Dr. Marc is the Shit! He is so funny and you can tell he loves what he does. He knows alot of material and is very approachable. He makes the class very entertaining and does a good job holding your attention. Definitely take Dr.Marc for any class. (Do NOT ask him about grass... he won't stop telling you about it.. he knows too much!)

This was Dr. Horney's first year teaching this course and while he started off a little rocky, not too consistent with his lectures, they were always very interesting, just not necessarily on topic. Dr. Horney was great about answering questions in class, and if there was something he wasn't sure about, he would look up the answer and then email the entire class. He was also great about staying after class to clarify things or answer more student questions. His slide shows were always posted on blackboard so you could print them before class and then just take notes on them. He always put out a study guide for the midterms, but since the test is split between Edwards and Horney, his study guide wasn't always all that helpful. Studying off notes and the slide shows was definitely the best way to pass the midterms.

I really enjoyed Dr. H, especially when compared to his team-teacher, Edwards for ASCI 112. He was always as informative as he could be in his lectures, though he did tend to stray off topic, which put his students at a disadvantage seeing as how he would sometimes not even finish his slideshow lectures. He made up for his occasional off topic sprees by always posting the slideshows online, diligently answering student questions by e-mail, and being open for office hours. Though he was clearly passionate about teaching, a degree in animal nutrition did not completely qualify him to teach sometimes complicated aspects of biology, which led to some confusion and a whole lot of "I don't know"s. Though he was a little under qualified, he made up for it by researching the unknown information and answering the questions through blast e-mails later that day. overall a very good teacher

Dr. Horney was funny, smart, and always bubbly and happy. He is really passionate about the rangeland and presents thrilling lectures. However, he gets sidetracked really easily in lectures and isn't the brightest of bulbs on some more difficult topics. I loved having him for lectures, though, and know you will too!

horney+plummer+acsi112=clusterfuck. this is probably the most disorganized class I've ever taken in my life. they have never finished a powerpoint presentation. it takes them 10-15 minutes to get set up and start their lecture everyday. they made us buy $30 clickers and we have used them twice and it doesn't matter if u have one because half the class cant get theirs to work. it took them 2 weeks for them to grade and return our scantron? they post the study guides just a few days before the midterms. after he passed out the midterm he noticed a bunch of typos and mistakes and we had to waste time figuring it out.

If you plan on taking this class as a GE with Horney and Plummer... get out of it while you can. This class is a complete and total waste of time. You are expected to know a ridiculous amount of material over a very wide range of subjects. On top of that, you will be expected to retain all of this information yourself since they NEVER finish their lectures. Personally, I do not like to pay $60 for each class period when I am only being taught for about 30 minutes overall, and not taught well at that. Midterms are ridiculously difficult, and class is a complete waste of time.

This lecture is taught by both Dr. Horney and Plummer. While both of the professors are great people and very helpful, the course that they teach is very disorganized and hard. There is a ridiculous amount of material covered and they never complete their lectures so it is up to you to finish it. At the beginning of the quarter we spent a bunch of money on these clickers that never ended up working. It is one of those classes where the quizzes and what's covered in the class is straight forward then the test is way harder than it should be. Overall I would avoid this class... way too hard for a GE.

The class was team taught by Plummer and Horney. Horney is a great guy and helpful to talk to, but I honestly think he just doesn't realize the amount of material that he wants us to cover nor does he understand that it's a GE so most of us will never need to know this information again. It's so much information that it's almost laughable. The final is completely cumulative, and his "study guide" (which is of little use, and barely given to us 3 days before the final) basically has bullet points and instead of narrowing down the ridiculous amount of material, will instead say things like "know the information from the repro terminology PDF" (which is 5 pages of terms and diagrams). BTW that's only ONE bullet point. I will most likely get a B in the class but it was NOT worth the time that I put into it or the hassle of dealing with such an unorganized class. Oh and one more thing: I think the worst part about the class was that when there was even somewhat of an interesting topic, like say animal behavior or meat science, he would only ask one question about it on the 55 question midterm and focus the other 54 questions on the ridiculously boring and hard to memorize biology material. STAY AWAY.

This class was taught by Dr. Horney and Dr. Plummer. Dr. Horney is a good professor with good intentions. He wants his students to succeed. Everybody saying its hard to memorize the bio stuff, suck it up; this class is taken instead of a bio course so obviously a decent amount of it will be bio. All of his power points line up with the book and if you pay attention, read the textbook, and study 2-3 hours for his midterms, you should be fine. It's a real shame he has to teach with Dr. Plummer, who is quite possibly the WORST professor at Cal Poly. They shouldn't teach together, they are polar opposites. Hopefully in the near future administration will realize that Dr. Horney should teach this class solo, because Plummer truly ruins this class and should retire immediately

Dr. Marc goes through lecture super fast and doesn't help the students understand. If you have questions on your grade, he is not helpful or nice about anything. Whatever you say will be wrong and he will try to give you a life lesson on why your grade is the way it is. The only reason why I did well in this class is because I remember information from my High School Anatomy class.

I really enjoyed listening to him lecture as he loves what he does and makes it interesting. This class is basically a biology class with a minor animal tie. Tests were not too hard and no hw. I would not recommend taking this class in addition to bio 111 as it will be very repetitive and boring. If you just need to fill an animal science requirement i would recommend something like poultry management or meat science. It will be more interesting for you.

Horney has to be one of the most disorganized and unprepared men I have ever met. There were multiple times where he had no idea what was going on or he realized something was messed up, then proceeded to send us home, email us Sunday night, and tell us that the assignment that was supposed to be in class was now going to be due the next day and for us to figure it out on our own. He is a great guy and super nice and approachable, but teaching this lab was really not for him.

He know what he is talking about when it comes to more of the stocker side of the business not as much on the feeder side. there are good labs, but also some boring ones. you will have a quiz every week but they arent too hard and he tells you ahead of time what is on it. there is a lot of standing around at times though in lab especially because my lab was so big. overall he is a pretty easy teacher, real easy to get along with, and you will actually enjoy being in his class even if you have no interest in beef

Dr. Marc is an amazing person and teacher! I loved him! He is so straight forward and clear and very interesting. I had no interest in rangleland management but he made it super interesting. I really did enjoy his class. I am EXTREMELY surprised to see he doesn't have better ratings. Obviously the freshman that reviewed him just don't know what to expect when it comes to college.

Professor Horney or Professor H is the man! He is seriously the friendliest teacher I have had at Cal Poly and is incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable on his topics. The class consisted of 3 midterms, a final, and 2 article reviews. The final was the same size as the other midterms so technically it was just 4 tests. The midterms were straight forward with a given study guide and were completely manageable (easy to get an A) if you study the lectures and your notes. Article reviews were pretty mellow, just make sure you pay attention to structure and grammar. No text required but there are assigned readings on blackboard. Overall, I loved this class and Professor H made it fun.

I have been waiting to write this review all quarter. Dr. Horney is the nicest professor ever. He really cares about his students and genuinely wants people to understand and do well in his class. His study guides are super straightforward and very representative of what will be on the tests. He gives tons of opportunities for extra credit as well. The lab isn't nearly as boring as I thought it would, in fact its a nice way to get some fresh air during the week. Although the material in class is pretty dry, Dr. Horney does his best to make it interesting and keeps it simple and to the point. The awesome thing about Horney is that he is very very smart, but doesn't use that as an excuse to be a dick like a lot of other professors. Instead he is very kind and tries to be as helpful as possible. My grade was definitely borderline and he bumped me up to an A. This guy really makes every effort to be as fair as possible and give students every break he can. TAKE THIS CLASS or any other with Dr. Horney.

Dr. Horney is amazing! His lecture and midterms are based on his PowerPoints and the articles he provide us during class. Some articles are difficult to read but Dr. Horney is super helpful in office hours. He is willing to spend two hours in office to help you understand the articles. He is always available on email and responses to your questions quickly. There are also two papers to type up but only about two pages. LOTS of extra credit opportunities! With Lab, it's confusing because we are not sure what to learn but it's fun to get off campus and enjoy nature once in a while before going back to stressful campus. Lab only had some quizzes (super easy) and a final where we can work in a group with. Take him!!!

Dr. Marc is a very kind and interesting professor with expansive knowledge. ASCI 329 covers a broad range of topics and is a relatively easy class. The quarter began with a lot of assignments, but then the workload eased up a lot. Lectures were based very closely upon the slides and at times a bit disorganized. However, this could be due to the fact that Dr. Marc got very sick halfway through the quarter. If given the opportunity to take a class with him, I recommend it. His tests are multiple choice and he provides study guides beforehand. If you do the study guide and take some time studying it, you should do well.

I've taken principles of range management, the stocker enterprise, and the range enterprise with Dr. Marc. He's a great guy and wants his students to succeed. If you put forth a medium amount of work and do the study guides for his exams they're a piece of cake. He's disorganized, but he knows it. That's the only negative thing I have to say about him as a prof.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
