I would highly unrecommend Megan O'Neill for CSC 110. If you are taking the class because you are new to computers, this is not the instructor of you. She skipped teaching anything about Word and assumed everyone knew how to use a computer like the back of their hand. Even for those with experience had difficulty keeping up with her in class and with Homework. She calls her class a "self-taught" class, and will not give any answers for help if you are doing homework or projects. Take another teacher.

Whenever I had questions she would respond "that is something good for you to figure out," which made the class very frustrating because when I took it I was totally computer illeterate. I found her to be very rude on top of everything else. I would defintely try and get another teacher.

Take any other teacher you can, especially if you are not very computer literate. She describes her course as "self-taught" but it's really not taught much at all. She is completely unhelpful and rude when asked for help. I learned nothing new from her. Classes consist of her moving rapidly through material with little explanation while you struggle to keep up on your own, very rarely succeeding. Homework is given often and completely self-taught. Tests are alright if you study the book but not much of the material is covered in class.

Overall, I feel that Professor O'Neill is not qualified to teach this course. She told us on the first day that she normally teaches Biology!! She only knows the basics of computers and was asked to teach this course. Throughout this quarter many people struggled with the assignments etc. She wasn't very willing to give extra time to help out and explain problems we were having. I do not recommend taking her for this class unless you know a lot about computers!

Overall I felt Mrs/Ms On'eill presented the subject material in a clear manner. There are two projects, 4 quizes, and a final. I felt she was a very fair grader and she works with everyone as much as she can. However, she does tend to move a little fast. All in all I felt she was a great teacher.

Oneill was a great teacher when it came to covering all the material in the course. Unfortuneatly, she didnt get into too much detail with all the programs, but did have us work a lot with our web pages. She is easy to talk to and open to any comments or suggestions you may have. I would take her for 110 course again.

I really liked Megan's personality at times and other times I felt like she wasn't helping me enough. This is a "self-directed" class. There are things she wants you to learn how to do, but purposely doesn't teach them in class. She won't even help you if you ask her. So, I spent a good deal of time on internet tutorials trying to teach myself what I felt should have been taught in class. She's known for posting homework assignments on her website instead of assigning them in class. She's really strict about not accepting late homework, so check the website often. A computer-loving friend is a definite plus when taking this course. I also found my classmates to be helpful at times; it was all of us struggling together against the professor. I enjoyed making my website and powerpoint prestentation.I did get a lot out of this class, but I felt I could have gotten more. She covered the basics of Office 2000 well, but I was interested in learning the little tricks and short cuts, too. If you have some computer experience you'll do fine.

i found o'neill's class extremely frustrating. meagan is NOT a teacher - she simply does not teach. asking a question for help more than often results in her telling you to ask someone else. she speeds through her material and if u miss information u can guarantee the same response. and the mocking tone of her voice simply does not help. she gives 4 quizzes and one final, which include material from the book. that would be fine except for the fact that the book material covers the stuff from class in a different way than she does. so since she does not go over anything for the quizzes you are on your own to pick and choose which material you think she might put on it. and after the quiz, is there any review of the correct answers (or any review at all for that matter?). NONE at all. her review for the final consitst of letting us see the correct answers fro our old quizzes, but alas no review or tips or anything. and arent professors required to have office hours? well she doesnt have any, and avoids admitting this fact. and the two "SELF-DIRECTED" projects should be given to CSC majors. creating your own web site with more "bells and whistles" than everyone else is just a tiny bit hard when you have no professor to help you even get started. i would NEVER recomend her to someone who is taking this course as an elective.

MEAGAN ONEILL TAUGHT HER CLASS IN A LIGHT HEARTED MANNER. I HAD NO DIFFICULTY KEEPING UP IN CSC110 EVEN WITH LITTLE COMPUTER EXPERIENCE. I WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE ALL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZZES, AND SELF-DIRECTED PROJECTS WITH NO PROBLEM. [PERHAPS IF YOU ARE NOT A SELF-DIRECTED STUDENT YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN BE IN COLLEGE!] NEVER ONCE DID I READ THE BOOK, I GUESS I LEARNED EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO KNOW FROM THE LECTURE AND SUCCEEDED BY PRACTICING THE TECHNIQUES I LEARNED IN CLASS. WHAT A NOVEL IDEA...PRACTICE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER FOR A BREAK FROM THE NORMAL DRY, SELF RIGHTOUS ATTITUDES OF OTHER PROFESSORS AT THIS SCHOOL AND MAYBE YOU WILL LEARN MORE THAN JUST COMPUTER SKILLS.

Oneil has little patients with her students when working with the all too frustrating topic of computers. This class should be easy for anyone good or bad teacher, and thus I don't think it matters much what teacher you get. Make sure you talk to her after class and 'be her friend' and you'll do fine. Also get creative with as much stuff as possible... don't just get the first online pic you come accross or wall paper or whatever, but find somthing cool...it'll be worth it in the end. And if you can do your web page for two of the projects, modifying it the second time is a lot easyer than doing a whole new project.

I had her my first quarter at Cal Poly and let me tell you she does not know how to teach! My first impression of her was...wow she's going to be cool! and...WAS I WRONG!! I knew most of the stuff before hand so i did fine, but she taught you like you knew what you were doing, and when you didnt know how to do something and you asked for help she told you to ask your neighbor. Which considering you neighbor usually knew nothing more than you did, didnt help. When she did help you, she made you feel stupid. I had her in an afternoon class, but i took a couple tests in her morning class and ironically she seemed to treat them a lot nicer. Maybe she's not an afternoon person...i dont know...but i would recommend you taking her unless you know a lot of the basics before hand..because if not she'll lose you, and you'll never find your way back! Good luck!

She clearly does not know the material herself. Many times in class the students were explaining to her how to do things. She does cover a lot of ground but she teaches straight out of the book. Her quizzes are beyond harder than what a basic level computer class should be. If you have a question she gives you the nastiest look and tells you to look it up on an on-line tutorial. Basically saying she doesn't know the answer. Every project we turn in must be to the highest standards and its very difficult to meet those standards when your a beginner and are given such a small deadline. Our web sites are expected to be perfect and her web site is a joke. I can not speak less highly of this woman.

Maybe Megan is a good biology teacher. But she should not be teaching computer science. It is obvious that she is unsure about much of the information, and her teaching method is very laissez-faire: hands off. One thing that I never want to hear out of any person's mouth is "why don't you use it as your objective". Megan uses this term to avoid any questions you may have about a program to which she does not know the answer. My computer-literate friends were a greater resource to me than the instructor. One personal pet peeve was the optional extra credit she provided: ten points possible if you burned her a CD compilation and a corresponding CD jacket OR fabricate a pretty invitation to her graduation party. Extra credit ought to pertain to the real subject matter discussed in class. We never discussed how to burn a CD in class. I urge you: Learn from my experience- find another teacher!

If anyone has to "build" a webpage for either csc 110 or 113 (is 113 even still offered?) you need to check out freetools.com. You can have that site build an instant poll for you or a special guestbook that would wow the pants off any 100 level computer science teacher. These two classes are jokes though. They are required as electives but they only waste your time if you even know how to turn on a computer.

There is not really any homework past the first few weeks except the 3 projects and the proposals that accompany them. If you ever have a question, she will generally refer you to a neighbor or ask if you looked it up yet. After that, if she knows the answer she will help you. She is very nice, but it is obvious that computers are not her main thing. If you do the assignments, and skim the book you should get away with a B or better. On word of advice, if she ever makes any comments on style or anything like that, you really should write it down for her quizzes (I think we had 4 quizzes and a final). Also, the readings do have the majority of the answers, but some of the questions are poorly written. Good luck.

It felt like she was dumbing everything down for us since it was a class for non majors, like she thought we were not smart enough to handle the entire concept. she made a lot of comments that people found offensive. the class was really easy though, i got an A and hardly studied. I do not feel like I learned a lot, which was frustrating, but if you are just looking for an easy class this is a good choice. however, if you actually want to learn about biology and it might apply to your major (which it does to mine) than its probably not the best choice.

This class was very challenging to study for based on the fact that her powerpoint did not contain very much information on the material that we were tested on. Her powerpoint slides to study off of were mostly just very complex diagrams that were not labeled. The online programming (Wiley) that she used was very unorganized and it was her first year using it so she had a difficult time working with it as well. The tests were very challenging and even with the supplemental workshop I was only able to pass one out of the two midterms and final. If you are going to take this class I would recommend going into office hours and asking her exactly what you need to know for the test as sometimes it would be very unclear while she was explaining things. She values attendance we had a short 5 question quiz just about every class.

There's really only one way to describe Megan O'Neill: INCOMPETENT TO AN INCREDIBLE DEGREE. She should just teach at Cuesta, AND STAY THERE, although to be honest, her teaching ability seems to be far below what I encountered in most of my community college classes. Just... just don't take this professor. You can probably get a decent grade just because her grading system is idiotic (50% of your grade is online quizzes, and of course, this means if you're unfortunate enough to miss one, your grade plummets) and 25% each for the midterm and final. To be honest, this shouldn't be a support course for engineers (or ANYONE for that matter). It's honestly painful to sit through this class, and this teacher is just horrible.

In summary, Megan O'Neill exemplifies idiocracy. It's incorrect to think of her as a clown, as that would imply she is actually entertaining. Her power point slides would only appeal to middle school students who giggle at the word "dookie," and are far from informative. By the end of one lecture, less than half the class remained. In addition, she makes announcements on her Cal Poly website -- and typically that's not the first thing I think to check when I turn on my computer. Basically, she uses Blackboard and her website out of pure laziness, in addition to borrowing test questions rather than taking time to thoughtfully make up her own. On the upside though, I did manage a few good naps during lecture.

I see lots of griping, and I just laugh. It's true, she's a pretty poor teacher. Her slides aren't really that amazing, and if you took Bio in high school, this shit is nothing new to you. She does have a few perks: she's energetic, occasionally funny, and pretty down to earth. For most people, this class is an awful borefest, but there's nothing you can do about it. If she gets to learn your name and recognize you, I'm pretty damn sure she boosts your grade. I heckled the shit out of her all quarter and cracked jokes at her expense, and she gave me an A. Note that I absolutely did not earn that A, because my quiz grades were not that good, I just sat near the front, and participated a little bit. The exams were kind of tricky, but it's bio. Easy shit, right? Well, sometimes there are answers that are 'more correct', and that's where I'd miss my points on tests, and many other people as well. There's not really much to say about BIO/ENGR 213 other than they suck. The subject material is shitty. No secret, but I think O'neill tries her best to make it slightly interesting. You're not gonna learn a whole lot from her, but you wouldn't learn a whole lot about bio from any professor teaching 213. So, take her if you have to, she's not THAT bad.

Yeah she is pretty awful. I'm sorry because she is a great person seems great to talk about football with, but that's not what I am rating her on. It all boils down to a lack of organization. She really needs to pick a standard text and be very clear on what she is going to test on.

I'll put the bottom line first: if you know your basic Bio pretty well, this will be a review class. If you're like me and haven't taken Bio since freshman year in high school, you'll have a difficult time learning what you need to know. Professor O'Neill tries the best she can to keep lectures moving and be funny, but for some reason, her style just doesn't work for me. She relies a lot on her slides' text, and I feel like she should try other approaches--like using diagrams or animations--in order to give her students the big picture. Some people gripe about how much she uses Blackboard, but if you check it as much as I do, it's not an issue. There is no homework besides the weekly quizzes and there are only two tests the whole year, so don't worry about the workload. Do your best. It's a somewhat boring class regardless of whom it's being taught by.

Megan was a good professor, overall was very fair. The tests where not to terrible, required some studying but as long as you attended the class each week that was the material that was on the exams, no surprises. She grades on 1/3 weekly online quizzes which you have 5 days to take. She does not always post them on the same day so do ensure to check every few days but there is guaranteed to be 1 per week. These where easy and should be a fairly easy A each time, look through the lecture slides and book and will find the answers. She also does give "pop" in class quizzes however they are as long as you are there in lecture you get 100% on them so ensure to attend lecture, easy points! The other 2/3 are split between midterm and final. Look over the lecture slides and as long as you can remember the main concepts fairly straight forward. Overall professor keeps the class interesting. She understands this is a non major class and teaches as such. I would recommend this professor.

This was actually a pretty easy class compared to other support classes you will have to take. There are weekly in class quizzes using the clicker, so you have to show up...but there is very little work outside class. You have to make one blackboard posting a week (takes 5 minutes) and take a weekly blackboard quiz on the new section, but these can be done by skimming the chapter and using the book as necessary. If you actually do all the reading (~25 pages a week), an A should be cake. If you got Bio in high school, you don\'t really even to do that...this class should be a review. Midterm and final are non-cumulative, questions are straight from the reading, often using quotes from the book.

Look, if you go to class, listen to her hints (as in, what will be on midterms and quizzes), and do the minimum amount of work, you\'ll get an A. I literally started LEARNING (not studying or reviewing, but learning) the material for the final the night before, and got an 84 on it, with an A in the class. As for class itself, she makes it as fun as possible. She can be kind of a sarcastic bitch, but in the end, she is a pretty cool person. I think she really teaches to the best of her ability, given the immense size of her classes. I don\'t think many people take this into account; she can have up to 300 students a quarter. Anyway, take her if you can, visit her in office hours, study a few hours a week and you\'ll be fine.

Megan O\'neill is definitely a poor teacher. Her methods of communicating the material is pathetic... every sentence is filled with at least 5 um, uh, duh\'s. Her online quizzes every week are absolutely ridiculous, every answer is correct and you need to choose the \"most correct answer.\" I don\'t understand how that is justifiable at all. I once asked her why I got a question wrong in an email and identified sections and figures where I believed the correct answer was and she simply replied, \"Sorry, your answer is not the most correct answer,\" like that was really helpful. Hell, I'm surprised she can dress herself in the morning, if you saw her on the street you would literally think she’s retarded. Every time she spoke I half expected to see drool cascading from her mouth as she stumbled over every unintelligible word. Well the only good thing I can say is she's a nice person when you talk to her. It seems that she tries to explain things, but her lack of knowledge shows through and you mostly become more confused about things after than before you asked her a question. I'm not sure how the Bio Dept. hired her and didn't realize she lacks the knowledge of the subject and skills to convey it to a class. She knows very little about Anatomy & Physiology or if she does know the subject then she absolutely can't convey the material in a clear coherent manner as you do in Dr. Schutz's ZOO 331 class. She cannot control the classroom and everyone talks in lecture because everyone has little to absolutely no respect for her. I almost feel bad because I don't think she realizes 1. She is a terrible teacher 2. She knows little about her supposed subject expertise 3. Nobody respects her. Overall, she is not fit for teaching at a college level nor is she the type of person that should be teaching at all. She is as bad as the ratings indicate. Avoid her at all costs, ye be warned. If you can't avoid her, accept your fucked.
