Leu teaches the lab section of the class and Beard teaches the lecture. Both are Caltrans guys with a lot of interesting insight and stories to share. The lab is pretty straightforward- follow instructions more or less step by step, and you learn how to create horizontal alignments, vertical alignments, cross sections, bridges, and corridors/earthwork/slope staking in Civil 3D. The lab is a pretty easy A if you follow instructions, but prior CAD experience never hurts. Exams are pretty straightforward and ask you to do the same types of tasks and commands as the labs required. Since it is open note, open book (i.e. lab instructions are OK to use), this lab isn't too hard. Leu is a great guy, highly recommended!

Billy does his best with the material presented. Lecture is pretty interesting- he brings a lot of guest speakers related to roadway design and they're all pretty interesting. In the lab, it's a different story. CAiCE is no means easy to learn, but he expects you to listen and write down his instructions simultaneously, instead of him writing the instructions down and saving all of us a lot of time. If you even look down to write for a second, you'll be lost instantly. He goes really fast through the program, so be prepared to wonder what the hell to do when he stops talking.
