Sturm is the coolest professor you will ever have. He is so easy to talk to and will answer all questions. He doesn\'t have set office hours but makes himself readily available whenever you have anything to talk about. There is no final, but one small midterm. The only thing that counts toward the grade are essays, which you have to write about 6 of. I thought it would suck having a Friday morning class, but he definitely makes it fun and worth going to. I love Sturm, he\'s the man -Sig

Sturm is a great guy who cares about his students, wants them to have fun. The class structure is different from any other at cal poly. There is no grading rubric, so grades are pulled from a hat, and there is a lot of favoritism. Only the first 4 chapters are covered, there is a lot more to this subject, so if you really want to learn risk management, don't take this class. Most of the labs will be cancelled. For such a reputable and expensive school, you would think teachers would want to develop students' professional abilities and knowledge, and take students education and future seriously.

Now here is a cool class for the Rec majors. The reason this class was so great because of the man who taught it: Kirk Sturm. A funny individual who has a great connection with people. He made the class a good experience for some of us who are annoyed by most of rather lame poly professors. A bonus was a trip to Hearst Castle to learn more about Risk Managment. Too bad Kirk is not going to teach this class but a guy name Bob is and he learned from the master so it should still be a cool class.

Ok, this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a Polyrating in my three years here.. A+ the most caring and helpful teacher I've had at Cal Poly. Sturm genuinely wants his students to succeed and learn the material & he is very approachable. He made even dry material seem interesting by relating it to fun events in a useful way and he never minded staying after class to work with students until they understood each day's concepts. 342 is one of the most helpful classes I have taken in the RPTA major. Cal Poly: Please have Sturm teach more RPTA classes!

Kirk is enthusiastic and genuinely cares about all his students. He presents the material in a relevant way so that it truly makes sense and you understand how to apply it to your aspiring career. His office hours are flexible and he's always happy to meet with students to make sure they are on track and really sets them up to succeed. The only thing is that he does not use PowerPoint or any sort of slides during his presentations so make sure you listen closely and take notes! Overall a great professor and can't wait to take more class from him in the future!

Sturm teaches in a way that you will retain and use the information learned. I took him for RPTA 205 and this class, and he exceeded any teacher I've ever had (highschool or college). I highly suggest any course he teaches. If Poly gets rid of Sturm, RPTA will not be the same. He helped me understand class material, had flexible office hours, had relevant assignments/tests, and went above the call of duty by helping me with other coursework (besides his own class). Please take him, and rate him high, because Poly needs professors like him.

Professor Sturm is one of my favorite teachers I've had at this school. He is funny, so nice, and genuinely wants you to succeed. His work load is totally manageable and you will actually feel like you learned something.
