Dr. Paul is a pretty good professor and looks like Ted Mosby from HIMYM, which is awesome. However, he doesn't really go out of his way to help students succeed. His lectures were fine, but very bland. Sit down, take notes and leave. A quiz every week, two midterms, and a final... as well as some other random things to add in a few points here and there. He always seemed slightly annoyed when I went to office hours to ask questions, which made me wary of asking anything. However, my main issue is that he doesn't post grades so you really don't have a good idea of where you stand grade wise in his class... I really like to know how I am doing in my classes so I can dedicate more time to a class I'm doing worse in. All in all he's a decent professor... but I think he's figuring it out. He's super young.

I took Calculus (Math 141) with Dr. Paul last quarter and had a great experience being in his class. I had taken AP Calculus in high school so I had some previous knowledge of the course material but definitely needed to strengthen it. Dr. Paul was great at teaching the material in an easy-to-understand, straightforward way that helped me understand topics that I didn't get in high school. His homework policy is really awesome in that it's not mandatory, but you can turn it in for some quiz credit if you feel like you bombed your quiz. There's a quiz every week, two midterms, and a final and Dr. Paul is very clear about what exactly will be on the quizzes/tests. The homework is relevant to the problems on the quizzes and tests, which was awesome because there were never any surprises on the tests. Also, Dr. Paul is a cool guy and easy to talk to. He's really great at working with you and your schedule whenever you have any problems and need to make up a quiz (or even test, depending on which one and what your situation is). I highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Paul!

Great Professor, would definatly take him again. he explains really well, the end of the year was a little rushed however because he spent a long time on the early stuff making sure people understood.

Alright so Dr.Paul is a fantastic professor to have for those who have never taken Calculus before He really does explain the core and fundamentals of calculus amazingly. He does leave homework (some he collects), and sometimes it's an insane amount but he doesn't check them thoroughly/scold you for not doing all of em. There's quizzes every friday. 3 super big tests (2 midterms, and a final) and a gateway test (basically testing your derivative skills). A plus on the homework and tests and such is that he doesn't ask you to simplify your answer (which is great because in calculus, the algebra is what usually kills you). TL;DR, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!!

Professor Paul is a very nice guy and does his best to explain topics clearly. That being said his notes are very unorganized and you will find yourself on Khan Academy most the time to review topics. You won't get a ton out of his lectures, but in office hours he will clarify topics nicely. Overall I would recommend, but be aware that you will spend a lot of time outside of class teaching yourself.

Absolutely loved Dr. Paul!! Very clear about the material, if you struggle with anything go to his office hours and he loves to help! Tests and quizzes are very straight forward, the final was difficult but manageable. Highly recommend!!

Dr. Paul was awesome! It was his first year as a professor at Poly straight out of UCSB grad school and he knew what he was doing. His lectures were great notes for the homework, and if you did all the homework you do fine on the quizzes. 1 quiz every friday, 2 midterms and a final. Super straight-forward and he picks the fairest questions rather than putting the hardest ones on the test. Highly suggest him.

Dr. Paul's a pretty cool guy in my opinion. He's super new, as in Fall Quarter 2013 was his first year out of USCB to teach. Myself being a freshman, I was a little annoyed by how packed with lecture the class ended up being, but I got used to it. He goes through the chapters at a solid pace and he assigns homework well enough in advance that you can look over it all and then probably he'll go over a section in it in class. Curves his two midterms, he has one special quiz on Convergence tests, quizzes every Friday - which you can turn in homework for instead for a max of 50% - and then the Final.

While Calc. III isn't the easiest class, Paul makes it about as painless as it can be. Straightforward lectures with very little unneeded material. Weekly quizzes are based on the homework, no trick questions. Everything on quizzes and tests is covered multiple times and isn't the easiest or the hardest of the material. There's also daily questions or concepts he posts on his webpage to talk about the next day in lecture, which supplements things nicely for those of you who like to delve deeper into the concepts.

I completely agree with everything everyone has said. I can only remember one lecture which confused me on TNB vectors, other than that he was very clear and walked us through the sections of the book. His office hours were also extremely helpful on some of the harder homework problems. Overall the midterms and final seemed very fair to me, no curveballs or nonsense. He also had two computer labs using Mathematica to explore Taylor series and some vector material, these were straightforward and pretty helpful. He's a super cool dude too, likes soccer and biking, saw him at farmer's market a couple times.

Dr. Paul presents the material clearly and at a pace that is comfortable for everyone in the room, taking the time to clarify a point if anyone has any questions. He prepares you pretty well for the midterms and final, which are both fair in terms of material covered and difficulty of problems. For weekly quizzes, you are given the choice of turning in the week's homework instead for a guaranteed flat 50% if you feel you completely bombed said quiz. There are also two computer labs in which you are given a relatively simple set of assignments on Mathematica (usually given on a Friday and due by the end of the weekend). Overall, there really isn't much stress from this class the way Dr. Paul teaches it, especially if you keep up with the current material being covered.

Dr. Paul knew exactly what he was doing. He gave weekly quizzes and his midterms were very straightforward, as was his final. He goes over things very quickly though in lecture and tends not to backtrack so you will need to put in some time outside of class. That being said he doesn't collect homework so you get out whatever you put into it. He also has a fair curve so chances are you'll do pretty well.

Dr. Paul was an amazing teacher for calc III. For one of the most hardest calc classes, Dr. Paul took it slow and helped anyone with questions in their head. His quizzes are simple if you do all the homework assigned and his midterms aren't so hard but they do require some studying. I wish I got to know Dr. Paul more, but maybe I'll have another class with him.

Really solid teacher. Explains material clearly and in detail, without being too detailed. He's passionate and interesting. There's weekly assigned homework, which isn't graded to hard (takes maybe 1hr/week max). There are also weekly quizzes which are pretty easy and very fair. I would recommend this guy to anyone.

I loved Dr. Paul and his class but I've took calculus in high school. So if you're an expert on derivatives and integrals then you'll get an easy A in this class. If you're not an expert, he might blow through material too fast, but just look up some of the concepts on khan academy and you'll be fine. Sidenote: Implicit differentiation is HORRIBLE.

Dr. Paul is a cool guy. The first couple days are weird because you feel like Ted Mosby from HIMYM is lecturing you. He is a new professor so he is definitely still getting the hang of teaching. However, it is clear that he has serious potential and as the quarter progressed he got noticeably better. The first couple weeks he seemed nervous and made a lot of errors while writing on the board. That wasn't a huge issue since he is very organized with his notes and students usually called him out on it. Dr. Paul is not a dry lecturer. I don't know if it's the Ted Mosby resemblance or what, but I never felt really bored in class. He has weekly in-class quizzes and only grades two homework problems a week. He also lists a lot of practice problems from the book that you can turn in instead of the quizzes if you feel like you did shitty (you only get 50% though). Do the practice problems and you will do fine on the quizzes and won't need to turn them in. His quizzes and tests are for the most part reasonable. There were, however, some proof problems that I thought were ridiculous and unnecessary. You will learn a lot with Dr. Paul. As I said, he is a new professor so I don't think he fully understands yet when students don't understand something. He doesn't spend enough time on the difficult concepts, etc. I would recommend him though. Solid class.

I had Dr. Paul for both 143 Fall 2013 and 244 Spring 2014. He was a young guy and fresh out of grad school, but he was on it. His expectations for the quizzes and midterms were clear, and his lectures were dense, but interesting and very informative. He answered questions thoroughly and properly, too. He's also a great guy if you get a chance to get to know him! He's a boss triathlete, which is pretty awesome! Overall, I would absolutely would recommend this professor.

I guess I'm done with this review now. But seriously, Dr. Paul is amazing. You ladies should especially consider him. #eyecandy

During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...
