Cal Poly is letting Koeninger go because of budget cuts. Poly is making a big mistake. We NEED more teachers like Koeninger - the fact that he's newer than the other history professors is a terrible reason to let him go. Cal Poly should be focusing on what is best for the students. Koeninger is it! He has got to be the best history teacher here and I'd probably go as far as saying he is the best overall at Cal Poly. He cares about his students sooooo much. His tests are challenging if you're not a good test taker like me, but I went in to see him after the first test and he promised me that I would be okay. He worked with me for the rest of the quarter...we would go over the study guides in depth and he would narrow it down to key words and concepts that I could understand and be able to remember for his tests. Not only did he care about me doing well in his class...he would talk to me about life and things I was dealing with...we still joke about him being my "counselor" too. I still see him on campus and he is interested in what I am doing and how I am. His lectures are sooooo funny. Your hand will be tired at the end of that hour from writing so much but you'll love going to class. It's like story time. He is so knowledgable and he makes history interesting. I hated history with a passion before taking this class. If Koeninger is still here when you're ready to take HIST 204, good luck getting into his class. Take a priority if you have to...that's how popular of a teacher he is. Good luck!

The BEST teacher I have ever had-period. His lectures are so intense they make you cry. History does not appeal to many people, but I promise if you take this class, you will never feel the same about the subject. You take notes the whole period, but they way he presents it is facinating. The tests come straight from what is in lecture and the reading so you will do well if you try. Believe me, after you experience his passion and enthusiasm, you will want to do well, as a thank you for him making class wonderful for a change.

I was mortified to hear of his leaving Cal Poly, he is an awesome teacher with a great passion for history and teaching. He truly cares about the students, and makes every attempt to clearly present the information. His lectures capture my attention like no other teacher has before, or ever will. Sadly Koeninger is being relocated to Cuesta, I would be willing to commute just to attend his class. I will always remember his enthusiasm and sincere love for the subject he knows so well.

He was the most interesting and enthusiastic teacher I've ever taken. He lectures every class, but keeps everyone listening in anticipation the whole time. I will probably never love history, but he did make history come to life in my mind and not simply exist as words in a textbook. He gives a good review sheet before the midterms that really helps a lot. If I had taken the time to study I could have easily pulled a better grade. Don't miss class! He is too good of a teacher and a lot of the tests are based on lecture.

ONE of the best teachers? What are these people talking about...he IS the best teacher at Cal Poly, and for that matter the best teacher I've ever had. Even if you hate attending class, you will find yourself there every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday taking notes on every word he says, and enjoying every minute of it. You can't help but learn, sleeping is impossible! What a loss though...I've heard that he's been shipped off to Cuesta because of budget cutbacks. If he does teach at Poly next quarter be sure to add his class, you won't regret it.

This is the best teacher I have ever had at any level. If you watch Seinfeld its basically Crammer with a doctorate in History. I've never seen anybody lecture with so much enthusiasm. He absolutely loves this subject. I would take this class again just for fun. His are not easy but its fair and theres alot of note taking. I devinitely suggest this teacher.

He is one heck of an instructor. His lectures are not boring and long. Because he's such a passionate instructor, all of his lectures we're exciting and fun. He makes your feel as if your living the history instead of learning it.

He is one of those faqcinating and knowledgable teachers that you wish all teachers were like. His lectures are interesting and contain as little frivolus material as possible. There is some reading, but it is not your usual mind-numbing textbook. He personally writes the tests so if you listen to his lectures and read the book (with study guide) intently, you are guareenteed a good grade.

Koeninger is an excellent lecturer. He makes history so interesting- even if you dislike history now, you will enjoy it after taking his class. He is a very fast lecturer and it's a challenge to keep up, but it's so interesting that you want to keep up. If you study his study guide really well before each test, you'll do really well.

I have recommended Dr. Koeninger to every single one of my friends. Words can't describe how much I learned from this man. History is not my favorite subject (and I was dreading taking this class) but he made me want to come to class. I had him as a teacher his first quarter at Cal Poly. He cares about his students. He is from Santa Barbara but commutes up to SLO 3 times a week. The weekend before finals he couldn't come up to give us a review session (which he wanted to do out of the goodness of his heart) so he gave us his home phone number and hours that we could reach him. He was more than willing to answer any and all questions we had. If you need to take History 204 and aren't thrilled about taking it then take it from Dr. Koeninger. . . .you won't regret it!

He's incredible. I hate to attend class, but I religously attend his. He tries his hardest to make the material understandable and memorable. His tests are very straight forward, but you Must attend class in order to pass. There's no homework, just reading. Great Class.

One of the first classes I took at Poly and I have to say has been my best first experience ever. Dr. Koeninger is very passionate about he subject he teaches, and that is the kind of professor that I recommend, one that loves his job and not hate it. He gives out study sheets and the test comes straightly out of those sheets. Tests were fairly easy. Lectures are greater. I never feel asleep in his class because it was exciting and interesting to learn. He is very enthusiatic and funny. Overall great teacher and probably your best learning experience

Dr. Koeninger is the BEST teacher I've had at Cal Poly by far. He is so enthusiastic and passionate about his subject that it is impossible not to fall in love with history. I took his class fall quarter and enjoyed it so much that I came once a week to the same class during spring quarter just to hear him speak. If you take good notes (and believe me you'll be taking lots of them) then you should be fine. He has extra credit opportunities and gives you study guides for the one midterm and the final. Trust me on this; take his class, you will not regret it.

Dr. Koeninger is a very passionate and enthusiastic lecturer. His American History class is a very decent and honest introduction to an underestimated short history of the American people. His class is not hard if you attend all the lectures, keep up with the readings, and take notes as fast as you can pick your nose. You're probably better off taking a recorder to his class, his enthusiasim is so overwhelming in a way that you would want to sit back and watch him act his history class :) He gives at least a maximum of 10 xtra credit pts. and they could really compensate for a low exam score so don't give that chance up..... His exam questions are tricky if you haven't done your reading, however, the answers will pop out if you have read the material and understood it. Cheers and good luck ....... P.S Dates and stupid details are not to be memorized in this class (^_^)

koeninger is one of the best professors i've had at poly. he's enthusiastic, funny, and incredibly passionate about history. he makes the lectures come alive and the hour goes by quickly. but you need to attend class... there's a lecture, reading from the book, sometimes video, and a food for thought section on the midterms. HE hands out a study sheet... just be sure to do the readings, key terms, and go to class... the test should be easy enough to get an A if you try.. take this professor.. he's the best!

Koeninger is a Excellent Lecturer. Do not skip class because it really helps you for the test. I am an A student however, and I got a B, LUCKILY because of the extra credit and his help. The wording of the questions on the test are obscure and sometimes hard to understand, even when you have read all the chapters and know the answer. If you are a person like me and get thrown off by test questions, this is probably not the teacher for you(Grades are based solely on test scores.)If you are a good test taker. Take Koeninger because he is the best lecturer you will ever have, and he really cares about his students. Ask him about his grandmother and how he grew up and you will get some history in the process. ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT CAL POLY.

This teacher is amazing- probably the best I've had at Cal Poly. He taught six or seven classes at Cal Poly last quarter, plus classes at Santa Barbara -yet I have never seen a teacher with such passion, energy, and personality. His lectures are interesting, well thought-out, and he always lets out at least ten minutes early. Your grade is based on three midterms (final was not cummulative), which are fairly straight foward. Read the book, go to class, and you will get at least a B and have a decent time doing it. He also gives extra credit. Anyways, Koeninger comes highly recommended..he's also one of the funniest guys I know and kept the class smiling, paying attention, and interested at all times. WOW!!

Dr. Koeninger is the best teacher I have ever had. I never once missed a class because his lectures are so enjoyable and entertaining. He has so much enthusiasm for the subject that is easily contagious. I hated history with a passion before I took this course, but now I see it is more than just dates and names to remember. The hour goes so quickly, which usually is impossible for a college class. It is so easy to remember the information for the tests because you really retain the information he gives during lecture. He is so funny and in the middle of lecture will run out into the hall and say something to the students there. He is the kind of teacher that actually changes lives. He is the perfect example of what teaching should be. You must take him if you can.

This is the most energetic professor in all the world. His goal is to have everyone succeed. His tests have some very tricky questions, but if you take good notes in lecture, they should be n/p. He is a wonderful man who loves people to get involved in class, and if you dont, then he gets sad, but not mad. This proves he is a wonderful professor we have at CalPoly and hopefully they wont fire him like they do to all the good ones here. Take this man no matter what you have to do to get in it. Last year when I took it, there was over 40 people trying to crash in his class. Peace out.....late

Wow! This teacher is the reason why tenure was invented. It is such a blessing to have a teacher so passionate about his or her subject matter and also make others passionate about it at the same time. I strongly recommend this class to anyone searching for a wonderful learning experience, a good grade, or an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher. The course textbook is also very easy reading; almost like reading a novel.

What i don't understand is how this guy has a 4.9 rating. Why the heck doesn't he have a 5.0. You will never forget this man. The most passionate, entertaining, and awesome professor you will ever have. It is truely an outrage that cal poly is letting him go. Professors of his type you keep, give them a raise, and make them the cornerstone of your department. You don't cast them off to cuesta. Every day the class was full to the brim. A professor well worth waiting for. A+

Well I feel kind of repetitive after all the other 29 evaluations, but there is no professor at Cal Poly that deserves them more than Anthony Koeninger. No joke, by far the most influential, inspiring, knowledgeable, and entertaining professors I've had, ever! He gives you your money's worth - from start to finish of each lecture he's talking nonstop, lecuturing and cracking jokes at the same time, so be sure to attend all classes. Class grade is based on (3) 50 pt. midterms, each covering both lecture and material from the text. Something everyone else has mentioned as well is the way he relates to each of his student's on a personal level. I crashed his class (lucky) so he knew me from the first day on and immediately started up conversation- what I was interested in, if I partied too much (he was concerned), etc. Overall, it's a damn shame that Cal Poly is letting him go to Cuesta, truly our universtiy's loss. He's the most easy-going, laid-back guy I've ever met (west coast surfer from the '70s), the only possible way to get on his bad side is to not like cats! (it's an inside thing, go to his class and see for yourself)

I've only been at Cal Poly one year but Dr. Koeninger is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is so passionate about history that it makes you much more interested and involved in the class. He doesn't teach the classic textbook, trivial crap that has no meaning and often hides the darker facts; but he teaches every aspect behind history and explains the ideas and importance behind it, and he also describes in great detail what it was like for the people, which gives it so much more meaning. He always helps you if you need it and his tests are very fair. It is a great injustice to future HIST 204 "Polywogs (as he calls us)" to be deprived of such a great professor. Im not sure of the credibility behind this, but I heard he is getting "let go" due to department downsizing and he is a newer professor at Poly so they got rid of him. If that is the case, then that is horsesh*t. To keep a bad professor who has been there for a long time over a newer professor that is awesome is complete nonsense. Seniority should have nothing to do with who is on the staff at this university. By doing this, Cal Poly is only hurting students by not offering us the best that they possibly can, and that is ridiculous. So I can only wish Dr. Anthony Koeninger the best of luck in the future and hope that someday Cal Poly will realize how big of a mistake they made and get him back.

This guy made history come to life. I used to hate the subject, but now I find myself watching the history channel. This professor was honestly the best teacher I have had at Cal Poly. There is a lot of material to be known for the class but he helps in any way he can. First he gives you key terms for his lectures so you can follow along and know what to take notes on. He also gives you another key terms list for the book so you know what he wants you to know. He gives you extra credit which is so helpful...easy enough to get Bs on the tests and the extra credit will raise it to an A in the class. He is such a nice guy and I recommend him for any class.

I don't know if Professor Koeninger is still teaching at Cal Poly. He IS the best teacher I have ever had. I heard from him in class last summer that he accepted offer at Cuesta College. But after a month or so I heard from one of my female friend, who took his class, who works for the school, that he was fired by Cal Poly. He IS the best teacher in the world! I guess I still want to know the reason because I think that it would be nice if Cal Poly can re-hire him. And don't let me know who let him go, because I would get fairly mad at that person. I don't know what I would do then. But I am still not sure if he is at Cal Poly teaching, and I am sure that the administration wouldn't look it up for me. Can someone give me an answer?

I was so excited about taking Dr. Koeninger after reading his evaluations. This was the worst class I have yet to take at Cal Poly! His lectures were so fast I often couldn't take all the information down in notes and what was even worse than that is that I didn't learn a damn thing over and above what I learned in seventh grade history! Whoa, you mean slaves were treated brutally and brought over in the bottom of stinky ships, shackeled together and laying in their own urine?!?! I haven't heard that every year since my induction into the public education system! OH, and his tests - BULLSHIT - they were all impossible to get if you didn't spend at least six hours a week reading... plus doing his precious little artsy extra credit assignments! I hope you like poetry, because he will shove plenty of his own created poetry down your throat to make you even more biased against slaveholders or whatever he was preeching about. He says he wants to make you aware of history so you can learn from it - do you really think the slaveholders realized they were doing something so horrible? I don't! How about telling us a little about what they were thinking as opposed to trying to make us hate them! Dr. Kenninger needs to get a life!
