Carole is literally the sweetest woman on Earth. I'd just ask her for extensions on my projects, quizzes and even midterms and she'd just give me an extra week for anything. She seriously cares about her students and will go out of her way to help them out. I had her for a very easy class but regardless she's still the nicest professor I've ever seen. She gets an A+ from me!

Carole is the sweetest professor in the world. Everyone that had her just bonded because of our love for her. She is so helpful and truly cares that you do well. She prints up the notes and you fill them in in class, her office hours are very beneficial and if you're having difficulties, she is very supportive works to help you succeed. I never thought I would genuinely miss a class/professor but Carole made the dreaded Winter quarter much much better and enjoyable. #gocarole

Carole was really very sweet. Math 112 was very easy, easier than all my high school math classes. The only concern I have with her teaching is her projects are a little confusing, she's not very clear about what she expects from them and then waits until the last minute to grade them. Overall easy class with a sweet and funny teacher. I would recommend Carole to others

Carole is the nicest, sweetest teacher at Cal Poly. She takes things very slow and always asks if everyone understands the material. Albeit this was Math 112 (the easiest math at Cal Poly), Carole's class was my favorite because of how positive and accommodating she was.

I’m fairly decent at math but hadn’t taken a math class sense my junior year in high school. That being said I would strongly recommend not taking Carole as a teacher. Her policies are fairly straight forward. The mid terms are based off the weekly quizzes and are pretty fair but her teaching style is terrible. Often times in class she would be unsure of how to work a problem and have to go through and completely redo it. Her office hours weren’t much help either. They were always swarmed with students and she often times had to look in the book to see how to do a problem. After my 1st midterm our class had 11 F and 5 D. The only cool thing she did was to allow us to substitute our final grade for the lower of our 2 midterms. It was the only thing that saved me in this class. Overall, this class was much harder than it should have been because she did not know the material at all.

Carole Simard was my favorite professor for my first quarter of college. She did have a few VERY realist strict policies, like being unable to make up exams (unless there is like a note from a doctor or something). BUT she always was willing to help me succeed. I sat in the front row and asked lots of questions (which she was TOTALLY open to). Get to know her, she is so sweet and really takes the time to help you understand the material. The homework load is pretty manageable (IF and ONLY IF you stay up on it daily otherwise it can be overwhelming). For the final exam she brought us cookies and candy canes. Mrs. Simard is the best!! If you have the chance to take a MATH class with her at Poly, DO IT, you WONT regret it.

Carole is easily the nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. She is so kind that I'm going out of my way to write this anonymous poly rating even though I got a C, because she was that warmhearted. She went above and beyond to recognize student difficulties and always said hi to each individual student that walked into class. I had a very rough quarter healthwise and just in my life, and she was incredibly understanding and always dropped everything to help me in office hours and in class. She cares so much about her students' success and explained concepts very well. Overall, I would recommend her highly.

Carole is so sweet and genuinely cares about her students' success. She's one of the best math teachers I've ever had and I found it easy to get good grades in her class because she presented the information so well.

My low grade was due to the fact that I'm a horrible algebra test-taker. If I had a more difficult teacher, there is no doubt that I would've failed the class. Carole is a sweet little french woman, who prefers to be called Carole by her students. She assigns homework but does not collect it, which led me to not do it. Big mistake, do the homework it'll help so much!!!! It is very difficult to keep up because there are at least 2 chapters covered per 50 minute class. I recommend getting a tutor if you are not string in Precalc algebra. The exams are extremely difficult but I'm sure they'd be manageable if you actually did the homework. You take notes in very nice packets Carole makes for you.

Carole is a very sweet person. If you ask a question during class, she will not move on until you understand. Her lectures are boring, and for notes she has you fill in the packet as she goes through the packet herself. Make sure to do the homework although she does not collect it, because her quizzes and exams are difficult!

She\'s an excellent teacher. Some people find her teaching style a bit confusing, but if you do the homework her class is rather straightforward. She practically tells you what\'s on the exams, and she\'s always really understanding if you had a problem and were unable to complete your work on time. She\'s really down to earth, and one of the nicest teachers I\'ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Just didn\'t teach, she\'s a nice lady, but all we did in class were example problems. She messes up a LOT on the board. At first I liked it because if you correct her mistakes you can get extra points, but it became to the point where I was fed up with all her errors. Thank goodness I took calc in high school because I just didn\'t learn that much. She is a nice lady who means well, oh and don\'t bring food in the classroom. She was really upset when the person behind me did that

Carole is a good teacher for those who have already taken a calculus course. If you have no prior experience with calc, don\'t get teacher. The class is 90% practice problems, there are weekly homework assignments to be completed online and she uses these problems on a lot of her quizzes and tests. She makes a lot of mistakes on the board and also requires more work than is necessary to complete a problem. If you get a problem correct on a quiz, she still deducts points if you skipped a step, forget units, or don\'t simplify your answer (even your work) completely. Searches for the smallest \"errors\" which is very frustrating. She is better one on one than in front of a class.

She really is a good lady. If you are looking for a teacher that will make math fun, then no, she is not a miracle worker. If you want one that will go above and beyond to help you get through the material than I highly recomend her. She actually cares, and that made a difference for me.

Extremely helpful in her office and a very nice prof. She tries to her best to answer her student's questions thoroughly in class too. The pace was a little bit fast, especially because calculus was new to me. Some students complained the class was a bit slow. I thought the homework was very reasonable and covered a large portion of the midterms. Be careful with notation and if you believe you deserve an extra point or two on the exam, see her in her office hours. She is very understanding and does not hesitate to fess up to any errors she may have made during grading, as well as during her lectures. Overall, Carole is a great prof. and is super friendly! She bakes really good cookies, too. And it was extremely kind of her to have a pizza study session before the final. That really shows her dedication to her students!

Carole is a very nice lady. She is very helpful at office hours. However she grades your work VERY strictly on tests, yet often makes mistakes on the same types of problems working them in class. Take her if you already know some calculus, or like show ridiculous amounts of work.

Carole is a professor who truly wants her students to do well. She has a clear layout of how the quarter will go, and she puts an agenda on the board every class period detailing what will be accomplished that day and what will happen throughout the rest of the week. She goes through problems step by step, and will stop to explain something if you don't quite understand it, be sure to ask questions if you have them! Some of the concepts can be difficult, but she is incredibly willing to help you with any questions you may have. Go to her office hours! She will go over homework problems for you or anything else that you may not understand. I had taken calculus 1 before my junior year of high school, but honestly I did not remember much and it was similar to taking the class for the first time. Even though some of the concepts were difficult at times, going to her office hours truly made a difference, and the fact that she is so positive and upbeat all of the time made the class more enjoyable.

I thought Carole was a great professor. She was always kind and amiable each morning. Carole is very organized, she even has an agenda on the board each class and has a printout of her notes for each lecture that she gives to every student in all of her sections. Although she is very particular about how problems should be completed, it is not difficult to follow. Homework is graded based on correctness on selected problems and there is a weekly quiz. Questions that appear on the quizzes, midterms, and final are somewhat similar to the homework problems. If you have questions, never be afraid to ask her because she is very friendly and understanding.

This class is simple if you have taken this course before; however, it may be a little challenging for those who are not familiar with the material. Carole can tend to explain some material in more complex ways than they need to be explained. Despite her occasional complexity, she is an overall great professor. She cares about her students and does want her students to succeed. Homework is graded on completion and correctness. By this, I mean she looks at random problems and if you got one of them incorrect, she will mark you down. The problems she does not grade, she just gives you credit for doing. I suggest you really apply yourself while doing the homework because completing and understanding the homework problems will not only help you in the weekly quizzes, but will improve your understanding of the material. Her exams are not too difficult. If you do your homework and pay attention and study the quizzes, you will do fine on the exams. If she says the exam is "rather simple", do not assume it will be substantially easier than expected. She will still put challenging problems on the exams so prepare yourself well. A little tip: Avoid procrastinating on the homework! A lot of homework problems can be time consuming and tedious and she may assign more work than it seems. Do a little bit everyday rather than all of it the night before it is due.

Carole did something most professors don't do and that is she makes notes for you, you just have to write the work for the problems she does which helps to keep things more organized. Her weekly quizzes could be quite challenging at times and other times could be pretty simple. If you take Carole just make sure to study well and know how to do even the tough problems. Also, she is very understanding if you are sick or something came up to where you could not make class

Do you know Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter? Nice and sweet on the outside, but very...deranged inside? I felt like this was Carole. Carole is so sweet, and is sometimes too hard on herself. On the first day, she tells us how English isn't her first language (French is), and how she's sorry for her accent. Aww. Then she tells us how she only has a Masters and not a PhD. Aww again. However, her quizzes and tests were not consistent. For example, on one quiz, most of us would get 25/25, then she'd make the next quiz super extra hard, and we'd fail or not do as well. The good (and bad for some), is that her quizzes were very long and tried to cover all the types of problems IN A CHAPTER. So they were like, chapter tests. Good in the sense that you wouldn't have to guess what would be on the quiz. Bad because you'd be f***d if you were a slow quiz taker, since she'd only gave us like 25 mins to do it. The thing that would bug me was her apparent awe that we were taking so long. True, she did present the material rather well. Yes, she did go slow throughout the quarter (2-3 weeks per chapter). However, she crammed a whole chapter on the last week of school for falling behind for being slow, and that was the majority of the final. WTF. Dropped my grade down the toilet. Ugh. Idk. Like I said, Umbridge. She needs to get back on earth. I did learn a lot, though.

OKAY YES I GOT AN F IN THE CLASS BUT I LOVE CAROLE AND SHE WAS SO HELPFUL. She will help you one on one until you understand. Even if it's after her office hours she will help you as long as you are trying. She understands that calc isn't the easiest thing in the world especially since we are in a big transition period. She goes a little too fast at times during class and its easy to get lost. She follows a schedule which is awesome. Tests are really hard and she chooses the hardest possible questions so be prepared.

Simard was a chiller. She was honestly one of the most helpful and flexible professors I've had. She just chooses the most difficult questions for each test. You have quizzes every thursday, but no homework due ever. The final was impossible and the midterms were doable. You gotta put time into her course but I am walking out feeling like i know everything, and i'll retain it.

If you have never taken Calculus before, get out! Carole is so sweet and wonderful and her personality tops all, but she can get very confusing and often has no clue what she is even teaching herself. If you have taken Calc before, it will be a review class but I would not suggest someone going straight into calc for the first time to take her.

Carole is very sweet and cares for the education of all of her students. She wants to hear from you in class. Coming directly from not passing this class, I was worried and fearful, but she helped lighten my guilt by taking the time to explain and answer questions which my last professor did not do very well. Her quizzes were pretty straight forward with only a few twists. The flipped lessons for me were the worst part of the class and it showed on my midterms and finals. But for the content taught in class, I felt comfortable with those problems on the tests. My grade dropped to a C+ after the final which made me wish homework was assigned for a grade during the quarter. Overall, however, she presented the material well.

Carole could arguably be my favorite professor I've had at Cal Poly. I've never felt compelled to write a PolyRating until now, strictly because I have never experienced a teacher like Carole. She is the sweetest lady who (if you happen to be 5 min late), will quietly hand you the printed up notes for the class period and welcome you to class. Homework is extra credit and actually bumped me up to an A, and the quizzes and tests come strait from the easy homework problems. She is a teacher who truly cares about your individual performance and knew my name within the first two weeks! During finals week, she held a review session for everyone and even ordered pizza and salad. Oh yeah and she made us cookies on the day of the final. Do EVERYTHING you can to take math with Carole... You won't regret it.

Carole's class is fairly the same everyday. You have weekly homework assignments and a quiz. You come into class, and she has these notes that are neatly organized. You just have to fill in the blanks. This class was hard for me personally because it was my first time taking Calc. Carole goes through the material fairly quickly and I didn't have much time to soak in the material. I really had to review before every quiz and test. Carole doesn't exactly take into consideration how students may be struggling either. Sure, during class, she pauses to make sure everyone has taken down the notes, and she asks if we have questions, but if her midterms are already formatted and printed out, she will not pity the class even if they are having difficulty in that topic. I got A's on a lot of quizzes, and all my homework assignments, but bombed nearly every midterm. She was nice enough to see that we were having difficulty, and she replaced our lowest midterm with our final if we scored higher.

She is so welcoming, warm, and in-tune with her students! She always brightens up my evening, especially because let's be honest bus calc isn't the most exciting class. She is,also, very accommodating. All in all, she truly wants her students to do well, and it's very very obvious in the way she teaches that she genuinely wants to help us learn and better ourselves. 100 PERCENT recommend taking her class, if you get the chance! You will enjoy it and be successful ( as long as you do all the homework and study, of course! showing up to class will not simply guarantee you will do well!

Carole is extremely sweet and attentive to her students' needs. I don't think it is possible to hate her. If you have taken calculus, this class will be a breeze. But I hadn't and I really struggled with two big parts of the class, related rates and optimization, and that kind of fucked me over. Part of that was Carole didn't really explain it well and the other part was I didn't do enough studying on my end (sorry, spring quarter was a lot of fun). Often times I didn't really understand what was going on in class but was able to clarify later by reading the textbook and doing homework. Also, do your concept questions! I never did and when it came to exam time, I was always worried about that. She puts a hefty amount of true/false on the 2 midterms and the final and they are actually pretty hard. The class is also based solely on tests and quizzes (10% mini quiz, 25% quizzes, 35% midterms, and 25% final)
