Decent teacher, attempts to make jokes during class. There are 5 assignments and 3 exams. Exams are not too difficult , don’t wait last till minute. His class tends to get boring due to the way he speaks. But overall I would say it’s an average class. It isn’t really exciting. No labs solely lectures.

Paul Redden is a nice guy who tries to make his class fun, but our ARCE 211 class didn't really respond to that so it often fell flat. That lack was partly due to the fact that Paul was not a very good teacher. Not terrible, has good intentions, but prone to making mistakes in class that you have to kind of know the material to catch. I didn't like how he often assigned us problems on stuff he hadn't covered yet, and had us turn in the homework for credit before he taught it to us. It would have been okay if he simply graded us for completion, but 50% of each homework's grade was accuracy too, so that wasn't too helpful when I didn't understand everything from the book. Only some of his lab assignments were helpful/useful, but they did reinforce the material so I guess there was purpose to them. I must say that he is better in office hours, so if you are having trouble, take advantage of that. Also, his quizzes are pretty easy and exams very doable, so they kind of make up for a few of his other shortcomings. Didn't enjoy his class and ended up having to learn a lot of the material on my own, but in the end an okay/slightly below average professor. Take another one for Structures if you can, but if you do have to take Redden it isn't the end of the world, you can survive his class.

CM 232 will Paul Redden is manageable. I recommend doing the homework and studying a bare minimum for the quizzes. The tests can be a bit tricky, but nothing out of the realm. Good luck!

Paul is a pretty good teacher if you listen in class but honestly I never listened and copied my homework but before every test I went through and did most of the problems. Part of this class is just rationally thinking through the questions which a lot of students get tripped up when they see wordy problems. Paul is not that great at recognizing that students are stuggling with something and if you ask him a question in class he just repeats what he said. He's really not as bad as a lot of people say, the tests are pretty fair and he says he doesn't curve but I'm pretty sure he did because i went into the final with a C+ and ended with a B. You just gotta sit down for like 2 hours before the test and learn it but once you do it just clicks.
