Dr Hood is a good teacher if you are really willing to work hard. I did all the homework and went to office hours and still had trouble. I did pretty bad on the 1st midterm (D) and then got a couple homewrk assignments behind and everything went downhill from there. He's not very clear about what he's teaching in class so go to the office hours and work with other students. DO NOT GET BEHIND.

I personally like Dr. Hood. He had a clear way of explaining things due to the fact that I have already taken calculus in high school. He moves pretty fast, and for people with no calculus experience, it would be hard to follow him. Sometimes he mumbles into the chalkboard, but it is usually just his process to work out the problems. Now that I think about it, probably the only reason I understand anything in his class is because I have a background and his explanation just clarifies my old understanding of the concept. His tests are hard and take up the whole hour, so make sure you are prepared. You won't be pleased if you have never taken any calculus before... one student in my class has been left in the dust since the first couple of weeks. Basically, take Hood at your own risk (i.e. if you are a math buff, go for it.)

I never took calc before and my pre-calc course was lame, but this did not matter. He made the class interesting, homework counted towards your grade and he really wanted to help you. He knew everyone's name really quick. his grading scale is really nice and he curves tests for the better of the class. take him he is a good guy and good teacher

Hood is a decent teacher. Above average but nothing stunningly superior. He knows his stuff but sometimes doesn't clearly explain the concept of the material. Make sure you do the homework.

Halfway into this class, i asked myself..."Why am i waking up at 7am to deal with this guy." Myron is a very unclear and frustrating teacher. His "lectures" are more like quizzes than anything. He hurries through a lecture like he has something else better to do, and it seems like he could give a rat's a$$ about something else. In the middle of an example, he will stop and ask someone what to do. This is very annoying and once the "smart" guy in the corner gets it right, the example turns to old business. Homework is overbearing for the credit he gives you, the midterms are more like vocab quizes along with the information he kinda taught in class. And when those insanely hard exams are the only thing keeping you from falling, then your surely going to hit the ground.

Do not take Hood for Math 141, if you have an option. He talks to the board half of the time, and expects the students to already know the material. He does not clarify things. Before teaching he was one of the guys that came up with standarized tests, like the SAT's, so his test are completely random and somewhat difficult.

Dr. Hood is not a good teacher for Math 141. He tries to explain his material and most of the time he makes a few mistakes. He gives out tons of homework everyday and i seriously begin to think that he believes his class is very important. His student aid grades the homework like an asshole and gives you a zero unless you have the correct answer. His test are difficult, since he use to write SAT questions. Overall, DO NOT TAKE HIM. You will regret it. Most of the people in there were retaking the class and were the only ones that seriously passed.

I would not take Myron Hood for this class. He does not present the material clearly, and half the time you are seriously asking yourself, what the Hell is he talking about!?! Tons of homework is assigned every class, excluding midterm days, and it takes you forever to do it. The tests are really difficult, especially since he used to write the SAT problems. Even if you have taken calc before I would recommend this teacher. Most of the people doing semi-decent in the class were those who were retaking it. Even if you have a death wish and feel like being killed by math DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH MYRON!!!!!!

Ok, this teacher was boring and his style of teaching sucks. He went to fast on his lectures and really didn’t stop to see if his students understood the materials. We had to remember definitions for all of his tests. However his nice teacher and will try to remember your name. But, try avoiding taking this him!!!

Professor Hood was a great teacher. However, he was often dry at times. Having the class at 7 am didn't help either though.

Hood is very straightforward and cares about his students. He's a veteran teacher who knows exactly how to be a good professor. You always know exactly where you're at. The best thing is his lecturing ability, you actually can learn from the lecture what you need to know. A great lecturing teacher. If you take good notes you'll never have to crack the book.

I would avoid Hood if I were you. He didn't explain things at all. It pissed me off. Because he'd just be like, yea and this is 50, because of this integral and he wouldn't explain the actual concepts. So I'm sitting there like, but WHY professor WHY!!! And let me tell you about the final... end of class thursday of dead week someone asks can we have a cheat sheet? He's all sure why not. And he's all don't come to class friday unless u have questions. we all show up monday with notes not having memorized anything and he's all pass em foward, you can't use them!! We were so pissed!! Isn't that illegal or something?

This guy is just a really good teacher. I thought his class was perfectly straight forward and his exams were fair. Everything just made sense. If some problem was on the homework, most likely it was going to be on the test in either the same or slightly altered form. His grading scale is rather nice too. Plus, his lectures aren't boring at all and he's rather entertaining when he teaches.

As an incoming freshman, I thought this class was very fast pased. I went to class everyday and still got behind sometimes. If you catch on really quickly to things you'll have no problem in math 142. Dr. Hood is very striaght forward and just simply teaches the material. He is kinda boring but if you listen, makes sense and is clear about the topic. Go to his office hours and work w/ other people in the class. He grades homework and tests are way curved so that helps your grade.

Hood is a strange professor. He is incredibly smart and very cool, but he tends to not explain the material well enough for the class. Most of the time he will just do examples of problems and not clearly explain why he is doing each step. So when it comes time to do the homework (of which there is a LOT) I found it hard to do problems that were very different from the examples because he never explain what/why he was doing. But he is always willing ot help during office hours and will go over an entire assignment if that is what you need. His tests mainly consisted of the easier and middle difficulty problems from the homework and his grading scale is in the students favor. If you feel you can understand most of the math without too much explanation, then by all means, take Hood. He is a very funny and awesome professor.

At first I didn't think that I was going to like Hood too much but he turned out to be a funny guy. His lectures weren't horrible and the class was pretty easy for me anyway because I took calc in high school. A lot of people had trouble understanding him but if you seem to be ok with math then you'll do fine. There was a lot of homework but the midterms and final were completely fair and pretty straightforward. Overall, I really enjoyed his class.

Dr. Hood is a great guy. As long as you try in class you will be fine. It is not enough to just sit in his class and take notes. You have to LISTEN to him. His sense of humor is great. A pretty easy going guy. Homework is due every tuesday and thursday, but that is just meant to get your but in gear. His tests are extremely fair and he even gives extra points to the whole class if they have a relatively low average. I liked his lectures and his class, even though it was tough. This fellow is great.

there are 3 midterms and a final which make up 90% of your grade, but whichever has the higher score counts for 60% and the lower counts for 30% so if you do well on the midterms the final isnt very important. he assigns homework, but goes over it a day before you turn it in so you can actually learn the material. i would take him again if given the chance

damn this class was hard. he gives homework every night which takes an hour or two. he collects and grades every assignment so you need to know what you are doing. i thought his test were damn near impossible. he seemed to take the very hardest of the homework problems and put them on the test. he dropped our first test and curved the next two, but they were still very hard. dr. hood was VERY helpful in office hours. i would go everyday and he would help me, which is the only reason i passed.

PIMP!!!!!!! That's all you need to know. This whole quarter I woke up everyday at 7am just go to this class. He is the BEST CALC professor I have ever had in Cal Poly. You get 7 quizzes, he drops the lowest two, and the highest 5 quizzes count as one midterm. So If you get all 20s on your quizzes, you can afford to mess up on one midterm. And if you don't then the highest two scres are worth 60% of your grade. TAKE HIM!!!

Professor Hood was a better than average mathematics professor. He made quite a few mathematical errors which at times made the lectures somewhat difficult to follow. Professor hood was very helpful in office hours. His grading system is very lax. There was one change to his grading scale which ended up hurting all of the students grades. Hoods presentation of Vector calculus seemed rushed. Otherwise good instructor.

Professor Hood is a great teacher, easily one of the best calc professors I've ever had. HE does make a lot of arithmetic errors during lecture, but it's never anything more than switching a plus or minus sign-- easily understandable and correctible. Take this class for sure.

Professor Hood is a very good instructor. He does assign alot of homework, but in the end it only helps you. You will spend a good amount of time on it, but it is the only way you will understand it. He is also pretty cool in office hours, he genuinely wants to make sure you understand the topics. Overall, a pretty good teacher.

Hood is your average math teacher. He's not a super great lecturer but is really helpful during office hours. There are no quizzes, but he collects homework twice a week. The midterms and final are tough but he adjusts the grading scale alot to make up for it.

I'm not going to deny that this instructor sets up a course that is extremely challenging and even somewhat intimidating for students. However, Dr. Hood demonstrates a concept for math so profound that students can only hold the highest admiration and respect for him. He is organized, caring, and fair (although he doesn't give much partial credit on exams at all, but I'm sure he's consistent with this grading policy). Dr. Hood is regarded as one of the top mathematicians in Cal Poly. He's not the graduate coordinator for nothing you know. (Also MATH 406: course grade: A- )

Dr. Hood genuinely cares about you and your progress in the class...you just have to make the effort to let him know. Nice guy, a little harsh at times, brittle sense of humor. Homework was fair and very doable, tests were difficult, and the final was murder. But he curves nicely.

Dr. Hood's lectures are easy to listen to, spiced liberally with examples. Do not expect necessarily to finish his exams, but he does have a reasonable curve -- as long as you get at least 50% of the points on the exam. His quizzes are quite reasonable if you have done your homework. There is a large amount of homework, but he always employs good graders. He also picks good books with examples and excellent explainations.

During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...
