Chelsea is the sweetest teacher ever. I always look forward to go to class, class is always fun, this class might require a bit more work than other eng 134 classes but your writing actually improves a lot. Go to office hours and hae her revise your essay before you actually turn it into her. The good thing about writing essays is that u can revise it as many times as you want to get a better grade. Overall this class was my favorite class at poly

This teacher is very good when it comes to relating with a younger crowd. She does her absolute best to make the class fun to attend, and is very funny and forgiving when you make a mistake during class discussions or presentations. Her material is presented fairly well, but you'll find yourself looking up a lot of stuff on your own time. Chelsea assigns WAY too much reading that is irrelevant to the course material. One or two readings an evening might be appropriate, but she assigns a lot of side stuff that never comes into play. You HAVE to read it since you have no idea if she will quiz you on it the following day. Also, DON'T miss class! She docks a lot of points if you are absent (not that I ever was, but it's obvious she keeps track on who is present). Her grading style is a little vague. Granted, she has tons of papers to evaluate but a little more feedback than [letter grade here] + [it needs work/too wordy] would definitely help us out. Going to the writing lab or meeting with her is also a pain to revise papers, but she does encourage it and it is very helpful. She is a harsh grader --don't be fooled by her easygoing personality. She has very high standards in writing! OVERALL: a recommended teacher to take. Fun to be around and her class is not terribly difficult. I put that I have a C in the course because I am almost positive that is what it will be. She does not use PolyLearn for grades so knowing what you have in the course is difficult unless you meet with her privately.

I actually disagree with the last evaluation. I think that she gives you a really good chance to get a good grade in the class. She does actually does comment on your papers in the margins and then at the end and if you take it to the writing lab or to her office hours then you can get help making the writing better. I learned a lot in her class and my writing improved. Definitely do revisions! There were only a few readings we didn't talk about because of time. She does push you to become a better writer, but if you are up for the challenge you will get better. Also she is available all the time not just at her office hours.

Chelsea is an amazing professor. She is extremely helpful and doesn't assign much homework. Her essays are easy and she really helps you if you need it. My only complaint was the readings she would assign. They didn't have much to do with the class, but none the less don't let that discourage you from taking the class. I HIGHLY recommend taking her class. I enjoyed it so much I'm taking 145 or 147 with her.

Chelsea was by far my favorite teacher this quarter. She is super relateable and really funny. She makes English, something I have never been good at, fun. I didn't realize how much I was learning until I realized that at the end of her class I could REALLY write. She lets you do as many revisions on essays as you want and always takes the highest grade. The only quizzes she does are on the reading and they're pretty straight-forward. You even watch some videos (Daily Show and Old Spice Commercials!). If you can, take her class. If I have the choice again I know I will!!!

I had her last year. The class was okay, but there was way too much work for a GE. I understand that the English Professors want the students to become better writers and pass the Graduation Writing Exam, but giving a pointless essay a week along with undesirable reading to a majority of students who are engineers is dumbfounding. The engineers came her to learn engineering , i.e. PolyTech, not to take an English class that mimics high school.

Chelsea was the best English teacher I've ever had. She helped me improve my writing so much. She grades hard but you only write four big essays throughout the entire quarter and you can do revisions on them to improve your score. There's no final in this class--just a big essay you have to write. If I could, I'd take her again for 145.

Chelsea has very high expectations for grades (i.e. she gave a majority of us a D/F on our first essay) But, taking her class, you actually improve a lot in writing skills. There are only 4 major writing assignments during the quarter (the fourth one being the final) and she gives opportunities to revise all your essays, so if you get a bad grade on the first draft, you can still improve a lot. She can be a bit intimidating, but she's truly does care about her students and is really funny. One tip would be to do all the reading - there are reading quizzes - and participate in discussions. Also attend class everyday because she marks attendance. I would take her again for english 145 if I could.

Ms.Lynn is a professor with very high standards. Make sure that you go her office hours or use the writing lab to help you write your essays. Listen to her instructions and you will be fine.

WORST TEACHER i have ever had, she will personally attack you for no purpose, she treats you like fourth graders and is extremely boring, i know most who read this will treat this as an outlier in terms of the graph however i can assure you you do not want this professor even if it means taking a class at Cuesta.

The worst teacher I've had at poly so far. Being an engineer, I need to focus my studies on my major classes and my support classes. This class was way to difficult for a gen. ed. to the point where it caused my studies for my other classes to dwindle. She also does not really respect the opinion of anyone in her class. She believes that she is always right when half the time she is wrong. On top of all this, she doesn't know how to spell properly like most of her students. She believes that she needs to fail everyone on their first writing assignment to show them that they need to improve. You could write the next Odyssey and she would fail you. I would highly recommend not taking her, unless you really like english and only want to work on english homework instead of everything else.

Really nice professor, though maybe a bit intimidating. I think she genuinely cares about her students and wants them all to get better at writing; I definitely improved my writing by taking her class. If you have a problem, she will listen and help you. I personally went through a rough patch last quarter and she was willing to listen to me and she also gave me extensions on my work.

Chelsea Lynn is a bit of an oddball. She's like that nerdy girl who spends way too much time on reddit and not enough time talking to actual people. First thing you need to know about this class is that you're going to get a SHIT grade unless you do revisions. Now I'm not talking about changing your thesis or reworking a conclusion here, I mean a substantial revision. Essentially she's making everyone rewrite all of their essays. Expect a D average on all of your first drafts regardless of how good they actually are. I wrote her an A paper for our first draft and she ended up giving me a B- (highest score in the class) which she then took down to a C due to a highly debatable error in MLA formatting. She assigns completely pointless readings that don't teach you anything and then spends the entire class period discussing and explaining why each of the readings are shitty. She never explains assignments and basically points you in a direction and tells you to run and then expects you to meet her myriad of pointless requirements such as but not limited to: Having a folder to put your essay in or she won't take it, having an image and a statement explaining how your image is linked to your paper or you get a zero, having a writers memo in front of all of your essays or you get a zero, any mistaking in citing sources and you get an automatic zero, she'll usually ask for every single paper you've worked on for the past few weeks all on one day without mentioning that you should keep it to begin with. She's been known to wait until after class is dismissed and people have already left to collect homework. But Chelsea Lynn is a worse teacher than that, Miss Lynn has a very exact definition of what is right and good and what is not, if you don't fit her perfect mold you are not a good writer. She completely disregards the writing styles of anyone who does not follow her exact criteria. She's actually being such a bad teacher that she's hindering the progress of young writers when she should be doing her utmost to release the writer within her students. The woman is oppressive. And possibly insane. (You'll understand over time if you get her class.)

Chelsea has some issues, she is bipolar or insane or something. Her mood impacted the class and grades way too much, if she was in a bad mood we'd have a ridiculous quiz and one time we all aced the quiz and she threw it out cause we all did well on it. She rarely gives about a D or C on an essay to force people to revise, when even the writing center says these grades are ridiculous. I don't even know what we did in class every day, I feel like we just sat there till it was over. Also Chelsea does not accept other opinions, its her way or the highway, so you have to do everything how she wants it, we wrote a memoir and she changed my entire story to where it was barely recognizable. Doing the revisions and doing all the work the way she wants it done makes an A not the hard to get.

Probably the worst English teacher I have ever had. I consider myself a fairly good writer, and she failed me on every single essay (which is 70% of your grade). There is almost no homework other than the essays, so if she doesn't like what you've written about in your essay, you're doomed for the class. She lets you revise, but the things she tells you to change are ridiculous: either something very very simple can raise you from a D to an A, or she has you revise your essay to the point where it's no longer your writing or even your experience.

She does not understand that there are people out there with different writing styles. She gives you bad grades on purpose to get you to come in and revise. I would find this helpful, but when you turn in a revision, it just gives her another chance to find all of the errors she didn't see the first time. If you have to take her, I feel bad for you.

I learned a lot from Chelsea. I'm an engineering student but she really took the time to work with me and help me revise my papers. She does expect you to work in this class so don't take it if you were planning on an easy A. She is kinda nerdy but all the good teachers are.

Chelsea was our substitute for two weeks this quarter. I learned more in the two weeks with her than in the entire rest of the quarter with our other teacher. Her lectures are clear and concise and she really breaks down the topics in a way that's easier to understand. My writing has improved in just a couple weeks with Chelsea. And she's also a bit wacky, which keeps the lectures fun!

I had Chelsea as a sub for the last few weeks of class. She is highly INAPPROPRIATE and has a huge lack of integrity. As mentioned in another comment, she is biased and if she doesn't like you or your ideas, you are pretty much screwed. I was berated and bullied by her in front of the class for about 20 minutes straight because my "opinion was wrong." Another student actually had to stop her and stand up for me which is fairly pathetic for her being a grown woman. In the end, I was given a C- on an A+ paper. A paper that I am very, very proud of (that two tutors at the writing center said was brilliant, nicely written, and had innovative ideas). If I had know that my grade wouldn't reflect my paper and that she had absolutely no integrity, I wouldn't have worked my butt off and wasted my time on a paper when I should have focused on my major engineering courses. I've had a lot of bad professors and teachers through high school and Cal Poly but I've never had one act so unprofessional and foolish. I would also like to add that there were several other instances where she was flat out rude to both other students and myself.

Chelsea is a really sweet, knowledgeable professor. Just pay attention in class, visit her office hours when you need to, and put in a fair amount of effort and you'll be fine! I disagree with the negative reviews, especially from the engineers. Sounds like a lot of entitlement going on, because I really didn't think this class or professor was bad at all. I know it's a G.E., but writing is a valuable skill no matter what and Chelsea really helped me improve.

Chelsea was able to advance my writing skills quite proficiently during my time in this class. You will be challenged consistently as a writer no matter what level of proficiency you currently have with writing. That being said, she will be mainly focusing on your improvement for the duration of the course. I came in with little experience writing documents/ essays in high school, but still came out with a B+ as my final grade in this course.

Chelsea was not biased at all. She would argue against people's arguments if the arguments are invalid and/or have no support to them. DO NOT LISTEN to the people who said otherwise. This class consists of 4 main papers and a few other class projects. The projects and papers are not hard however she grades harshly and seems to favor certain students and have very biased views. She comes off rude and unprofessional in class and does not help in office hours (sometimes doesn't even show up). Some classes felt so pointless and she makes you feel like a shitty writer. I would not recommend taking this class if you can avoid it but if you get stuck with it it's not the end of the world you'll just finish with hating her.

I enjoyed having Chelsea as a professor. She's easy-going and likes to joke around. I learned a lot and my writing improved. I succeeded because I worked hard, did the readings, and payed attention in class. I went to office hours a few times and that helped as well. I recommend taking Chelsea's class and I would take another class with her in the future if she teaches another.

Chelsea was very good about presenting the information necessary to write well but was a very harsh grader and assigned a lot of work for a GE. You are able to rewrite most of the papers in her class for a higher grade but its necessary because she fails most people on their first attempt anyways. Because you have to rewrite your papers you will be able to scrape by a passing grade but definitely expect to spend more time on her class than a normal GE because of the rewrites. Your rewrite grade will likely be significantly higher than your original grade was if you simply follow her suggestions so don't freak out if it looks like you are going to fail before you turn in your revisions.

Chelsea is a very nice and funny person and she was my favorite teacher at the beginning of the quarter. Unfortunately, my view of her changed throughout the quarter. I know it is pretty much impossible to have an unbiased English class: Every teacher prefers a different writing style-that's completely natural. However, I felt she was biased against me as a person, not against my writing. Not to toot my own horn but, I am a good writer. I have been told by multiple people that I should go into writing as a profession and yet I received D's and C's on papers I worked extremely hard on. I even revised each essay and went to her for help on them and went to the writing center for help on them. She would even say that my essay looked really good and then would give it a D. That just didn't make sense to me. Overall, I would not suggest her as a professor since it seems she plays favorites so if you are lucky enough to be liked by her you will probably get a good grade but, if not, good luck.

Well, there is 4 main assignments on this class, but each one with many small tasks that she DOES NOT explain clearly, and it is A LOT of work. I worked pretty hard on this class, took tutoring and everything, tutors even said that my texts were pretty good, but YET she is not a fair grader. She may seem friendly at the beginning but shows her true colors later on. DO NOT RECOMMEND, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY for your own good.

Chelsea allows her poor personal life decisions to impact her classroom. She's come to class obviously hungover and possibly high, unless she has a legitimate mood disorder. Moreover, she's a biased grader -- your grade will depend on whether she likes you as a person or not, and she doesn't seem to like many people. Her mood swings are almost unbearable. Dear Cal Poly, I beg you investigate this instructor for the well-being of your students.

Chelsea Lynn has to be the worst professor I have had at Poly. I took this class last year and still have regrets for not reading these ratings. She is extremely bias when it comes to grading and her overall attitude in the classroom is a real problem. I believe I am helping my fellow Cal Poly students by NOT RECOMMENDING THIS CLASS. There are so many other 134 teachers out there that will give you a better experience. You have been warned.
