him questions about the entire course. He puts his notes on blackboard before class so most kids just print those out and take notes directly on there, which is nice. His lab quizzes are extremely difficult but they only cover the stuff that happens in class. He won't throw anything totally random at you. Keep on top of your lab notebook, too. It's a bitch trying to catch up on everything at the end of the quarter. Also, Dr. Wendt seemed to be gone a lot this quarter. It was usually for conferences and other important things but it was kind of discouraging to not have him around to answer questions and such. I would definitely recommend using the online resources that he provides to you (masteringbio.com) as he took several test questions directly off of there. Don't skip class and put a good, quality effort into the class and you should end up with at least a C.

I had Dr.Wendt for lab and i really like him. this lab class is dreadful and rather difficult but he was a really good lab teacher and was genuinely excited about the material. He was very approachable and had all our names memorized by the second class meeting. He tried to be helpful in studying for tests and he was always willing to take time to clarify. He is the associate dean for the college so he often had to leave class early to go do other things but overall i think he was a good teacher and i really wish i could have him again for a lab thats not so hard

Professor Wendt is by far one of the best professors at Cal Poly. The only problems with the class are probably the lack of student-teacher communication during lecture and the overwhelming amount of material. The communication problem is only because of the size of the class (it is a large lecture hall) and it can be solved if you just put in some extra time and go to office hours (if you even have questions). The material can be really boring at times, and it's hard to stay awake, but Wendt does his best to keep it interesting. Sometimes, he actually warns you of the boring parts and tries to go faster through them. I got a B because I didn't study for the final, but if you put in the time to study it usually pays off. Also, it helps that he loves his material. The guy is really intelligent, but still communicates like he is a kid, which is awesome. Take this professor if you have to take this class, the lecture is only one day a week so go to it every week, as almost every lecture he'll tell you what you need to know and don't need to know from that lecture for the tests.

Dean is the man!!! This guy gives 2 quizzes, a midterma and final...nothing else. Trust me though, the 2 quizzes are jokes I got perfects on both of em. He hands out a bunch of questions which are possible quiz questions and then quizzes you on two of those questions. Merely go over the questions and you got it. Midterm I got an A and was very straigtforward. Final was hard tho, and he accually curved the class at the end because kids fucked up hardcore.

In class, a great professor. Quizzes are free points, and he has one midterm and a final. He explains the information clearly and concisely to a bunch of engineers that don't care about biology. However, his exams are harder than they should be. The class average on the final was a 62. He did (eventually after much pressure) curve the final. The midterm was at the same difficulty level, just not cumulative like the final. Otherwise, excellent.

Let me just start by saying I HATE biology, but that has no bearing on my evaluation of this professor. He is an great lecturer. Not because he does Power Points the whole time, but because he can relate to the class. He is very open to class interaction and questions. He is honest when he admitts that he doesn't know the answer to a question, but most of the time he will research and bring the answer by the next period. He's also pretty funny! TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR BIO 213!

Dr. Wendt is an overall good professor, but a little too intense for the material covered. His lab reports are OUT OF CONTROL, i have taken O-chem, Cell bio, and other lab intensive courses, and i can honestly say they were not graded as hard as Dr. Wendt grades his. He expects you to have journal references in weekly lab reports and it has to be done in scientific journal format!!!!... ITS A FRICKIN LAB REPORT MAN!, besides that. He is a pretty fair and nice professor. Also that 7 hour lab on friday, you WILL GO ALL 7 HOURS! it sounds fun but.............. by hour 6 oh man, you want to go home.

Dr. Wendt is an excellent professor!! There is a three day a week lecture for this course, and a 6 hour lab on friday. His lectures always made sense and were fun to listen to because he is always so energetic and enthusiastic. His exams were very straight forward. He likes to put data analysis at the end, which again will is a useful excercise for the future, but I would say this is always the most challenging part of the exams, because you really have to think and apply your knowledge. The lab is long, and sometimes a little tiring, but if you get into what you are doing, it is fun and goes by really quickly. How many classes do you have where you can spend an entire day outdoors (only a few)? Not all of the labs are outdoors, but they are all really interesting. He does push high standards, but you will be thankful later on, (it prepares you for any career and lab reports for other courses) and his standards ARE attainable. He wants you to learn to write professional reports for lab, and you do have to site literature, but if you have any trouble with this or don't know how to do it, he is always more than willing to help. Also, he doesn't have you write lab reports every week, just 3, and no notebook or anything. Try to keep up with the material and you will do well with this class. He is always willing to help during office hours. I would recommend Dr. Wendt for any biology course. I loved this class and would take it again if I could!
