Pretty easy class. She gives out 10 note cards a quarter and each are worth 1 point out of 100. 2 midterms 40 points each and one 1 page paper worth 10 points. Tests are straight forward i just found it hard to actually go to class cause it can get dull. You dont need the book dont buy it it is a waste.

Astrid is a favorite professor of mine. She relates well to the students and really knows what she is talking about. This is because she has her teaching degree along with her LA degree. Sometimes, I felt like she was too easy on us and could have pushed us harder.

Astrid is an easygoing teacher that will not always follow project requirements to the letter. She gives the flexibility to be good just for being you. Be polite and show up on time or 5 early. You will hurt your grade regardless of how \'good\' your projects are. Be a good student aand she is great, heck she loves almost everyone and she will tell everyone point blank what to expect in the future. It was the one time I saw her passionately angry and it was with the chronic late and absent students. She can also be a little too easy in grading. Ask her to challenge you to be better and sh will give you the tools.

i <3 Astrid Reeves. I am not a good student and Astrid and I are not the closest people in the department, yet astrid can get passed the fact that i am an extremely unmotivated slacker. She treats me with the most respect out of anyone in the dept. She takes the time to make your time with her personal. She has learned my back story and completely understands where i am coming from and because of this she has been able to push me to produce some of my best work and she is the only prof that can keep my attention and inspire me to work hard and stay motivated. The other day she brought up a project i did with her 3 years ago and remember more details about it then i did! wtf, mate?! Yeah, her classes are easy, and you get out what you put in. Work hard and study, you get an A and learn a lot. Slack and skate by, you get a B and maybe don't learn as much. Absolutely take her for an elective, and if you're lucky enough to be in the LA dept, take the time to get to know her. Trust me, she's someone you want on your side.

It was an easy class... I found it really interesting, but other kids in the class I'd talk to thought it could get really repetitive and not so interesting... The book is needed only if you want to get an A because she'll throw questions on the tests not covered in lecture from it. I really liked Astrid. You can tell she has a really cool personality and would be fun to party with. Ha!

Astrid did a great job with this class. I took it as a GE and thought it would be boring, but Astrid's pictures and presentations were genuinely interesting. The class is basically about gardens in Europe, so if you've got nothing against that, take it as an easy GE. I really don't see how you could not get an A in her class as long as you pay attention (no laptops) and go to class.

Astrid is a very easy going and straight forward teacher. If you show up to class and pay attention, this class is a breeze. No need to buy the textbook, I never read it and still got an A. The tests are also very easy. Basically a good C3 to take even if you are not an LA major.

Oh my god I fuckin love Astrid. This class was oh soooo easy. She practically hands you an A. Two midterms, ten point paper, and attendance points make up your grade. No final and trust me, you don't need to buy the book. So glad I took this class during the summer because I hardly studied for this class, then again you really don't need to study for this class. Besides that, Astrid is very approachable and just super chill in general. I highly recommend to take this class to fulfill your C3. It would be the best decision of your life

Astrid's lectures are beautiful and interesting. I've had her in a few classes and she always holds my attention and makes class enjoyable with her smart and classy way of presenting. I can't imagine how anyone could find her classes boring. Perhaps it's because many of you are fresh out of high school and your raging hormones and ADD are stifling your curiosity. Astrid recommends great books and gives out useful, informative handouts. You should be thankful for these things if you are at all interested in Landscape Architecture. We all like to get good grades, but I find it ridiculous that so many of you care about nothing but your grade. What matters in the end is whether you learned something, not how hard it was to get an A. I have learned a lot from Astrid's classes. If it is important to you to get an A in her classes, the number one piece of advice I can give you is to show up to all of them. That is very important to Astrid, and your grade will probably suffer if you don't.

I want to start out by saying, if you have the opportunity to take Astrid, DO IT. She is the greatest. Besides the fact that she is an easy grader, she makes the material really accessible and takes material that could otherwise be boring and makes it interesting.

Dr Reeves is great. I wish I could have completed this course: I had to withdraw from the quarter because health issues came up. I was sooooooo disappointed. The class is very broad in its scope: covering LA of course but also history, anthropology, and philosophy. I'm a physics major who took this course thinking it would be just an easy way to take care of C3 GE, but the class was actually cool, at least as far as I got. Astrid was understanding and very supportive when I fell ill. I'm trying to get into her LA 212 class for next quarter, which doesn't look good at this point. If you have the opportunity to take Astrid STOP READING THIS AND ENROLL IN HER CLASS RIGHT NOW. Her classes fill up quick for a reason.

Take this professor. She is probably the best professor I've had at Cal Poly so far both in teaching capability and attitude. What I thought would be boring and a waste of time, turned out to be an interesting and fairly easy class. A word of advice, go to every lecture (even if you choose not to pay attention) and do not leave early as 10% of your grade is based on attendance that she does on days that a lot of people do not show up or leave early. Awesome GE class

I loved this class! I am a business major and my mom is into Gardens, so I took this thinking it would be an easy GE. It was, but it's also an interesting class. Attendance is essentially optional (200+ person lecture), but I found myself going every time. Who doesn't want to sit back and listen to Astrid show pictures of cool gardens she saw on vacation? Oh, and it is a very easy A. She gives a study guide before the midterm and final, a few extra credit opportunities, a small attendance grade which is an incentive not to skip, and a 2 page paper which will probably get an A. If you have the chance to take this class, DO IT!

Go to class, study up for the midterm and (not cumulative) final, and you should get an A no worries. The class is out of 100 points, 40 for midterm, 40 for final, 10 for a 2 page 'pensee' (find a source and write about a topic. Takes under an hour), 10 for attendance (Five 2 point in class activities). The in class attendance was along the lines of get in a group of 3 and write your name on a paper. You can probably do this for your friends if they don't show up and you want to get them credit. Astrid gives you a study guide for the midterm/final and someone in our class turned that into a google doc and shared it with the whole class. Everyone filled it in and helped each other. Do this for your quarter! She mentioned it in class but didn't seem to concerned about it, so go for it! The only thing I didn't like was that after the midterm (1 hour) she lectured. She didn't give us a heads up and I only brought a pencil and eraser so I skipped out. That was the day she decided to take attendance. TL;DR: One homework assignment (30min to hour) for the whole quarter, midterm/finals have study guides and lots of review. Easy A!

I loved professor Reeves! She was so sweet and so excited about the material she had to present every day. Her guidelines we're pretty clear - 3 quizzes, 1 pensee, 1 journal and a few homework assignments. Everything was pretty straight forward. You will pretty much get at least a B if you do all the work and study for the tests. It's pretty easy to get an A if you try somewhat. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Astrid Reeves is super chill. The class is easy. You have to write a one page pansee, but its really easy to do. The tests aren't easy, but they are straight forward. You just have to memorize the terms she gives you. People who complain about Astrid are idiots. You don't need to go to class to pass, so if you don't like it don't go. Participation is only 4% of your grade. The slides aren't very helpful to study, so just look at the outlines she posts on polylearn.

LA 211 was a great class. I originally signed up for the class cause I thought it was going to be super easy and what not. Yeah, her lectures may be somewhat hard to follow, but she really knows Landscape Architecture. The ENTIRE course is out of 100 pts (40 point midterm, 40 point final, 10 point essay, and 10 random attendance points). The final isn't cumulative, and she tells you everything you need to know for it. The tests are all multiple choice and she has two extra credit questions on each of the two tests. I showed up to exactly 50% of class and still did fine. No need for the textbook, just cram for the test for 4 hours before, you'll do fine. TIP: HIGHLIGHT whenever she says "YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS." It doesn't really get much easier than that. Take this class.

Dr. Reeves is a really nice and interesting person but I thought this class was pretty boring. In the beginning I signed up for it because I thought it would be a fun and interesting GE to take but after the first few weeks I felt that her lectures were very repetitive. There are only a couple of assignments (like one paragraph of writing) and attendance points. The midterm and final were not bad at all. This class was ok and I would recommend it if you are interested in Landscape Architecture and an easy A.

This is a great class to take as a C3 GE. It doesn't require too much work. The class is out of 100 points, with 2 40 point non-cumulative exams, points for class participation, and a writing assignment. She gives study guides for the exams which are VERY useful to study. There are reading assignments, but you don't need to read to do well in the class, honestly all you need is to study the study guides and go to class!

A teacher who really is driven to bring out the best in you I think. The material is a little boring but I appreciate her effort to give it her unique spin and keep the class awake. My particular class was pretty quiet but I met with her during office hours a few times and she clarified any questions I had. Good GE class to knock out if you need it and if LA is your major, then don't be worried.

This class overall is a very interesting class. The lectures can be long which makes going to class sometimes difficult. Astrid, is super cool and understanding as a teacher. The course is made up of a short writing assignment, a small individual project, 3/4 attendance assignments (so yes you have to go to class), a midterm, and a final exam. She also offers an extra credit assignment too which can bump your grade up. Overall a very fair and easy GE, with a very nice and understanding professor!

I came into this course not knowing a single thing as to what I should expect from it. From the Polyratings, I saw that it was a very easy A and I decided to take the course. The course is the same thing everyday, Astrid goes on and lectures about different gardens each night and says "write this down" for the things that you should know. This class only consists of attendance checks, a small essay, a quiz, midterm, and a final. For the midterm and the final she does give you a study guide, however it is very broad. Going into these exams you really need to really study and know the material she has covered. It is an easy A, only if you study. There is a lot of information covered and not being a landscape architecture most of the material was very foreign to me. Overall, this course is very do able and low maintenance until you get closer to the midterm and the final as you have to start studying then.

I'm a business major so this class was super boring/uninteresting to me, but it's a pretty easy class overall. One multiple choice midterm (40%) one multiple choice final (40%) one short paper that's pretty much full credit if you do it (10%) and attending class on random days she has you turn in a piece of paper with some points from the lecture (10%). A lot of people don't show up, but going to the lecture helps to get these attendance points, and during lecture she highlights things that will be on the tests. The study guides are also helpful. Overall it's a boring class but it's a good class to take as a GE or elective if you are looking for an A.

I'm not an LA major and took this for GE credit. That being said, this prof made the class really interesting, even for non-majors. No. I don't know what everyone is on down there but DO NOT TAKE REEVES. Like sure sometimes she makes a joke but it's just SOO awkward cuz she'll be like "you guys it was a joke" for the next 5 mins. No. Go on with the lecture so I can go home. The class had some interesting bits, near the end, but in the beginning I hated it so much. I read all the great reviews and was so excited to take this class, but boy was I wrong. The midterms weren't as easy as everyone said they were, not in the least. I swear she's like paying people to give her good reviews, she always says stuff like "that's why you guys are all here right? it's an "easy class" and "I give out A's"" I swear it's all a scam. If you are looking for a stress-free GE, this is definitely the one. Astrid is SUPER chill and posts all of her lectures online, gives study guides for all of her exams that are really straight forward, no tricks. She really appreciates people who come to class and participate, but she gets that most people sit in the back on their computers so she usually just makes jokes about that. The material is really easy and the class is an easy A, she's a really nice person and even though the lectures can be kind of boring for 2 hours, the class is a nice break from a heavy course load.

1. Exam One 40 points 2. Exam Two 40 points 3 Pensée or Persuasive Argument 10 points 4. Assignments/Attendance 10 points Total: 100 points Exams are relatively easy if you memorize the info from the study guides Professor Reeves provides. Exams are 40 questions of matching, T/F, and multiple choice plus 2 extra credit questions. Pensee is like 1-2 pages. Assignments are short and easy. She gives attendance points on random days and every lecture she tells you what you should know for the test, so there is no reason not to go to class. Use the LECTURE GUIDES she posts on PolyLearn to take notes in class, so you don't miss anything. Astrid is a lovely person. Her class is VERY easy, so long as you attend lectures (which can be long and boring at times) and review her study guides. Just be careful you don't relax too much, because there are very few points in the gradebook. There are 2 exams, 2 papers, and participation points (which are random). She is nice and willing to answer any questions you have. The lectures were not all that interesting in my opinion. There are two exams, each worth 40% of your grade. They seemed hard while I was taking them but I ended up doing well, so I think she curves them. Study the study guides and go to her review lectures before the exams because a lot of what she will talk about will show up on the exams.

As many people will state, she literally is a mother to her students. Always kind and considerate, and when someone is confused or wishes to comment on something she'll hear them out. Will try to help you out even if you only show up a few times. The class is all by powerpoints, small clips, and a lot of pictures. However, the ones posted online don't show every slide, so I would recommend still attending her classes. Filling out the study guide helps, but recognize that she only pulls SELECTIVELY from that guide. Her exams always have a matching names section, so keep that in mind. Her 2, I REPEAT 2, assignments for the quarter are the bare minimum, and even though I did them last minute, it was still easy to complete (like 1-page assignments) While it was a GE requirement, I found the class very interesting from the point of view of an allied major, I hope you will too.

While Astrid is a good professor, the course material isn't very clear at times. Basically, we studied the natural environment (terrain, etc.) of a particular site and determined how to develop it while taking into consideration site constraints (i.e., slope, noise). The projects were somewhat cumbersome, and no one was really sure how to do them. We were buried with thick handouts even though only the lecture outlines were helpful. Overall, I didn't mind the class. However, be prepared to spend several hours on the projects if you want them to get done correctly.

I have taken a liking to Astrid. I admit that I'm only second year, and I haven't met the majority of the LA professors, but I must say that of what I've seen so far, Astrid is towards if not on the top of the list of my favorites. It seems to me that the department likes to put the worst professors in the lower-division classes. When I first took the class with Astrid I expected her to be yet another rotten apple, but I was very surprised by the end of the quarter. Compared to the other two professors, who I won't name, she seems to be the one that 1.) knows what she's talking about, 2.) enjoys her profession, and 3.) respects the students. The other two quite often lack one or more of them, and it became obvious in many occasions. As far as the class goes, its pretty much your standard studio lab, although the class is dedicated to abstract ideas. If you're LA major, then you have to take it, so theres no point in telling you about it. You'll have to do it anyway. I'm very disgruntled though by the second project. I felt that it was poorly planned by the three professors.

I like astrid, and gave her a fairly good review, just do not expect to learn anything that you probably did not already know. I feel like she is very intelligent, but treats students like it\'s 5th grade. The amount of effort put into presentations etc for her class is minimal because everybody knows they will get an A for showing up. I love Astrid and I do agree with other people, she is the mommy of the major. I think that is the problem. She grades too easily and I want to learn as much as possible and I think other professors are better because they expect more out of us. She gets too close to the students and I think that is why she grades so easily. She is better for first and second year because she is comforting when Omar is crazy and sometimes discouraging. If you want to learn a lot you should take Joe Ragsdale or maybe someone like Cesar, but if you are a student that just wants an easy lab then take Astrid.
