Honestly the class is a colossal waste of time. It makes me question whether being a materials engineer is worth it as I learned nothing in this class. Nothing. Instead we talk about design principles in vague terms and how we should listen to all ideas etc. but whenever you say something she disagrees with she just ignores by questioning your logic and whether you were using her "open mindedness" which is just the way she thinks. We start some stupid service learning project which consumes an entire year (in which nothing is accomplished) and half the time its not worth going to class. On the bright side its an easy A.

Enthusiastic to teach the material but cant figure out how to do so. We spent every class doing the same thing and rarely ever making progress on our project while she was around. You do almost nothing in this class. Most people just come 15 minutes late and fall asleep or leave to get breakfast. You learn very, very little and the fact that Nina Truch isn\'t co-teaching like in MATE 110 to make it bearable makes 120 that much worse. She has no idea what she wants and will make you rewrite a paper or letter many times. For my group\'s letter of intent it was 5, and we eventually just sent it to our client and bypassed this crazy lady. You learn nothing about materials in this class and everything is about socialization and interacting with people. This class is super easy though. As long as you do the project you will get an A. Longest 3 hrs of my life on a Wednesday morning.

Because this class is an introductory-level class, we barely learned anything at all about Materials Engineering. However, the class split into groups and worked independently on various projects throughout the quarter. This gave us all opportunities to work in teams and collaborate with each other, which is fundamental for engineers. Overall, Linda is a wonderful professor and this class put little to no stress on students.

Friggin scary smart, she will teach you cool stuff but she likes calculations, you may get a C, but you will be smarter.

Kind of an airhead. Some things she knows very well, some things she doesn't know diddly about. There is a lot of complaining about other instructors playing favorites, well, Vanasupa has played that game also.

Dr V is definitely one of my favorite professors at poly. She is super smart and always willing to help. She learns everyone's name by the first day and she is an energetic lecturer, sympathetic to the way students feel at times. She is very approachable and will talk to you about anything, even if it is unrelated to school. I definitely recommend her for any class.

kinda weird class. she's got a PhD, and has the potential to wreck us on exams. but instead, she gives us super easy exams that are all online?? easy A. she is there in lecture if you want to learn. if not, skip class and read the book. she believes that everyone has a 'choice' hippy lady

Awesome lady! This class was always fun to come to because you get to learn something new every week. The labs are very interesting. Honestly, you should not have an excuse to get anything less than an A in this class. Basically to get an A, you have to complete the weekly labs with an honest effort, complete the lab quizzes with an honest effort, and by the end of the quarter, discuss with her something that you learned about materials outside of class. Thats it! Extremely easy class and very nice professor!

Dr. V is a very enthousiastc teacher, and she loves the politics and society behind engineering. However, she tends to grade very hard on assignments that don't involve a single correct solution, especially if they are group assignments. Almost every assignment in MatE 232 was like this. Also, I want to warn everyone thinking about taking any class from her that you should go above and beyond in any group assignments she gives you. If she thinks or feels that you aren't putting in as much effort as the other group members, your grade will get raked across the coals. True, I didn't put in as much effort as I could have, but Dr. V said, and I quote from one of her all-class emails, the lowest grade was "obtained through missing several group assignments," along with low quiz scores. I didn't miss a single group assignment, unless a group meeting outside of class counts, in which case I missed two out of God know how many, and I only go low scores on two quizzes. I'm glad that the department is getting rid of MatE 232, especially since it has almost nothing to do with materials engineering. One final warning: I took a debate class, and that teacher did not grade nearly as hard on debates an Dr. V did on the debate in MatE 232. Still, I think Dr. V is a very learned person, and once you get used to her ways (which include showing liberal enviornmentalist propaganda to the class), you will learn a lot.

V is wack. She is super smart. Like ridiculously smart. That said, she also doesnt have the common sense or life skills to put her clothes on in the morning. She constantly treats her students like they are borderline retarded and she hardly ever comes to class prepared. She is also an extreme environmentalist, which wouldnt bother me if I hadnt heard the same brainwashing lectures from her everytime she doesnt have anything else to say in class. I swear, she has these canned speaches about how were running out of oil and were all going to die. Great. She is only a teacher because she would never survive real life outside academia. She is also a calculating power hungry control freak. It takes a few years to catch onto this, though. She runs the department with an iron fist by having dirt on every other teaching and keeping them owing her favors. (London owes her his job, so he just suckles at the power teat, doing her whim everywhere) Unfortunately, she is very good at presenting the facade of being a nice, slightly ditsy lady who just wants you to lean. Learn learn learn. Oh also, this class blows. So do many of these experimental new upper division courses. think of peeling back your fingernails one by one. It's like that. I just spent my spring quarter of Junior year designing museum displays that got graded like they were going in the Louvre. I want to learn so i can go make money, not partake in these joke classes. Then again...she does grade pretty easy on tests, so pick your poison I guess.

She deserves some recognition for her amazing teaching method. She truly TEACHES you something. If you want to truly feel like you understand the topic you are studying, take a class with Dr. V! No stupid memorization, very conceptual

Dr. Vanasupa is one of the finest teachers in this university. She is extremely smart, very helpful, funny, and organized. She expects you to learn and know the material, yet doesn't overload you with a bunch a useless material. A real joy to learn from.

Dr. V is an awesome teacher. She is extremely smart and can help you learn a lot. That being said, if you have to seek out that help on your own (which is often difficult). Unfortunately, If you are trying to just get by without learning anything, that can be done too. Sometimes it takes some effort to understand her explanations, but she will be more than happy to help you no matter how long it takes. Her teaching style is not for everybody and she will expect you to be self motivated and get work done without her holding your hand. But, she will raise most people's spirits with her incredibly positive perspective on life in general as well as the subject she is presenting.
