Clear informative lectures. A nice and friendly fella. The only problem with his lectures is that it gets boring sometime. I would still recommend this teacher for your programming class. I'll take his Software engineering class for sure

Pedersen's a good teacher all around. He grades fairly and consistently. His programs pretty much spell out exactly what you'll need for the program; that's good if you don't like ambiguity, but bad if you want a lot of leeway. I got him during winter quarter '99, which was his second quarter at CalPoly (new prof). He's a little rough around the edges, but in a year or two he'll be a very good professor. One warning though: if you ask him a question he doesn't know the answer to, he'll lick his lips, stare at the chalkboard and mumble for a minute or two, then loudly say, "Why don't you go check on that?"

I enjoyed the class. Pederson was well prepared and seems to know something about programming and C++. He also is a little bit goofy at times and can get going on tangents that most people probably don't follow. He also makes cultural allusions that most students don't grasp (did anyone realize that Bill T. Jones - a test case in one program - is a contemporary american choreographer?) He's probably more interesting than he lets on.

His teaching style is very confusing--he insists on teaching with the same cryptic style as the book. He wavers a lot when a student asks him a question, so you'll never really get a definite response from him. Watch out if he tells you that something is "recommended", it means that it is required. He didn't provide a clear sylabus. Make sure you've read the text before he lectures on a topic, otherwise you'll be really confused.
