Jens Omli is an awesome dude and a great professor. He is very knowledgeable in what he teaches and seems like he's been everywhere. He's super interesting in his lectures but I advise avoiding his early morning classes because you may fall asleep at times, not his fault though. Anyway, half the class we had lectures via his YouTube account where he lectures on there, and his quizzes and final are super chill, mainly on his lectures on YouTube he has you watch. Definitely going to take him for other classes. P.S. GO UGANDA!!!

My favorite part about Dr. Omli's teaching was his ability to connect the material we were learning about to not only his life, but to his students as well. Omli has had A LOT of amazing experiences, opportunities, and accomplishments. His stories made the class more interesting and exciting. His lecture style wasn't my favorite--especially not for a 7am. His lectures either consisted of powerpoints crammed with notes that were impossible to write while listening to him (some that were uploaded to poly learn, and some that weren't), or just him talking. He cancelled at least 5 classes and posted the lectures in video form for us to watch online. There weren't many assignments. There were 2 short papers, maybe 4 or 5 online quizzes (that were taken in class), some video responses, and the final. The papers seemed to have been graded for completion, as were the video responses. The quizzes were hit and miss... some were straight forward and asked obvious questions, while others asked questions on the smallest details or facts. The final was also online and was open note.

Jens is one of the most laid back professors I have ever had. Not to mention, this class is a breeze!!! It primarily consists of him sharing personal experiences about being an athlete/coach/student and how his experiences relate to sport psychology and sociology. In terms of determining your grade, physically going to class was 100% pointless because EVERYTHING you are graded/tested on is completed online or outside of class. Your grade is made up of 4 online multiple choice quizzes (33.3% of your grade), online participation (posting to forums and watching specific YouTube videos--16.7% of your grade), 2 simple papers (16.7% of your grade), and an online final (taken on your own time--33.3% of your grade). ALL of the quiz and exam questions come directly from the assigned YouTube videos and online/book reading selections. The questions are either extremely obvious/straightforward (ex. "what is performance ethic") or extremely specific (ex. "what % of female athletes were in the Olympics in a given year?"). The papers are very easy and graded to completion. TIPS FOR GETTING A GOOD GRADE: take good notes while watching the videos and book readings--this is key to getting a good grade on the online final, attend class at least once a week because he passes around an attendance sheet, the online readings are NOT necessary to read --only skim, but the book readings ARE --make sure to take notes on the definitions!!!

He's an incredibly smart guy and loves what he does so his class is a really cool learning environment. The only thing that I didn't like was that we would have small quizzes every few weeks that were super hard and were about the smallest details in the readings. Aside from that, he's a great professor who even invited us to his house for waffle Wednesdays.

Omli is a great professor! I enjoyed his class. He lectures the full two hours and there aren't any breaks. He definitely loves what he does and cares for his students. He also is willing to help going out of his way. He changed his class a bit from the first year only having midterms rather than quizzes which I found were easy. In order to do well in this class, you MUST watch his videos on youtube and take notes on them because he asks VERY SPECIFIC questions on his exams. There isn't any homework in the class except writing simple papers that are easily graded. Overall, Omli is a good teacher and I'm glad he is part of the Kinesiology department.

Omli is by far one of, if not the best professor I've had at Cal poly. I say this because he is just a great teacher in general. A lot of 200 level kines classes feel like a joke and feel irrelevant and boring. However, Omli's class is not boring at all. We spent half of the first quarter learning about things that were on the book, from watching videos in class about them which was fun and made class very interesting. Very few professors know how to apply their material and relate it back to the students in the way that Omli does it. He's done a bunch of research , he's been to so many different countries, and he is very knowledgeable about Sports Psychology. Omli is and should be the only teacher to actually teach this class at Cal Poly.

Professor Omli is a really great, and all-around fun guy. He presented the material in a clear and entertaining manner. I would highly recommend taking this course with him as it is both interesting and educational.

Omli is one of my favorite professors if not my favorite. He is a great professor and I found the class really interesting and interactive! Just found out that it's the end of his contract and the Kinesiology department is not asking him to return for next year. Honestly I think that is really upsetting and a bad move because everyone that takes Omli loves him and he is great for the department.

Dr. Omli is what every Kinesiology instructor should strive to be like. He is able to gain the attention of the students and genuinely keep their attention. The Kinesiology department should be ashamed of themselves for letting this man go. I know of many students who I recommended to take him next year and now they won't have the opportunity. I also am very upset because I was looking forward to taking his classes next year. Cal Poly has taken that excitement away from me and now I no longer wish to take a Kinesiology class unless it is a requirement. Once again Cal Poly finds a way to screw over a GREAT professor when there are many other horrible professors they keep. Cal Poly should for once take into consideration what the students want. The new department chair of Kinesiology is making the biggest mistake by letting him go. I can not stress enough how great Dr. Omli is. He recently announced he was having a baby with his wife. I'm jealous that his little girl gets to have such a great father and human teaching her how to be a great person. I know he will make a great father and he is what I will strive for when I become an adult, husband and father. Thank you Dr. Omli for everything you've done, you deserve so much better than this place.

I normally never take the time to write these reviews, but Jens is such a good teacher I felt compelled to do so. His class is just fun and he's an awesome guy to talk to. Very knowledgable and the class was surprisingly enjoyable. Debates and quizzes weren't too bad and the final is just a movie project which was just flat out fun. Make sure to read for those quizzes though. If Poly gets rid of this guy I'll be pissed.

The class is laid back and a good way to get your UCSP requirement done. You will be up in front of the class debating and presenting A LOT. If you're shy or not good at putting together powerpoint slides, you might have an issue. If you want an A, read the book (lots of reading unfortuneatley). Exams will test you on book knowledge not presented in class at all. If you don't read the book, plan on taking a big grade hit.

He is extremely helpful and willing to work with students to see them succeed. It was really cool being able to create our own research projects. He sets up the class so that portions of the project are due throughout the quarter and you place it all together with the comments he gives you. The tests aren't bas as long as you pay attention in class.

During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...
