Thought he was a terrible professor. He has an extremely thick accent which makes it very difficult to understand. Found myself not even paying attention for entire classes sometimes because I couldn't understand him. He assigns things on the hw that he doesn't cover in class. He can be kind of helpful during office hours if you go though. Every quest has 1 question coming from the lab recitations and 1 from the hw. Pretty harsh grader as well. For the 1st lab we asked him if we needed the origin in our graph, he said no, then marked us down for not having it. I got 20% off of 2 different quests for stupid reasons. One I forgot one - sign, another for mixing up sin with cos. Not worth taking 4/20 points in my opinion. Take him at your own risk

I really liked Mitra as a teacher. There are a lot of crappy physics professors out there who know they suck and make no attempt to improve themselves but even though you could tell Mitra was still a little new he improved a lot over the quarter. He does a fairly good job explaining new material to students. I wish he would do more examples and less derivation but he started doing a lot more examples towards the end of the quarter so I think he learned that lesson. He does have a hard time understanding students difficulties in class. I never went to his office hours so I can't comment on his one on one help. In class if a student asks a question he will sometimes cut them off before they finish and about 80% of the time he answers the question. But the other 20% he cuts them off before he understands what they are asking. His quests (quizzes) are fairly straight forward and are usually altered homework or example problems. His mid term was out of left field though. He had a mix of homework problems and a few problems that had weird modifications to them. Basically make sure you can do all the homework and you should be able to deal with the modifications he throws into the problems.

Not a bad physics professor. He tries his best to present the material. He does have an accent, which can be a challenge. He cares about the students. If you have a question do not hesitate to ask. I highly suggest reading the book and going over the lab quizzes before any test/midterm/quest...

This guy is a really sweet man. The problem is I had an impossible time understanding what was going on. And so did the rest of the class. I came out of the class with a B, yet didn't understand almost anything, but the curve was so low I came out alright. For most people, PHYS 133 is one of the last physics classes they have to take so it's not really a big deal (which is true for me) but I still was very very unimpressed with the class. I would avoid this teacher if you want to understand what is going on at all.

I'm not familiar with the other 133 teachers, but if you can I would definitely NOT SUGGEST TAKING MITRA. His accent is near impossible to understand... actually I take that back. It takes a little while to figure out what he is saying which makes comprehending the material extremely tough. For an exam, he told our class that we would have all the time we needed to finish. I took my time on the test and I'm sure others did too but then much to our surprise he collected the tests... I feel like this might have been a language translation/communication error. To most this physics class is harder than the rest and Mitra makes it that much harder. Don't get me wrong, he is a really good guy and a pretty nice and sometimes funny man, but I do would no suggest taking him. If you're just trying to get a C, however, the cut off is 65% and there are no +'s and -'s. This worked to my disadvantage as I ended up with a very high C.

I have mixed feelings about Professor Mitra. First, his accent isn't as bad as some other evaluations make it out to be. I don't think it will really affect your ability to learn in class, but you will notice some mispronunciations. Not a big deal. As for his teaching, it's not fantastic, but it's not terrible. If you're already familiar with the kinematic equations and understand basic trigonometry, this class really isn't that bad and it's fine to take Mitra; it'll serve as a decent physics review and you'll end up with an A or B (there's a fairly significant curve too). If you are at all unfamiliar with kinematics, and aren't confident in your trig abilities, I'd probably try for a different teacher. Professor Mitra will give you lots of information, and throw out a bunch of different examples, but it won't really form into a coherent lesson and you'll probably spend a significant amount of time on your own just trying to piece things together. He is a nice guy though, and will try to help you out the best he can if you ask for help.

this professor\'s accent is very hard to understand and even funny at times. he takes his job very seriously which can be good. some material is not clearly explained or skipped in class but is assigned for homework anyway. homework is assigned mondays and due mondays which is a nice buffer period. claims the first day he is not comical and throughout the year it becomes evident. the class is dry to say the least. however if you listen and try to learn you may learn something

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
