Williamson is a cool guy. He does pretty well with the class, considering it's just a big lecture, with no possibility of interaction with the students. The main problem with the class when I took it was that the tests were entirely Scantron, and straight from the book. That sounds like it would make the class easy, and it does. The problem is that it makes it so there's no advantage to going to class. If you read the chapters, and do the sample multiple choice questions in the review guide, you're set.

Mr. Williamson is a great professor. He kept me interested in a topic that I really didn't like in the past. EMPHASIZES his notes and has a personality. The class consists of three midterms and no written assignments. To get a decent grade in his class you have to do one of two things: 1. Go to class and study his notes or 2. Study his notes and use the supplementary guide in the library. His tests include about 70% multiple choice, and 30% essay and other problems. All the notes are posted online. All in all, he is a professor that conveys his material clearly and for a GE course it's not that bad

Williamson is a great professor, but that kind of gets lost under the fact that the class is over 200 students large. Hes very straight forward, and tries to help as many students as possible . . . he only has three midterms, no final, and that is all he grades you on. If you miss one, don't worry though, he'll let you make it up

Dr. Williamson is an awesome guy who you will always see at the rec center around 7:00-8:00AM. He does a great job teaching such a huge class. The lectures can be boring, but it's econ - what do you expect. He tries to involve the class by talking about the current events book which is assigned for the class. This book is pretty cool b/c he spends 10-15 minutes on it (i.e. less time for lecture), it's way more interesting than regular lecture. His tests are multiple choice, with number problems and an essay which is based on one of the current events talked about in class. He also posts a study guide (in addition to the one from the book) on the web. This study guide is GOLD. you will find that many of the test questions come from this guide. In all, Williamson is a very, very nice guy who is always willing to help his students.

Dr. Willimason is a good guy and his heart is in the right place. Although, after attending all the lectures and studying my tail off I still got C's on all the exams. I felt somewhat unprepared and did not recognize some of the concepts as they were presented on the exams. Althogh, I know many people who never went to class, never read the book, and got the same grade as I did. He's a good guy, though. Go to his office hours.

He was an average professor, who seemed to know a lot about the subject. His exams were difficult and hard to study for. He does post sample study questions on his blackboard website, which were helpful. Read the book, use the study guide, and do well on the first three exams. He has an optional final, which definately helps if you completely bomb a test, but if you choose to take the final it replaces your lowest test score, even if its a lower grade.

This guy is pretty laid back and cool, he makes it as easy as possible for the students, and I appreciated that a lot! You don't even have to take the midterms til the final, or you can take them during the quarter, its pretty much up to you. I found that he was really helpful if you went to his office hours to explain things. However, he confused me a lot during lecture. The book did a much better job at explaining economics for me than he did, which made it hard to go to class most of the time. The good thing is, if you skip a class, you don't end up missing too much.

this guy is a little boring, ok , really boring! and i have found a strinking resemblence to John Lithgow, which i found quite distracting the first few days of class. however, aside from that, he makes things easy and is cool. the class itself is hard, and he doesnt teach it that great, so just read the book and show up for the midterms and tests! or go, and dont read the book, its kinda up to you. i guess if you want to strive for perfection, then read the book and go to class, but why strive for perfection, strive for excellence in ge and perfection in your major!

I will say that he is a nice guy, but he has no idea how to teach. His class is totally conceptual, and he has a really hard time bringing himself down the level of students that have had little or no econ experience in their lives. His tests are very hard to study for, and even if you use the study guide and review questions he assigns there is no guarantee that you will be even remotely prepared for his tests. I went to his office hours almost once a week and asked how i could do better in his class. We had a full discussion about econ principles and theories and he said, "well it looks as though you are really doing the work and trying to make a good attempt at it. keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine." However, i still got the first D of my life in the class. Williamson makes it hard for students to do well in his class and he knows it. He is a nice guy, but why take a GE class and make it miserable for students? It is a load of crap. Professors are supposed to be here to help us learn, not stump us out of our frigging minds, right?

Williamson is a tricky prof. His tests are basically applying the concepts from the lectures. Well, during the lectures, he doesn't really tell you how to apply the concepts. He expects you to read the book, so don't put it off or else you'll have a lot to read the night before a midterm. He curves every midterm and the final grades, so that's a plus. Do the online reviews because he does have a handful of questions that are verbadum from his "test bank".

Don't listen to the other crybabies. Let's face it, Economics is NOT the most exciting subject matter in the world. Dr. Williamson was a cool guy, and tried his hardest every day to show us how Econ 201 related to our lives. I learned a lot in this class, I felt it was interesting. The midterms and final were multiple choice and the final was not cumulative. The class requires a sizeable amount of reading. Overall a good professor and I would look for his name first for another class.

If you have ever taken ECON before this class should be know problem. All you have to do is go over EVERYTHING he puts online and read chapters in that you dont understand. Going to class was pointless so i just stoped going. The test are curved so there is no problem pulling a C in this class. Overall its very easy to get a C in this class if you want something higher you really need to work your ass off.

Dr. Williamson is an awesome teacher. Its too bad that most of the people who wrote evaluations simply cannot understand economics or just didn't take the time to study. Just because you have a hard time with the material doesn't mean you should take it out on the prof. He is an awesome teacher who explains boring stuff in an interesting way. His tests are a little tricky, but if you study, you'll understand what he's looking for.

I honestly cannot believe I pulled a B in this class- I went into the final with a low C. This class was the biggest headache of my life- if there is anything else you can take, do it! It might just be that the material was sooo boring, but I have a feeling the teacher had something to do with it. He would talk about the most random stuff and somehow find a tiny way to relate it to econ. there are 3 tests- two midterms and then the final period is used for the third midterm- not cummulative. I went to class everyday and didnt really read for the first test- and failed. went to class half the time and read a little for the second test and got a B-, and went to class once every two weeks and read a lot for the third test and got at least a B.

This subject is just plain boring to me. Williamson is a good teacher with some respects. Undoubtably his knowledge for economics is great, but his ability to stimulate his students in this subject was poor. I enjoyed some of his lectures, but after the first test I found it pointless to show up to class. All of his lectures are covered in the book. I scored better by just reading the book and doing the practice tests assigned. The only problem with studying from the book is that it is long, verbose, and makes you want to sleep after reading the first page. best advice is to read a chapter a week so you don't get stuck reading all 5 chapters before the test.

I got a B because I was lazy, plain and simple, all you need to do is read the book and make sure you know how to do the problems he gives before each midterm out of the study guide. That said, don't bother to go to lecture because all you'll end up doing is falling asleep. Dan Willamson is probably the most boring prof i've had but he knows what he is talking about. The book of power point slides he says to buy is basically pointless.

Dont know how good the professor is, went to class once. Honestly buy his book of slides, the book and the study guide for the book ($50 but worth it) look over his slides, read the book, take HIS practice tests and the study guide test and the class is a breeze. Honestly this class amounted to only a week of studying for all tests. On another point the class could easily be passed by cheating, find someone smart and sit next to them.(how my buddy passed.

While it doesn't get a whole lot more boring than a general economics class, Dr. Williamson is still an excellent teacher. He knows the material and his lectures so well that his lectures flow amazingly well. Aside from all that his lecture notes and practice problems make owning the book pointless, which in a way is a good thing because that makes this class incredibly easy. I got an A with practically zero effort.

Dan is a ok teacher. I don't like about his class is that his lectures are too long and boring. Imagine sit in a room for 2 hours for 2 days a week. To some people, it should be ok but to others, it might be bad man. I couldn't stand his way of talking because it's hard to understand and he doesn't make jokes to release the boring of the class. Whenever u go to class, u have to take 5-6 pages of notes. The worst thing from his class is that you only have 1 final, homeworks and 1 midterm. It is bad because all the weight is on the final 50% which isn't good at all. I hope he can change his style of teaching and give 2 midterms or even 3 and a light weighted final. I would like that style better.

First off, Williamson is a nice guy who will try to help you if you ask him. I enjoyed speaking with him, but his teaching style is difficult to follow. The class had a tough time trying to understand the way he presents the material. He only gives one midterm worth 30%, which you can drop, but then have an 80% final. The midterm was very difficult and about 25 people didnt drop it. The final....well it was 19 pages of difficult multiple choice. If you work your butt off, youll be ok, but dont overestimate yourself, this is a tough class.

I had a hard time learning things from him. I'm not sure if it's the way he lectures (they are hard to understand and relate to) or just the way I learn. There were a lot of other people who complained about his lecturing though. I don't recommend a 2 hour class twice a week. I fell asleep almost every time and I really tried hard to stay awake! If you take him plan on reading the book a lot and the study guide is helpful. There were about 15 homeworks and 2 tests. I though it was hard with only the 2 tests. The tests are multiple choice, short answer and essay. Pretty difficult! He is a realy really nice guy though and willing to help with anything and very understanding of college life.

He is a nice guy, but TERRIBLE LECTURES. He explains everything in the most confusing way possible and I never understood very much. The book make things a little more clear. The one midterm and one final were both quite hard, and required a lot of studying. Even with a lot of studying our class average was always in the 60's. His level of understanding of econ is so high that he has a hard time coming down to our level to explain things. Even with not doing well on the tests and final, but okay on the homeworks, I still got a C with the curve. Probably better off taking a different professor...

First off, economics is not easy. If you're lucky enough to have Professor Williamson, the subject won't seem as difficult. The first fifteen minutes of class is used to discuss an economic issue. The topics come from really short readings from a required textbook, "The Economics of Public Issues." The rest of the class is full on lecture, but he writes all the important information on the board, and usually gives good examples. Don't skip this class because a few things he presents are not in the textbook. Williamson uses the BlackBoard system to post homework, which is helpful and the work is not very time consuming. He is always willing to help, so definitely use his office hours. Make sure you understand the homework, because similar problems are on the one midterm and the final. He also posts sample mutiple choice problems, and gives you the answers from the midterm (after you take it), to help you study for the final. Just remember, if you get hung up on something in this class, use his office hours. -CpX

This guy is great. A little bit dry, but always explains things clearly. He uses a lot of math in a class that has no math prereq, but by simply reading the text you can figure out just about anything. He is also a very nice man. He was always willing to clear up any confusion I had with the assignments, even though I would nearly always pass out cold in every class. The midterms were pretty easy if you knew the text, and the problems on the were straight out of the homework.

I actually like Mr. WIlliamson as a person, but as a teacher he was pretty tough. I think the main problem was that he lectures on the board and a lot of the time it was hard to read his writing. Also he makes a lot of concepts much more difficult than they really are. One thing that I will give him a lot of credit for is the textbook he has to supplement the class. Basically, half the time I didn't go to his class I just read the book. By the end of the quarter I read the whole book. He has two midterms and the final (worth 50% of the grade). Honestly, this class is a lot harder than a beginning Econ class should be. I took micro in high school and we went over the same topics. I was able to grasp the concepts easily, but with this guy its a different story. He's a very knowledgable guy, but sometime he tends to get too wrapped up in what's going on in his head that he can't explain in a way that students would be able to understand. He also adds all of equations that aren't in the book, so using the book as an alternative to his lectures isn't the best idea. Considering the class is a GE, wait and take a different teacher. Williamson is a cool guy. He's extremely smart but he sometimes has problems explaining the material. Quantitative methods in Econ(which most people don't know what it is) is basically an advanced Calculus class where you use matrices to solve optimization problems. Williamson rarely ever uses examples and he goes through material really fast. If you do your homework(even though sometimes you will not understand it) and go to his office hours you will understand things much better. There are only a few tough concepts. The midterm and final are worth most of your grade. The average grade on the midterm was an 80 and the average on the final was a 65. The last few weeks of class are the most confusing but he does grade on a curve. If anything do not fall behind!

Dr. Williamson is a very helpful and nice professor. He is always willing to spend time with the students to help them understand the material. However, his lectures can often be confusing and long. There is intense note taking involved so be prepared for 5 to 6 pages of notes per lecture. He also covers material very quickly. Note that he was a math undergrad and sometimes expects that the students are proficient in math as well.

Williamson is a cool guy and if you have him for an upper division class you will enjoy him. I had him for 310, and Intermediate Micro which makes two quarters with him. The classes are fairly easy and he tells you exactly what you need to know. He grades on a curve and his tests are very fair. I think people give him bad ratings because they take beginning Micro and bitch about how hard it is. Once you learn the basic stuff its all pretty easy. Williamson always tells jokes to our class and even offers us good advice sometimes. Basically just study your homework assignments and you will be assured a good grade.

This guy sucks, there is simply no way to word around it. Sure, he might be great for ECON 221 - but how difficult can it be to prepare and demonstrate the material of supply and demand in it's most basic form. Do not take him for anything that is upper division, I often wonder how this douche bag made it through college. I'm not concerned and irritated with my own preformance in the class, I'm an ECON major and am thankful that I had a fairly good understanding on what the material was meant to cover.., unfortunately my classmates weren't quite so lucky. In the entire course, we know of a possible 3 A's, 3 B's, about a dozen C's... and the rest you can imagine in a class that had about 27-30 students enrolled in it. If you chose not to take my advice and take a professor like Marlow or Shiers, the best of luck and hopefully your experience will be more sucessful and enjoyful than mine.

I liked the guy. You know the guy has a twisted mind when he argues that you dont really NEED to live. He used this to illustrate a point. But, that kind of cynical sense of humor kept the class enjoyable. A solid background in algebra and calculus makes many of the concepts easier to grasp. If you're not into the whole math thing, he didn't try to make this a math class. He often gave us the needed formulas that claculus could provide during tests. He realized that most of the students didn't love math and made sure to test all of us on Economics - not whether we can do partial derivatives. The Final was fair. Nothing too crazy or unexpected. Put in your effort, and you'll do fine. He means well, and he's real easy to talk to. The optional midterm exam was an interesting idea. Treat it like a real test. If nothing else, you'll learn how to take his tests. If you're a student who likes to bitch and moan about classes being so hard, then you may not want to take this professor...but welcome to college. If you are willing to put in a real effort, you'll probably learn a few things in his class...so take his class.

D-Will is a good prof who teaches a shitty class. Managerial econ sucks, and a lot of people bag on him because the class sucks in general. his class is very loosely structured, so if you're one of those smart guys who can teach themselves you will never have to go to class. he doesn't take roll/count it towards your grade and there are only 2 assignments the whole term. a mid and a final and the mid is optiona. for the record, it's best if everybody takes the midterm and does shitty cuz then the curve is dropped and he drops the mid anyways if your final grade is higher. D-Wills greatest weakness is that he uses too much calculus to explain things in a class where calculus is not required. however, when he uses real world examples, they are very helpful and very memorable. lastly, he is fucking hilarious... in a cynical/wry sense and would be a great beer pong partner... though only an average prof. he's a good guy who teaches a shitty class. if you go to all the classes, read all the material, CRAM like a mofo, you should be able to get a B. that's what i did and i had never taken an econ class before.
