Sycophant. Plain and simple, you are a FUCKING ASS kissing, horrible, leader who does little more than suck up to Pres. Baker. WHy were you not considered even an acceptable choice to the search committee while you were "interim" dean? Then, a year later after the "new" search committee was formed why were you accepted as a top candidate? Bullshit inside politics--you suck Halinsky and I hope you meet your demise soon! You have no profesional publications, your research record is a joke, yet you make decisions about others' worthiness. SHame on you, you should resign. You have no ability to lead by example--you are overpaid, underqualified, and underperform in your capacity as dean. Leave, please.

Whoever wrote the comment previous to mine needs to grow up. People, no matter how you dislike, deserve respect and Dr. Halsiky obviously deserves that. If you want to learn take Halisky, if you want to be challenged take her and if you also want the opportunity to spend time appreciating literature for literature's sake take Halisky. Don't think you can walk through her class, expect a lot of reading and to actually have to think about what you read. She is a really tough grader on her essays but only to make you a better writer and she is more than happy to work with you to get better. There is nothing better than having a teacher who loves what she does as well as the material she is teaching. No matter what the subject if you get the opportunity, take Halisky!!!!

Halisky can take even the most difficult, frustrating philosophical concepts and explain them CLEARLY and BRIEFLY. She really understands HOW to teach and HOW people learn, which made her class amazing. There is a lot of reading assigned (an unhealthy amount) but she is such a great teacher that even on minimal sleep you'll still enjoy the class. I haven't gotten my grade back yet, but if it's a "B" it's my fault not hers. She is very willing to help her students!

Dr. Halisky is a really nice woman and a great professor. She assigns a lot of reading per night, but her semi-daily quizzes are fair and straight forward. Her papers are easy, but her tests are difficult (but definitely doable). Not like we really get a choice for our Core professors, but she's definitely a good one to have.

I took Ms. Halisky for a class on Milton. This was one of the most challenging classes I ever experienced. I did not get the best grades, most likely because I had too many things to think about already, however I remember earning an A on one paper and felt like I had accomplished a Herculean task. I would take her again.

I've taken two 400 level classes from Dr. Halisky. She challenges her students. Her classes are very structured. She teaches with enthusiasm that is picked up by her students (well, most of them anyway). She is very clear in her expectations of her students. She is a fantastic professor.

Dr. Halisky is one of the most demanding, intimidating, amazing teachers at Cal Poly. She demands nothing but your best, but when she gets it, she has no qualms about grading you fairly. I got a D in her class for one reason alone, I deserved it. Take her, you'll remember whatever she teaches you well enough to teach other students. If you're looking for an easy A, don't go here, but if you're looking to improve your education, Halisky has no equal.

Dr. Halisky is fair and her grading expectations are clear. She inspired me to learn and think and is an all around nice person. The class was difficult and her standards high. The reading load was fairly large, and with such a small class size, I never wanted to be unprepared. Be ready to speak. She wants to hear your opinions. Tests were fair. We knew the general questions in plenty of time. No surprises. Take her class if you want to learn and are willing to be challenged.

Dr. Halisky is awesome. I took her Milton course and it was the best class i have ever taken at cal poly. The workload didn't seem that big because she was so helpfull and made the assignments clear. You should definitelly try to get into any of her classes.

Dr. Halisky is a difficult professor, but very fair. You MUST attend class and do all work she requires. We did a lot of reading, but not too bad. I was taking one other class at Poly and was also working over forty hours a week, and was able to keep up. You can't get behind, even a little bit though. Her class is very fast paced and I would imagine that it would be impossible to get caught up once you've fallen behind. She is extremely helpful. I had to work during her office hour, so she arranged special times for the two of us to meet in order to discuss the paper. She can be a tough grader, but she also does not throw anything in her exams or papers that is unexpected. She made learning a complete delight and I still remember most of the material we discussed. I'd love to take her again.

Dr. Halisky is a good professor, regardless of what other students have said of her. She allows thought formation and discussion, doesn't want students to try to regurgitate the material at her, and emphasizes critical thinking in her classes. She is the Dean of the CLA, so getting to her can be difficult, but she only teaches once a school year and makes special arrangements to be more available for her students. She's a nice lady, if not a little standoffish, but overall, I'd recommend her class to anyone who really enjoys to read and to learn.

Halisky seems scary and tough, but as long as you mostly meet her expectations and pay attention in class, you will be rewarded. Great teacher. And remember to talk in class so you can get participation points!
