Dr. Levenson is one of the few here at Cal Poly that actually wants to be here. He is incredibly knowledgable about GrC and extremely dedicated to his job. While sometimes he seems not interested in answering questions, this guy is good, fair, and suggest that you take him if you can!!!

One hour lecture for three days a week, and the only classwork involved is a term paper, one midterm and a final. How simple can things can be? There's also "cyber-lectures" in case Levenson has to miss his lectures (he IS a very busy guy; he's always going somewhere for a convention or something... shows how world-wide known our professors are at Cal Poly). And if you don't understand something, e-mail him and you're sure to get an answer back. It's a requirement for all GrC students, but I recemmend this class to anyone who seems interested, because it gives you a good idea what GrC is all about, and it's not that much of a boring class. (I converted a friend from another major into GrC because of this class!) I also thought having guest speakers/lecturers from industry companies like Adobe was pretty cool.

His class is really boring. He lectures on a whole bunch of stuff that he finds exciting but doesn't do anything to make it exciting for his students. His first test is pretty much the same as the exam that he gave the previous years so if you can get your hands on a copy of the past test it is a good study aid. There is one term paper that is easy to do but it is a report on three GRC articles and it is kind of hard to find ones that are interesting. For the final he gives you a 250 question worksheet where he takes 100 of them word-for-word on the final exam. It is time consuming to complete the questions but it pays off on the test. Attendance is part of your grade so you have to go to everyclass.

Professor Levenson's 101 class is pretty cool; the beginning of the quarter is more interesting than the end. You learn about new Graphic technology, but he has the tendency to give you lots and lots of useless facts, while expecting you to write down all the facts he gives you on Powerpoint. You do not need to really read the material much: he tells you exactly what will be on the midterm and final. There is only one research paper, which is pretty easy to do. Adobe and Apple presentors as well.

By far the most interesting and fun class I've taken here. What he shows you about future technology is impressive, because of this course I'm minoring in GRC. We had 5-6 cyberlectures where you don't have to go to class ... and it's a 1 hour class 3 days a week, so not many classes to go to at all. He does grade heavily on attendance, which I got marked down for. I highly recommend this class.

Harvey loves GRC, and you can tell from his lectures because he gets very excited about whatever he is talking about. as long as you go to a few lectures and understand the basic concepts you should do fine, but make sure you spend a decent amount of time on the term paper. and watch out, he gulps down water from his water bottle like he's a damn camel, sometimes we wondered if he was gonna choke.

Entering college and being unsure about your major, Prof. Levenson's class is the class to take. He really gets into his lectures and makes topics you may not find very interesting, interesting. If you have a question, just email him and he literally replies back in like 5 minutes. I don't know how he does it but I've emailed him a couple of times and the next time I checked my mail, I got a reply back instantly. Go to every lecture because he checks attendance and it really helps your grade if you're borderline. Also email him because that counts for participation. The term paper is really simple and 6 pages is nothing. The final he gives you a packet of 250 questions to study and he'll choose 100 of that 250 for the test. The final, the term paper, and attendance raised me up an entire grade. So if you mess up on the midterm, don't worry. He tells you everything that will be on the midterm as well - no surprises. Great class, had fun, and made me confident that I chose the right major.

Awesome professor. Very interesting and entertaining. Tests aren't too bad. Though it was just an introductory course, it was pretty easy. One downside, the class grade is determined by one midterm, a term paper, and a final. The paper is ridiculously easy. Levenson is also very understanding and amiable. He's very willing to re-evaluate grading if you think he missed something.

I got a lot out of Dr. Levenson's class. From day one he was very enthusiastic and excited about what he was teaching. He introduced me to a lot of material i had no idea about. his class is fairly easy if you just go to class and look over his power points. a lot of it is common sense stuff. i found the reading to redundant to his lectures so i didn't find that necessary. this class is required for all grc majors so i would just say you won't have to worry about this class. it's cake!

Dr. Levenson is very enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgable. He can get a bit repetative at times, but he is a very good teacher and I learned a lot from him. I enjoyed the class, and for a class with such little homework, I found it a very valuable experience. It was a good introduction to the GrC major.

enthusiastic, funny, LOVES the subject. pretty laid back course, but you have to do well on the midterm and final. the final was easy because he gave you a list of questions that might be on it, so you could just study from that. The paper was fine. The midterm was probably the hardest for me because i didn't know what to expect and i didn't study as much as i should have. There are two books and it's hard to keep up with the reading because everything is so redundant. I only read about half of each book and then read up on it to study for the final. If i did better on the midterm i think i could have gotten an A. so overall good professor, pretty easy course.

Nice guy and really passionate about graphic communications, but not exactly the best teacher. His lectures were sometimes really boring and dry. The grade is something like: final (50%), midterm (25%), one paper (15%- not a hard paper at all), and attendance (10%). The final was not hard at all because he gave us study guides with 300 questions (100 of them going straight from that onto final). Overall, not a very exciting class but okay teacher.

Professor Levenson is really straightforward in his classes. Everyday is a lecture with a powerpoint. And he puts all the powerpoints online. But you still need to go to class because attendance is part of your grade. He wrote the textbook used for the class so you barely need to read since he puts it all on the powerpoints. There is a test, a final, and a paper. The tests are easy if you read his powerpoints (he practically gives you the answers since the powerpoints are summaries of the books and the test questions are basically the powerpoints in question-form). The paper was easy too. I think overall the class had very interesting information. The way he presented it was boring but it's an easy class because there are always a lot of students and he doesn't have time to give each individual student personal attention. Just make sure that if you don't pay attention in class, either read the books or read the powerpoints.

He writes his own books. Yes he is one of those guys. Makes bank off of poor students who are forced to buy his book for his class. You really don't have to buy the books. You should just go to every lecture. The lectures are actually are quite interesting.

Simply put, this was an easy class and the lectures were actually pretty interesting if you paid attention. Yes, Harvey does make his book part of the required course material but I only read 40 pages of it and aced the midterm and the final. He tells you exactly what the essay topics and questions will be on and even gives out all the possible questions for the final, so you know EXACTLY what will be on it. If you want to get on his good side be sure to ask questions during class too because most people are too shy too or just don\'t care. Apple and Adobe - as well as other high up multimedia industry people - come to speak for this class every year too so those are especially interesting days. Fun fact, his favorite word is \"anecdote\" so it\'s fun to count how many times he says it during a lecture.

The class material was overall pretty interesting. Levenson spends way too much glorifying and bragging about how amazing graphic communication is and how the program at cal poly is so brilliant. I found myself wanting to know the actual facts most of the time instead of hearing his opinion on everything. Also, he speaks as though he\'s talking to a small group of people rather than the whole class so it\'s quite hard to hear him which doesn\'t reflect well since he\'s the head of a major that emphasizes good communication. The midterm and the term paper seemed harder than the final. It\'s nice on the final since he gives you all the questions beforehand so there\'s no surprises. The lectures are based on the required book that he wrote so he mostly repeats things from the reading. Overall, an interesting course that needs a better teacher to teach it.

Levenson's way of teaching for this class was great... he keeps you on a reasonable schedule with deadlines scattered throughout the quarter that help you stay on track with your senior project paper. He's great at motivating you at the first class meeting to get you committed to the senior project and also at answering any questions you may have. There are only 2 quizzes throughout the quarter (which he allows you to re-take if you want to get a better grade) and nothing else other than the paper. He takes attendance at all labs so make sure and be there... plus lab time is great for forcing you to sit down and tackle your paper.

Levenson has a hard on for making a big deal out of the writing aspect in your senior project. Sure, I understand that we need to produce a good senior project with material that illustrates a graduating senior; however, I didn't become a GrC major to be an english student. The guy continually talks about "scholarly writing" and giving back to the university. Maybe that's because he's never had a real job? That's right, the guy has been in school for about 50 years now, hasn't ever left. How about when he talks? He has these random voice inflections that will knock you out of a solid sleep session like a scud missle. Overall -- he has no real industry concept, he's a life long student who needs to get his ass out of the office and into the real world to see that taking up our time to write "scholarly" is a bunch of BS!
