The book that is used for 130 is quite confusing, all it does is give examples and does not help with the homework problems. She has a good way of teaching she does a power point everyday but the words and ways she explains it is confusing. she does use a lot of examples but that is all the book is so there is no guidance. Her first midterm is easy but the 2nd gets harder. If you are not a stat person you must apply yourself. Homework everyday too!

Peck had homework almost every day, so for those who mind a workload -- stay away. I will say that she didn't make it unbearably long. She had a powerpoint presentation every day, which is great if you didn't understand something in the homework, but terribly boring if you did. Make friends with the people next to you. You'll work with them a lot. The book she uses is really bad, but she does the best she can with it.

Professor Peck is an extremely nice and understandable lady. Her lectures are extremely boring, but if you listen and take notes, she gives the material that will be on the the mid-terms and final. There is homework every night. I liked her mainly because she was understanding of any class conflicts that an individual might have. Her first mid-term is really easy and the second and final are a little harder.

The first thing I should say about this professor is avoid her at all costs. She is incredibly boring and makes the material much harder than it needs to be. The text book is very clear and makes everything easy, but Ms. Peck is really confusing when she tries to explain the reading. I got a B because I never went to class. If I had gone to class every day I would have probabaly been able to pull of an A. Avoid taking this class because it is incredibly boring and the professor hates when you do not show up.

Oh my god this class was incredibly boring. I did well in the beginning of the class, but then my interest soon faded because the way she presents statistics is dreadful. The book explains itself and she goes off on her ramble for a solid hour and a half. Everything in this class is conducive to sleep: her boring ramblings; the hot room; the boringness of statistics 130; and the time of the class (I had it 3-5 tuesday / thursday). If you keep up on things and do all homework, labs, and presentations you will do great. Don't listen to her, listen to the book. Even if you miss a class she posts all lecture notes on blackboard - just don't miss lab or review days. She allows 1 page of notes for both midterms, and then 2 pages for the final. First midterm is subjective, so you can argue your stance on each question, and is fairly easy. The second midterm and final are tougher and require some studying. Make sure to do both presentations, you basically get full credit for them. The most important decision in this class is whom you sit by. You will carry many a conversation with them throughout the quarter and even get to watch them sleep. A majority of the class is either bored, confused, asleep or all three. Feel free to sleep, even right in front of her, she doesn't say anything about it. I remember one day about half the class was asleep and then she said something. Other than that, no worries, take this class, it's easy, just follow the book. Don't let her ramblings make you underestimate the class at the end. Stick with it and treat it as a real class, and you'll do great!

This is by far the most boring class I've ever taken. Professor Peck is really nice and will work with you if you have to miss a class or a mid-term, but her lectures are complete sleepers. If you stay up on the homework, you will do fine. I thought the book was pretty clear; it's true that you can completely space out during class and just read the chapters later and still have a good grasp of what's going on. Her lectures consist of vague outlines of the chapters and a ton of examples, so if you like that then maybe you will like the class. Don't miss labs and do the first few presentations because they are easy and you have to do two anyways. The later ones are way harder to find so just do the first few.

Roxy's a pretty cool lady. She's super nice and will help you out in any way possible. For our second midterm our whole class did pretty bad, so she let us re-do it as a take-home exam....totally awesome, cuz I was one of those people who completely bombed it. She does give quite a bit of homework, but it might help you bring up your grade. And she gives online quizzes...just wait til someone else takes it and memorizes the right answers before you do it, or have your math-whiz roommate take it for you, as I did. Class is pretty boring, but overall pretty easy class.

Yes, this class is boring but considering that it's about as easy to get an A as any class I have ever taken, I would recommmend Peck. She is a nice lady that is more than happy to help you and if you come every lecture and do the HW and study even just a little bit, you will get an A no problem. There is kinda a lot of HW but it helps you on the tests. The HW can be challenging but the problems on the midterms and final are always much much easier and very fair.

This was a computer-based stat class, not all sections are computer-based. We used Minitab to calculate everything and could even use it on tests. Sometimes the class could be pretty boring, and sometimes I got lost trying to do stuff on Minitab. If you just asked for help though she would show you. And you work in groups all the time. It was SO MUCH easier than the regular Stat 217 class my roommate had to take. All I can say is take the computer one! And take it with a friend if you can.

Prof Peck is a really nice lady!! She is always willing to help you whenever you need it. But when she is lecturing she is sooooo boring! BEWARE! There is no point in goingto class, everyone pretty much just teaches themselves. But you should totally take her Stat217 class because she uses Minitab for everything, you want that!

Roxy Peck has definitely honed the skill of teaching. She knows exactly how to present the material clearly, and uses the text as support very well. She presents the information so clearly that often you don't even realize how easily you are learning. In fact, those that were bored in class were that way because she presented the information with such clarity that often students took for granted the fact that it was so easy to learn the material during her lectures. If you pay attention, put effort into the work (which isn't hard at all), then you'll definitely come out with an A.

Let me just say that Roxy Peck is a GREAT teacher. She is friendly and really receptive to problems or concerns you have. Very approachable. Her lectures were definitely a little dry at times, but this class is taught in a studio classroom so you can just sleep behind your computer screen if you're bored. The material is easy and you get to use MINITAB for EVERYTHING. You don't have to memorize formulas so it's wayyyy easier than the normal lecture classes for stats. I would highly reccommend this class to anyone if you're willing to put in a little effort and do homework. There are 2 midterms, a final, and a super easy group project. Go Roxy :)

Oh polyratings, how I wish we'd have been friends before the start of this quarter! Things may have turned out differently for the both of us. Had I known about you, then perhaps I would have had a little better insight to Dr.Peck. Don't get me wrong, she's a VERY nice lady. Which is why it pains me so greatly to evaluate her with an iron fist. Class was set in the computer lab and the lectures consisted of Dr.Peck reading the slides that were so conveniently posted up in front of us on a monitor. Silly students, we printed them off of blackboard, completely unaware that they would be read back to us verbatim. If the material on the monitor didn't make sense, and having it read aloud didn't make sense, there was no use looking in the textbook(written by Dr.Peck...talk about a kickback!) The text is, in all honesty, the worst book I've ever been required to purchase. It is not clearly written, forget any hope of being concise, and utterly disorganized. There will be terms used, and then defined a few pages later. Not to mention the fact that several terms are all used interchangably with different definitions, but they don't tell you that...it's a little surprise you stumble upon in a complete stupor of your own frustration. THIS is the "tool" you're supposed to use to teach yourself the material. There were 7 labs over the course of the quarter, too bad we had to take them home to do them because the lectures ALWAYS ran long, and often unfinished. She would leave 5-10 minutes to complete a lab. A lab based on material we were confused about, and didn't have a chance to teach ourselves yet. Not helpful in any way. There were also a few writing assignments: "meaningful paragraphs", use the terms correctly in a paragraph to prove you understand them. Well, we didn't, but the busy work was a good way to pad our grades. We had a class project that was useless and dull. The quarter before ours evaluated the weight of McDonald's french fries. We evaluated the change in readability of Time magazine over the past 20 years. We had to count sentences from articles on microfilm. AWFUL, and painfully boring. As was the 4 hours spent in class each week. The only bonus was using minitab and a page of notes on the exams. We didn't have to memorize formulas or how to apply them. Useful if you're trying to struggle through a required class. All in all, I would recommend Dr.Peck if you are a student who is proficient at teaching himself, has a vast understanding of statistics already, and doesn'tmind sitting through seemingly unending lectures.

Okay, I took STAT130 fall quarter and I got a B. So this class was pretty much review for me, so it would have been hard to not get an A. But overall, Peck is a really nice lady. She is willing to help you and she pays attention to you if you go to her office hours. She assigns a lot of homework, and she has a really bad grader. But her tests are super easy and you get to use minitab for everything, which is awesome bc minitab is purely plug and chug. If you need to take this class I highly recommend it. It is also a ton of partner work, so make sure you get a good partner.

Peck is a nice instructor, for one of the examples in class she brought in cookies, and for another one she brought in hersheys kisses! Class is pretty easy, can hide behind computers, lots of opportunities for points with little quizzes and assignments. A lot of homework, she had bad grader, so double check your hw score! 2 midterms were pretty easy, most get A's on first test, and second is a tad bit harder. the final kicked my butt, but that's probably because didn't study as much and the material got a little harder. But there's an easy group project, don't wait til last minute to get together, it's pretty easy to get an A on it. Overall, not too bad.
