I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!

Professor Neill is an amazing teacher. I have not had such a great teacher who was willing to work with his students and be charismatic at the same time. He is overflowing with wit and personality and his style of teaching imparts the knowledge onto the class very easily. I commend Prof. Neill and also Cal Poly for having the insight to hire him. I am not a marketing student but he is one of my favorite teachers at this University.

Professor Neill is super cool, he talks to himself and expresses the info very clearly. He thinks he is very funny, but really you ae just laughing at him. Take him hes legit and the class gets you a glimpse of marketing. The project is not that bad and spaced out throughout the quarter.

That\'s a B+ by the way, and the only reason I didn\'t get an A was because I got a bit dragged down by the group project. Other than that, Professor Neill is awesome! Presents all the material VERY clearly, the examples he gives are perfect and relevant. You don\'t really need the book except to look up terms to fill out his study guide, which is basically what\'s all on the test. I definitely feel I have a much better insight into marketing after taking this class even though I\'m not a marketing concentration. Be warned though, he is quite goofy but it definitely makes for a bearable lecture. Neill is the man.

Dr. Neill tries to charm you and make you think he's a great teacher. In reality, he carries unreal expectations for your quarter's workload. If you took his class alone (and no others) you'd be lucky to achieve an A. His expectations are unclear. Every week you'll spend your 35 hours on this class alone. He also uses students to achieve his pet projects for himself and friends. Avoid Dr. Neill at all costs!

I LOVE this guy. He is goofy and funny but totally makes the class bearable. I had him for an 8 am class, which i assumed I would miss like 50% of the lectures and so far (8th week) I haven't missed any. I really like him. There is no midterm, no final, one paper and a few group projects (and you learn ALOT!)

A totally chill guy. Explained how the class was structured and what you need to do from the very start. No tests or quizes. You have individual and team assignments and a presentation. He assigns groups so hopefully you get put with a hot chick. He also makes a bunch of jokes which adds to a laid-back environment. Take him and shut the fuck up.

Dr. Neill is by far one of the best professors I\'ve had at Poly. The class consists of a client based project, team assignments, and individual assignments. There are no tests or papers! The course load at times seems quite heavy but if you put the time into it it will be worth it. Dr. Neill is very laid back and approachable, he\'s eager to help and you can tell he cares about his students. Overall it was an awesome class and I would jump at the chance to have him again.

Great class. The whole thing is group work. You do individual assignments, but they become part of your group work. A lot of the group work is time consuming but he gives you a lot of class time to work on it. Absolutely, no tests, your final is a group presentation. The assignments are relevant to the real world and are actually pretty fun. You work directly with an actual client to solve some type of problem that exist within their organization. If you have any questions about the assignments ask him!! He gives great feedback that will help your grade. Tries to be funny to keep lectures exciting, I laughed a few times...

Professor Neill is AWESOME! He is absolutely hilarious and very quirky. His classes are pretty laid back and easy going. He is a pretty harsh grader, but if you are detailed and organized in your work you\'ll be fine. Group work is very important in this classes because there are no midterms or a final. The groups are assigned so just make sure everyone is on top of their game and you all will get a good grade. He is very approachable, so if you have any problems or concerns feel free to just go talk to him about anything.

Dr. Neill is a great professor and the curriculum for the course is just as good. The class is definitely difficult and extremely TIME-CONSUMING! Through out the quarter you work with a client, this quarter was with Campus Dining, and conduct research and establish a project. There\'s secondary research, observation, interviews, focus groups and questionnaires all of which come with an individual assignment and a team assignment. The final group project is everything put together and is about 90 pages plus a presentation. So you better like your teammates because you\'ll be spending a lot of time with them. It\'s a pain of a class, but rewarding and valuable overall. And Dr. Neill is a great professor, and willing to help out. He\'s definitely one of the better professors Ive had at Poly. I highly recommend this course.

Dr. Neill is a great professor. His course is based on both individual and group assignments which culminate in a 90 page group paper and presentation. This sounds pretty ominous and though it is quite a bit of work, it\'s extremely fulfilling. He has the class work with actual clients (we worked with the OCOB Advising Center) and develop recommendations to improve their service. These are based on secondary research, observations, interviews, and focus groups that you will perform. The only reason I didn\'t get an A in this class is because I slacked on the weekly blog posts he requires. Follow his rubrics and you will do well. All in all, I definitely recommend Neill for this class, don\'t pass him up.

Neill is amazing. He is hilarious and really knows how to connect with students. The structure of the class was organized and enjoyable. You do 4 individual assignments that then work toward your 5 team assignments. The team assignments are compiled into a final recommendation for a client he has chosen for the quarter (we did the marketing department). I thoroughly enjoyed this class and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you take Neill if you want to have a good time while learning all about the customer. He doesn't hold students accountable for the readings, but I did them all and they are really interesting and insightful...they also are good topics for the blogs which you must submit each week. Overall, awesome class. You won't regret taking Neill!

Stern is an awesome professor and anyone at Poly should be happy he is a representative of our college. He presents the material in a very easy way to understand. There are no tests, just one group project that you work on all quarter by doing individual and team assignments every other week.

I definitely would recommend Professor Neill. I enjoyed taking this course and learned a lot of real applications. A real client presents us with a problem and it's our job to investigate solutions through interviews, secondary research, general observations, focus groups, and more. At the conclusion of the class, a giant report of you and your groups findings come together for a recommendation to the client, as well as presenting to them and the class. It's actually pretty impressive when it all comes together and may be useful as a portfolio plus ;) Professor Neill is easy to approach with questions and clarifies any student difficulties. He also extended a few deadlines which was nice.

Dr. Stern is the man. His class is fairly easy and you will leave learning a great deal of information. You can guarantee yourself an A if you just follow the RUBRIC. Almost everyone that I knew in the class got an A. There is basically three parts to the course; weekly journals from your assigned reading (easy), individual assignments (fairly easy), and group assignments (hope you get a good group). There are no tests, quizzes,or finals. You will spend a great deal of time out in the field doing hands on. Make sure you and your group work well together and be ready to spend hours and hours working together. Highly recommend this class. Oh and Dr. Neil makes a lot of awkward jokes which keeps the class laughing during his lectures.

Listening to the Customer with Dr. Neill is an awesome class. It reinforced my decision to be a marketing concentration. This class is not easy if you want to get an A. He gives out hefty assignments every week that are usually due on Sundays. DON'T wait til Sunday to start them! I once worked from 1pm until 11pm straight on a Sunday doing stuff for this class. He is a very tough grader, just satisfying the rubric is the minimum that you need to to do to do well. He likes lots of visuals so be sure to make a lot of them in your reports. He is a good teacher overall and helped me to learn a lot. Most of the time you are working with your group. The whole quarter you work on a market research project for a company. Although he is sometimes hard to please, he gives out lots of extra credit. The extra credit helped bump my grade from a B+ to an A-. Make sure to take advantage of every single opportunity and show up to every single class even if its optional. The readings he assigns are interesting. There are no tests, its a project based class. If your group members are lousy, be prepared to do a lot of work to make up for it. Be as meticulous as you can and pay close attention to details in your assignments because he sure will when grading them. I recommend this class to any business major!

Dr. Neill is a great professor. His class is all group project, the entire quarter. It is definitely a large workload and is a lot of writing and analysis. You learn a lot though and get some great hands-on experience. My only complaint is the workload, but as a teacher, he is an awesome guy. Pretty funny and easy to talk to and always looking to help the students learn more

Dr. Neill is great! He's corky, funny, personable, and engaging. He goofs around a bit, but he is also very serious about the quality of his course and the quality of our work as students. This class is a big commitment, but also pretty fun. It's sort of the best of everything. Take Dr. Neill!

For the entire quarter, you work on a research project with a team. The topic for each quarter is usually different; ours was Campus Dining. You'll have a client, and you and your team will have to do extensive research to understand the background of the issue, etc. You have individual and team assignments. Your team assignments are worth more than individual assignments, but you have more individual assignments. I'm gonna go in detail with you: Neill gives incredibly vague rubrics, so in order to get a solid A, you have to go above and beyond. On his rubric, there are six main categories: failing, poor, satisfactory, good, excellent and perfection. Excellent is 90% and Perfection is 100%. He usually has examples of "A/A-" work for each assignment...so I highly recommend organizing your assignments like the examples. Though he says, "No, don't worry about doing that too..." or, "it's ok if you don't do that; it's optional," don't listen to him. Do every additional component you can. If you have time to color code something, do it. If you can write another paragraph, do it. The key to this class is to go above and beyond. You won't believe what people will do on each assignment. Do not do the bare minimum if you want to get an A. I'm a complete try-hard, and I found this course to be painful. I worked incredibly hard, spent at least 7-10 hours on each assignment and finally got an A in the class. Take this class if you're truly interested in Marketing. Don't take this if you want an easy elective, because this class is the complete opposite.

Literally love professor Neill. He is so upbeat and happy and really knows the material well. The majority of classwork is group work, so you don't have too many assignments due. He does grade pretty tough though. No midterms, no quizzes. The final is a debriefing session.. 10/10 would recommend.
