Not a good prof. for Material 106 lab section. He has no obvious "field" experience and the field trips were a waste of everyones time. I talked to others in different lab sections and their instructors actually was informative at construction sites and kept up with what was going on in lecture hall. NOT Bruce. He will tell you to redesign your lab project the way he sees fit and go on and on and on and on about nothing. If you are the kind of person who likes to sit thru a class where the students walk all over the professor, this is the class for you.

Even though this guy doesn't teach here anymore, I just thought i'd add more weight to his horrible (and accurate) rating on this site. Taking a class with Bruce was one of the worst experiences of my life, no joke. Although the projects were somewhat interesting, he is unbearable as an instructor, and definitely is a waste of your time. He may know his stuff, and he seems like a nice guy, but I can't help but think his true purpose and agenda is to prevent people who he doesn't think will make good architects from progressing further in their study of architecture. He doesn't give a break to the best students, but he realizes that if they truly love the subject that they might put up with it and make it through the class. Anyways, if I had known before what this would be like I would never have taken it, and probably changed my major.

This is a fast paced class. Two assignments each week, one due Monday the other due Wednesday. As much as people complain about him, he is not that bad. He is a fair grader. As long as you turn in all your assignments you should do fine in the class.

Bruce Silverberg is a terrible lecturer, in fact, the worst I have ever seen. He has no ability to stay on topic and wanders all over the place, rendering incoherent the lesson he tries to teach. On a 1 on 1 basis he improves slightly, if one can handle him telling you to completely redo your project because it's not the way he would do it. Most of the time the comments he makes individually are good informationally (he does know his stuff and his profession, he just can't teach it), but the tone and way he says them turned me off completely since I don't take well to being told what I did was "not right" and needs to be changed even though this was the first time I'd picked up drafting materials. An extremely nice, and well intentioned person, but a horrible teacher.

Don't listen to these other people. In fact don't listen to anyone who ever talks about Bruce Silverberg except me. Maybe Bruce insn't the clearest lecturer in the world, but he's a fabulous guy who will teach you a thing or two on the personal level. That's what it's all about, and that's what Bruce is all about. He will help you. He knows what he's talking about. People don't like fish out water. Bruce is a fish out water and he's a caring guy. I couldn't follow his lectures, but I learned a lot about Drawing, and life from this guy. Don't listen to white suburban kids that don't know a thing about what really matters in life. Bruce is a good teacher.

He has a terrible problem of going off on tangents that only end up wasting class time. If you ask him a simple question, instead of just quickly telling you the answer he tells you that you need to wait until the break to ask him, or he will go on and on for like 10 min when a yes or no would sufice. There are certain people that should not be teachers, and Bruce is one of them. I never thought that I could hate one of my major classes so much. Save yourself and take a different teacher!!!

Stay away from this professor! He cannot lecture worth anything and spends most of the time talking about completely irrelevant things. He is horrible about answering questions, he'll give you a ten minute lecture that won't answer anything. He acts like he's afraid of the students and will try to defend himself if a student questions his methods. Basically, I didn't learn one thing through taking this class and will be certain to never take a class from him again.
