I took FSN 210(online) during this summer with this teacher and it was terrible. The lectures are pre-recorded videos, which in my opinion are bad edited, and she doesn't know how to teach. In some videos she starts coughing in the microphone, and I don't want to be mean but she could've edited that part of the video. Also, it is really hard to get good grades with her because of the way she evaluates the assignments. (take out points for the most little things)

I took this as an online class and it was the worst decision I've ever made. There was no support from the instructor; we were expected to learn all the material from the textbook, and basically memorize the entire textbook for both midterms and the final exam. No study guides or any support was given before the midterms. Very difficult exams. If you learn well with a textbook then this class may be for you, but I struggle to memorize from reading a textbook especially with no direction on what will be on exams. SO FRUSTRATING.

I wrote the review that said not to take this class online because LaGuire does not support students. I would like to retract that. This online class was not very hard, I anticipate getting an A. The midterms ended up being group tests and one of them you could have a notecard for, so I got As on both midterms. LaGuire does make you learn entirely from the textbook but doesn't expect you to learn the tiny details, only the big pictures and her motivation is to help you learn with each assignment and exam, rather than to make your grade drop. Keep in mind the midterms and finals were online, but honestly, this class was pretty easy although it was stressful at times.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS PERIOD IT'S SO AWFUL AND I HATED EVERY SECOND OF IT AND IT'S A MAJOR MAJOR WASTE OF TIME !!! Tiev LaGuire is a rude b**** and she is super unhelpful. She literally doesn't even test you on the textbook so don't bother reading that piece of useless s*** Your best bet is to just google all the answers since the class is online. TAKE THE IN PERSON CLASS IT'S MUCH BETTER.

Never take her online course. She posts four hours of recorded lectures weekly yet still manages to only test you on information that is very hard to find in the book which she never assigns you to read. Her midterm had zero of the material i studied for. Her instructions are terrible and very vague, she gives no directions on what she wants and expects you to figure it out yourself. Absolutely pointless information as well that you could research for 20 minutes and find out, classic liberal Cal Poly class.

Don't listen to all the bad ratings here, it almost scared me into not taking her online class. If you know how to READ what she is looking for in your work, its easy to get an A, I actually have 103% in the class going into the final. There is no pre-recorded lecture, just "read" the book and you'll be fine as all of her questions come from the assigned chapters. I had the PDF and just command+searched for the answers and they popped up, got 100% on almost all the quizzes and the first midterm. There are 2 other assignments that are easy as hell because she clearly outlines what she wants from you. She isn't a strict grader either, just don't have awful spelling and grammar, which obviously any other teacher would mark you down for too. Super easy online class, would highly recommend instead of having the actual class.

I took LaGuire's class online and it was ridiculously easy. It was mostly short quizzes and discussion posts with one major project at the end, one midterm, and a final. Everything was open book, so as long as you label everything, it will be an easy A. She offers a lot of extra credit and I don't think she actually reads the answers, so just put something vaguely relevant and you'll get full credit. You definitely do need the textbook.

Was weary of taking this class due to the bad ratings but quickly learned that the bad ratings are outliers. I ended up with almost a hundred percent in the class with very little effort. She gives online finals, midterms and quizzes so it is open book (this was a online class for me). She also gives a lot of extra credit which helps offset the possibility of missing an assignment. She is also a very easy grader as seen in the average grade for my class being a 92. Take this class for a A.

I really liked taking FSN 250 online because it was fairly easy and didn't take too much of my time. I also learn really well from reading which definitely helped, but honestly if you do not learn well from reading then DO NOT TAKE THIST CLASS. It is entirely self-taught, no recorded lectures or anything, just some assigned readings and a project. You have quizzes on every two chapters or so of the readings (which are honestly super easy since technically everything is open-book) and the project is ok, you have to research something about the food habits of a certain country's culture which is pretty interesting but the instructions for things are SUPER unclear and definitely should be revised since there is absolutely no clarity or definitiveness for what we are supposed to do, and then if you ask her a question her responses are just as vague.

I took this class fully online and I think the expectation a lot of people have with it being an online class is that it's going to be an easy class that'll take little time, but this is the equivalent of a 4 unit class and it does take a little time and effort. You can't do absolutely nothing and expect an A because that's not realistic and this is not high school. This class is made up of weekly quizzes, a cultural project, discussions forums, a midterm, a final, and a lot of extra credit. Reading for this class is ESSENTIAL because all the quizzes are based of it. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting the online version of this textbook so you can do searches for the answers because her questions are very specific. Make sure you take pictures of the quiz questions after the solutions are posted because 90% of the midterm is made up of those. The discussion forums are not hard and you have to watch videos which can be time consuming but they are very easy. The final project is also super easy and not difficult, just time consuming, so plan accordingly. And she gives so much extra credit, so just take the time and do it. I had 104% at the end of the quarter and I put in the same amount of work I would have if this class was in person. If you treat the class somewhat seriously, you'll do fine.

Completely do not understand any harsh ratings on this class. Easy class (online quizzes, midterm and final) with a few writing pieces (couple essays and a paragraph response to a prompt every week) with one final project that is somewhat time consuming but made up with the fact she is a easy grader. Laguire was helpful and prompt to me via email. The class also offers multiple extra credit opportunities. The class average was B+ so definitely take this class.

Easiest class ever and very interesting material. I have recommended the online class to everyone I know. Tip: get the online book

This was possibly the most interesting class I have taken at Poly. I learned so much about common misconceptions about food and dieting not only in America but also in other states. She is a very fair grader and an incredibly nice person. Everything is due around the same time every week making her class easy to plan for.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
