I took this class to get my lit requirement out of the way and I'm so glad I did. Hart is super passionate about the material and it shows throughout all her lectures. She is kind to every student while incorporating as much humor as she can. She does cold call which can intimidate some students but her main goal is just to get people to participate so as long as you say something, anything, you'll be fine. This class is super easy as long as you attend consistently (two absences allowed) and do all the assignments (light homework and 2 essays over the quarter). Grading is super lenient. I thought I bombed the second midterm, so I was pleasantly surprised to see a B+. Take her!

Profe Hart is one of the most engaged and interesting professors I’ve ever had. She truly cares about the subject matter and obviously loves teaching it, which is pretty infectious. The class I took was mostly whole-class open-ended discussion on the literature of the Latin American Boom. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you read the material and were willing to participate you were basically guaranteed a B at least. I also took Spanish History and Culture with her, which was a really interesting and fun class. Would definitely recommend.

FYI: The new course title is ISLA 310. Dr.Hart was easily the nicest and best professor I've had for a GE, by far. I couldn't care less about Colonial Latin Literature but she is very passionate and understanding of student needs and difficulties. Essays and test are easy provided you do the reading questions and have basic writing and interpretation abilities. I would recommend her for any class, because she truly cares about the student and the material.

I transferred to Cal Poly and enrolled in Dr. Hart's class, ISLA 310, for my first quarter. Although I was intimidated at first, I stuck with the class anyway and ended up loving it. And her. Dr. Hart is an incredibly warm-hearted, entertaining, informative instructor with a true passion for her job. It is obvious that she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Even if you are not a history fanatic, you will love Dr. Hart and all she has to teach you - as long as you're not a complete slacker...if so, she'll likely lose a bit of respect for you. As she should. After all, she's putting in a ton of time to make this class remarkable. I walked away from this class gaining so much more knowledge about Latin America than I initially expected. I also had a lot more fun than I thought I would. Also, go to office hours. If you don't have a question, think of one or two. Visiting Dr. Hart in office hours is probably the most useful thing you can do for your overall understanding of the material. She makes everyone feel very comfortable and is beyond helpful.

She is a great professor. She clearly outlines the requirements for her class. There are no surprises on the tests and she is fairly lenient when it comes to grading essays. She is also very nice. I took the colonial Latin America focused class. I learned and read some interesting stuff from the era. It was a nice break from my engineering classes. I definitely recommend Marion if you need to take your upper div GE. I ended up with a B+. If I tried just a little harder, I could have got an A without too much difficulty.

I took Professor Hart for Humanities of Latin American Cultures (ISLA 310 aka HUM 310). She is very passionate about the subject material. She has a lot of knowledge and is eager to share it. She is a very fair grader and was not trying to fail any students. For me it was very manageable to earn an A if you participate in class and do the readings outside of class. The 12 page paper at the end of the quarter is rough but she makes you do a bunch of drafts and gives good feedback on how to get a better grade.

I took Dr. Hart's Spanish Cultures class as a GE. Dr. Hart is very interested in what she teaches and accommodates to students pretty nicely. However, this class was so absolutely boring, painful to sit through, and confusing that I really wish I took a different class for this area GE. She is very intimidating in class and will call you out to answer a very ambiguous question or just says "What questions do you have?" and then will call on you. I had anxiety every time i had to be in that class in fear that she would single me out to ask questions on extremely difficult to understand Spanish literature on existentialism (Why is this relevant to Spanish cultures? The world may never know). This was just my personal experience however, and maybe I had a different take on the class because i'm a science major with no creative thinking background. Some people really enjoyed her class I think, and others hated it. Overall, the class is not that hard if you keep up with the reading, and don't mind putting in some effort into essays.

Dr. Hart is an inspirational professor. Although I didn't care much about Latin Literature, she portrayed the information very well, persuading me to learn more about the subject. Although there is reading every week, it's not difficult and the books are actually interesting. The essays are not hard as well since she structures the class to help you finish the paper by the end of the quarter. I took this class C/NC but i regret it. Take her!

Dr. Hart makes the class pretty interesting and she is very passionate about Spain and its culture. The class always takes the full time, so never expect to get out early, and she sometimes goes on and on about something to where you don't know how it applies. But overall a good class and not too difficult. I learned a lot.

For a GE, Hart definitely expects a lot more work than what is normal which was pretty much my only problem with the class but as long as you get your work done, then you will be fine. For homework, all we had to was read a couple historical speeches and read two novels. She puts on polylearn some suggested questions for each speech you're expected to read as homework, but you don't have to actually answer them or bring it to class. But if you want an A, answer each question as you read because she uses the suggested questions as questions for the online midterms. Had 2 online midterms, the first was one half short answer questions on the readings and the other half was to write an essay from a random prompt on one of the books you read for the quarter. The second midterm was just short answer questions, only an hour long. She assigns two essays, 5-7 pages double spaced, both on two novels you read throughout the quarter. I think this is where people have the most difficulty because the prompts for these essays are somewhat poorly framed but go into her office hours and she will guide you on what you should write. The essays are extremely easy, as long as you can write well and formulate a clear argument and go into her office hours, you should get an A. Besides the level of work in the class, I really enjoyed this class. Hart is nice, friendly, and just wants people to participate in the class discussions and leave the quarter with having learned at least something. I'd definitely recommend taking this class because she wants you to do well and if you try in class, she will immediately like you. Also, for our final, we painted propaganda posters (no artistic level required) and we had a gallery walk around. Easiest final on my life. Take this class!!

I don't know why her polyratings are so high but Hart's class is really frustrating because she is so incredibly sweet and friendly, but at the same time her class is just too unorganized. She takes forever to grade anything and is super vague when it comes to a lot of the assignments. There are two 6 page essays with prompts that are extremely open ended and only cover a tiny portion of the material you learn in class so they are difficult to write... we didn't get the prompts until a week or so before they were due. She also doesn't like to teach so be prepared to sit in class and not learn while you have all this work piling up on you. Most of this class is self-taught so don't expect too much from her except her calling on you to answer random questions about life and politics. Overall, I'm really disappointed because this class was nothing like Hart made it out to be. I really wish I had learned more.
