Not too much lecturing, mostly lab time for the many many still lifes you will do. Critiques can take most of the class sometimes so you might get bored when she's not talking about your work. Sometimes she talks in a baby voice if she's critiquing something she doesn't like so much, which isn't so bad, but I guess if that annoys you consider this a warning. As an art student: Ava's great. If you really know what you're doing then she'll push you to try different stuff, and I think her feedback is actually helpful and not too mean. If you're not an art student: Ava is super understanding if art isn't something you're experienced in. Her feedback reflects your ability, and not so much how your art compares to others. At the end of the quarter you bring in all your past work with your final and she looks for improvement, so as long as you listen to her feedback and try your best to incorporate it into your work she'll like your progress. Can't vouch for what grade you'll get, but I think she likes to see art from any major, so I'd recommend her.

Ava is a great professor and very understanding when it comes to late work. A bit of a hard grader but overall very laid back and easy to talk to

Werner's great! Not too much lecture, mostly time for work and a LOT of time fo critiques. I feel like I learned some good color theory basics and all the assignments were fun. She's super forgiving if you turn stuff in late and you can revise your work as much as you want. If you want a good grade just listen to the critiques you get and you'll be fine. You'll buy a ton of paints and color aid but honestly you're probably not going to use them too much if you start going digital towards the end of the quarter. Definitely split the color aid with someone else (or just get free paint chips from hardware stores, it worked for me) and maybe even the paints if you don't think you'll want to make too many projects with them. All in all a good class.

Professor Werner is an interesting professor. She just came this year so she is super new and keeps talking about it whenever she says something about polylearn. I'm expecting an A because she only has three tests all quarter and the rest is attendance, maybe a little participation. So she is a great teacher to take. Easy tests and she even spaced out on the second one so we will probably get a curve. Her tests are easy, with pictures, and they are about 30 questions. She has homework, but nothing to turn in, they are just reading or auxiliary assignments which she discusses in class. Towards the end she seems to be in a bit of a bind for the material. So she is saying there is some material we will be responsible for. I don't expect it to be to difficult. To be honest I haven't picked up the book and that is because it seems dense however she seems to be a little more impromptu with her powerpoints. I like her teaching style and the class is a simple general education class. She is a nice teacher and knows her class is simply what it is. I recommend her.

So I was in class the other day and miss teach'n lady pulled up some picture of some Russian feller who cut a cow in half. She said the meaning was that Americans eat to much beef. So i says teach'n lady you are wrong about that. Ya see, that there is a Holstein cow. They ain't used for beef, thems dairy cows. If he was tryin to talk about beef, he should have used an Angus, Hereford, or a Shorthorn steer. So i tells her, teach'n lady, You best be checkin your bovine facts before you be comin in hear blowin about how Americans eat too much beef. USA, USA, USA! Roll Tide

she's new to Cal Poly, so i think that made it especially easy for students this fall quarter to get an A. the only grades are 2 midterms and a final. the midterms ARE NOT cumulative. they are around 30-40 multiple choice, with pictures. really easy, just have to pay attention in class. the final was online. and we were allowed to attempt it as many times as possible...it even gave us the correct answer if we got one wrong. overall, chill lady. interesting powerpoints. easy GE.

Ava is an amazing teacher and I would highly recommend taking one of her classes if you have the opportunity. While sometimes the class can be boring she is super funny person and tries to lighten up the material. This class is easy to get in A in all you really have to do is show up to class. She makes it super clear what will be on tests and posts all her powerpoints to Polylearn.

I would recommend this class. Just know a few things: don't buy the book huge waste of money you will never use it, all test questions are on the powerpoints in class and what her opinions are on them. All you have to do is go to class take notes when she says "I would expect you to know this on a test" or when she rambles on about an artist. She is fairly easy and the final was online which was awesome! Warning: if at the end of the year you email her to ask her bump up your grade (which she says she will do in class if you have good participation) she will not reply! Other than that she's super cool just pay attention to what she says in class and that's all you will have to do for her all quarter!

I would recommend this class. Professor Werner keeps the lecture pretty interesting, but that might just be because I really enjoyed the art pieces she showed us. There are times you can probably skip out on the class if you need to, but I enjoyed coming to class. The tests are straight forward. Some questions are subjective to her own opinion, so pay close attention to what she says about the artist and their art. Tests contained a combination of info from both lecture and the book. The book is pretty cheap, $15. If you're looking for an easy class to fulfill your GE, I would say take this one.

From the first day Werner was hilarious, energetic, and very organized with her presentations. She was my favorite professor this quarter and I would recommend this class to anyone needing an elective of GE in this area. If you pay attention in class and review your notes for half an hour in preparation for her exams you will getl at least a high B. I learned a lot about art throughout history and have even found it useful in some encounters I've had in my everyday life in regards to art. I was very pleasantly surprised with her and this class, and if you pay attention you will get an A in this class. Plus she's just really great.

Werner is a pretty good teacher. She grades on attendance and 3 exams. She tells you during every powerpoint what to know for the exam, so if take notes on what she says to pay attention to, you'll get A. She definitely knows a lot about art and she manages to make a boring GE into an interesting class. She does occasionally go off into directions that we do not need to know, but I would still recommend her. It's hard not to pass this class, unless you don't show up. Take her because it will make a GE easy and interesting with literally no homework. (Don't buy the book, you don't need it)

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Super easy GE. Grades on a midterm and a final and attendance. You don't even need to read the book to do well, I didn't open the book once, just took notes in class on what she says "you should know for the test" and still got a high A. Werner makes the material interesting, she's the GOAT

She seems like a very chill person during her lectures, and never pulls any questions on tests out of thin air. The class is easy to prepare for, and it's even easier to get good grades on the tests and final.

Easy class, 100% NO bullshit as a General Elective class, no test question was bad or pulled out of thin air. You can prepare for everything in this class. ...But that ain't even it.... ...On top of that, Werner is such a nice person, VERY understanding of the class, and SUPER CHILL. As someone who has never been that interested in "Art History" I LEARNED SO MUCH IN THIS CLASS + I actually found myself ENJOYING every day of lecture. Powerpoints, videos, and even a Movie we had to watch when class was cancelled were all awesome! If you weren't blocked into this class as a Freshman like I did (Very Lucky) you might want to wait until you have higher priority to register for this class as it usually fills up quite fast BUT DEFINITELY TAKE THIS CLASS!

Werner is very entertaining. She's funny and straightforward with what she wants you to know. The class before each midterm, she will review and tell you exactly what she expects you to know. Midterms are multiple choice, 50 questions each, and the final is an online exam--so open note and open book. No need to buy the book. Highly recommend taking this class, no work if you pay attention in class.

Ava is awesome, quirky, and funny. She knows her material well and if you actually care at all and put in a little effort you can do great in the class. This class really isnt hard, two midterms and we had one quiz. Had to write one paper that was max of two pages double spaced (literally it was free points, opinion based paper written about an art piece). Plus the final is online which is great. Definitely would recommend her. Only warning, it is history of art, don't be fooled by art, there is no drawing or fun stuff, just lecture and the occasional movie shananagins. TAKE THE CLASS
