nice lady but this class has WAY too much work for a 100 level class. 2 fat papers and a shit ton of reading every week will make you hate the class. i know a lot of people wanted to change their majors after taking this intro to history.

Molly Loberg is a pretty decent professor. Pretty much all of her lectures are powerpoint. She is nice, but expects a lot from her students, and there is a ton of reading for a 100 level course. Text book reading, document book reading, blackboard readings, Plato's republic, and The Prince. Quizzes once a week, midterm and final which are both blue book essay. She grades kinda tough, but she offers extra credit to boost your attendance/participation grade. One piece of advice, when writing your essays for the midterm and final, REMEMBER A THESIS. She is all about the thesis. If you make a strong thesis, then your golden, if not, well good luck.

The class had a lot of reading, there is text book reading and at least one or two document readings every week. There is a quiz every week based on the document readings, so yes,do the readings. There is also a midterm and a final, both consist of essays and identifications. The class is a lot of work and at times the reading can seem overwhelming, but Loberg is really nice and seems to genuinely care about students. She really encourages students to come to her office hours and going to her office hours can literally be the difference betwen an A and a B. She also drops your lowest quiz score and offers extra credit.

Dr. Loberg is so cool! She even lets you visit her after the quarter is over! Take the class, it was really interesting. I really enjoyed learning about early Christianity, that was the coolest part of the class. Loberg\'s brilliant too (she got her phd from Princeton!)

Man o\' Man was this class boring. History 110 might be one of the worst survey courses at cal poly. Not only was it strenuous to remain awake in this class, it was more painful than high school history. Professor Loberg does nothing to make this class interesting. This survey is course too expansive for one class. This forces you to learn in bullet points rather than providing a comprehensive understanding of the material. Supposedly there is a unifying theme tying the evolution of western civilization to seemingly unconnected evets in History. This concept is only understood with artistic liberties and some very strong smelling slats. Loberg\'s lectures are done by power point and recap the reading in a denser version. Normally this would not be a problem but the incorporation of a large amount of primary source reading along with the textbook readings are discussed in class so your kinda forced to go. Unfortunately the source readings are a bunch of dry historical accounts written in cryptic English and are often worthless ramblings. It is obvious that Loberg does not enjoy lecturing. She relies on heavily structured power points and meaningless documentaries to fill the 50 minutes. She was most likely hired as a bookworm researcher to teach low division courses and publish esoteric articles about pre war Germany(True fact). It is very apparent that Loberg has a large chip on her shoulder like many other recently hired female academics. Her over ambition leads her to try to incorporate feminist ideas into a low level history class. However her idea of feminism is not altruistic, but a self serving ploy to convince herself that she is as qualified as her male counter parts. This low self esteem leads her susceptible to praise by the few History geeks in the class who tend to do well on the tests and dominate the discussion with nasally opinions. I know this a pretty low thing to say but i\'m just calling it like i see it. To her credit she makes herself very available to the students of the class. And depending on how often you cite primary sources, a pretty fair grader. The class is not very hard but requires a lot of self deprecation to force yourself to study this material. It may seem like im enacting some petty revenge for receiving a C in the class, but in reality i am just a highly critical individual who could\'ve gotten an A if i wasn\'t such a pothead. I would say that my biggest qualm is not with Loberg, but rather this ill-conceived idea of a class. I honestly don\'t think any professor at cal poly could have made this class interesting for me. However, if your idea of a good time is regurgitating other peoples ideas then good luck with History 110!

This is an interesting course and good instructor. You\'ll learn a lot from the readings and her lectures, covering between ancient time and Martin Luther. Yeah, it\'s challenging. But so what? That\'s what you\'re paying for, right? To get educated. I worked hard for my B in the class and am happy with the amount I learned. I even impressed my parents with information about love and death in the middle ages. This class is well worth your time and effort.

I took Professor Loberg 2 quarters in a row, for hist110, and hist111. I am not a history major. In fact, I honestly HATE history. However Professor Loberg was the very first history teacher to inspire me to actually somewhat find history interesting. Loberg is extremely passionate about what she teaches. Not only does she care about the material she is presenting, but she honestly cares that her students understand the material. She gets excited when students come to office hours to discuss the material, or to go over midterms/quizzes. Sure, the class is a lot of work and definitely takes a lot of time to study for, but looking back it was worth it. History is such a boring subject to me that usually i forget what i just learned, however Loberg taught it well, and I still remember stuff I learned 2 quarters ago. Here are some tips to do well in the class: 1) Do the readings! There are weekly quizzes on the primary sources. Read all of them. She will give you a choice of 2 or 3 essay questions to write on, but dont let the word essay scare you. Basically all you need to do well on it is to have a specific and detailed thesis. The rest of the essay can be B.S. as long as your thesis is strong. 2) Don't worry about the textbook reading. I didnt read it at all. The only time i opened it was to help me define a few words for the midterm/final study guide. 3) Go to class. In her powerpoints she sometimes shows pictures of primary sources such as art or a photograph that can be used in the essays for the midterm or final. These are important because basically your whole grade for the midterm/final is your thesis, and use of primary sources. 4)The midterm/final consist of ID's (words that need to be defined in a paragraph or 2), and an essay. All of this is given to you a week or so before the test. I would recommend making a thesis for each essay choice ahead of time, since that is the majority of the essay grade, and choosing which primary sources to discuss in each essay. There really isnt a need to research every ID extensively. It is fairly easy to cover a bunch of ID's at once because some are specific, and some are broad that cover all the specifics in it. 5) Go to her Backstage Pizza study sesh before the midterm/final! She lets everyone who goes vote on their favorite IDs and essays to be put on the test. Here you can get a good idea of what to study right before the test. 6) Dont fret about her grading. She is completely fair. She isnt looking to take points away, she is looking to give points out. She genuinely has the student's best interest in mind. 7) Do the extra credit! There are a lot of extra credit opportunities that definitely help! Overall, I would definitely recommend taking Loberg as your HIST110 or 111 professor....and this is coming from someone who's least favorite subject is history!

Take this class seriously or it will seriously take you down. Just advice if you want an A. You can kiss spending the whole weekend partying goodbye if you want a good grade. Its almost impossible to get a perfect quiz score. That being said she seems to be a fantastic person... she is a very good teacher... just keep in mind this will be one of the hardest classes you can find in the liberal arts department. huge draw back: she has designed it to where an A is out of reach for the most part. And the little extra credit she gives only goes toward 10% of your grade. I'm frustrated cause I put 3 times more effort into this class than any of my other 4 decently hard ones and still don't get a good grade. All in all fantastic, nice, and interesting teacher. Just know what you are getting into.

OK..... HOW TO EXPLAIN LOBERG. She is a really really intelligent woman who knows her stuff after getting an undergrad degree and PhD from Princeton. When it comes to the class, she is very straightforward about her teaching and puts lecture outlines that are really helpful when taking notes because it keeps you on track and organized. What I didn't like about her, is the fact that she is very unsympathetic towards students and seems to be looking down on us in certain ways. Also, this class is in NO MEANS an easy A. It takes a lot of work, but if you just stay on track and go to class and read the weekly assignments you'll do fine. She can be a very unfair grader as well in my opinion. But the content is semi-interesting which is better than being horribly boring.

Considering i absolutely hate history, Loberg made it interesting. She is very informed on the subject and you can tell she really knows her stuff. But the class is extremely difficult to get used to. The quizzes, midterm and final are essay based. There are no multiple choice tests, which could be a good thing for some people. Go to her office hours and she will tell you how to improve your quiz grades. The worst mistake I ever made in this class was writing the notes instead of typing them. She gives A LOT of information in one class period and talks pretty fast, so if you want to do well on her quizzes, midterm, and final, i suggest bringing your laptop to lecture.

Professor Loberg is by far one of the best professors I've had so far at Cal Poly. She is interesting, relatable, and has lots of insight and experience in terms of history, especially for those who are interested in European history or particularly Germany, which is her field of study. She is super nice and always willing to help students out, especially when it comes to writing thesis statements or advice on how to formulate your arguments for her quizzes. The class is by no means easy, you will have to work very hard to achieve good grades, but a B is by far not out of the question. A's are pretty hard to achieve, but I'm sure if you were super dedicated to the class and worked very very hard you could get one. She likes to get to know students and remembers names well. She also has great powerpoints, often starting with a primary source such as a song or a piece of artwork to get creativity involved with her lecture. I would recommend her to anyone, whether a history major or not, because she will by far make you learn the most and you will appreciate the knowledge you gain!

Oh Molly. Loberg is a great professor, along with most of the History Dept. Molly conveys the material in a straight-forward, effective manner. She is extremely intelligent, kind, friendly, and a joy to talk to in and out of class. Although her lectures can appear dry at times, she has very valid, academically stimulating points. This class is very straight forward, 10% participation, 25% midterm 25% final and 15% weekly quizzes. The quizzes aren't too difficult, just make sure you make your points clear and concise. The midterm and Final she gives you a study guide of exactly what's on it, so that is very helpful. Most likely Molly will improve your academic writing greatly, and you'll have an in depth look at a time period that is not studied as throughly. This class is a easy B and easy enough A just study dates, she likes dates in your essays. Anyway, I recommend her as a Professor, and a great person to talk to.

Loberg is extremely knowledgable on the subject matter and very helpful during office hours! I went every week to go over my quizzes and she gave good constrictive criticism to improve my writing. She's a nice person to talk to in general and I think she appreciates students who take control of their academics and show they're putting in a lot of effort. All quizzes/1 midterm/final are essays. At the end, she drops your lowest quiz grade. The midterm and final are straight off the study guide. This class had A LOT of reading both from the book and a ton of primary source documents - which can be expected in a history class - but for the weekly quizzes people (including me) got their best score when they skipped reading any of the documents...so I mean it's not the end of the world if you don't complete them just concentrate on making a strong, arguable thesis and have dates in your writing. The only thing I didn't like about her was that she didn't seem very open-minded to students' ideas if they were not from HER perspective. Also I didn't like that we had a participation grade, however there are a lot of extra credit essays you can do to make up that grade it you don't like speaking in class. Overall, it was a pleasure having Professor Loberg.

Loberg is not an easy professor, but she is absolutely incredible. She makes you truly learn the material and somehow manages to make ancient history extremely interesting. Loberg makes you question what you are thinking and shows you a whole new form of writing and learning. You have to work in her class and really study- every quiz and test matter. She is always open to questions and it really helpful when you go in during office hours. I would highly recommend her as a professor!

Loberg in 110 was a pretty good teacher. Her lectures get a little confusing because she structures them like an argumentative essay and jumps around a bit. Just pay attention to the beginning of the lecture and write down what she says her main points/claims will be and focus on taking detailed notes for that. There's a LOT of reading. But it is a history class and I didn't mind it with my being a history major. You probably don't need to read all the textbook chapters. Just refer to it when the study guides come out and if you need historical context for a primary source. Just study the primary sources well and go to class. She also loves participation, so don't be afraid to speak up. I think she genuinely likes teaching and wants her students to succeed and understand the material. Her office hours were also super helpful. She'll tell you whats up with your quizzes and spruce up your writing. She loves herself a strong and unique argumentative thesis.

Dr. Loberg is an amazing professor. She brings enthusiasm and energy to her lectures and is very approachable in office hours. She clearly has a lot of knowledge to share and a passion for history which are evident through her lectures. This class is difficult, there are copious notes, the tests are long (and 100% written) and the reading is extensive. If you are a fan of history, this class is awesome. If you're not a fan, you'll learn a lot anyways.

I am only half way through this class, but it is already clear that Loberg loves History way too much to be teaching a 100 level class. Sure, it's good that she is passionate about the subject, so I'm sure anyone else who is as well will love it. But I'm Political Science, and I'm taking this class because I have to. It's HIST 111, so although I don't expect ANYTHING at Cal Poly to be easy, I WOULD expect this class to be easier than, say, all my other 300 level classes....wrong. Loberg has already assigned a ton of reading, and we've read two BOOKS already (not including the textbook). She likes to lecture and tell you a story about someone from the time period, and unfortunately, does not mention anything from the textbook reading. Her study guide for the final is ridiculous and I have never had to do so much work for a class in my life. Example: she has given us 40 words, all of which we have to define (with at least a paragraph long explanation). For the test, she is only going to use 6, of which we choose 3. WTF! I go to class every day and do all the reading and then she asks this on top of everything. I needed to get this out before I continue studying because this woman is ruining what would be a great quarter for me. She doesn't understand the concept of "overkill" And one last thing, like other students have mentioned, she sounds scared to death every time she speaks in front of the class. I thought the voice tremble would go away, but she continues to do it to this day. It's really obnoxious.

Dr. Loberg is easily one of the best professors with whom I have taken class. While she pushes her students and expects their best work, she does so only with their best interests in mind. Yes, there is a good amount of reading and conceptual information. It's a history class... what did you expect? History isn't the memorization of facts and dates, and I can guarantee you will not do well if you take the class with this expectation. Dr. Loberg indeed loves history, and any student who takes her class is lucky to have a professor who cares so much. She is easy to talk to and will help as best she can in office hours, which, to me, is not a characteristic of a person who has a "chip on her shoulder." ALL history professors are hired partially because their research is valuable to the department, and while I'm sure this is the case with Dr. Loberg, she is also an amazing teacher. If you have a problem with female authority figures who attempt to teach stuck-up students a brief, unbiased look at feminist themes in history, then yeah, you probably won't like her. Also, if you sit in the corner on your laptop during one of her 400 level classes and never participate, you'll probably have a hard time getting an A and will probably feel like scholasticism is being fazed out of the humanities. For her 110 and 111 classes, just keep up with the reading, attend class, and give yourself plenty of time to complete the study guide. You'll be just fine. For her 400 level classes, again, keep up with the reading and participate in class. Good luck!

You can really tell that Loberg loves History, and has a passion for teaching (which is something that's really important to me). Her classes are only 50 minutes and they go by SO fast. But, the whole class is lecture. If you're bad at note taking and can't stay up to speed, then this isn't the class for you. There's a quiz every week that's on the reading, and it's a "interpretation" of history class. I liked it, but spent a lot of my time on this class.

Professor Loberg is an incredible lecturer and really knows her stuff. She is incredibly organized during class and takes an interesting approach to history rather than just throwing out dates and battles. She really goes deep into significance. That being said, her lectures go by fast and good note-taking is a must. The textbook is not necessary to read, let alone buy. The important texts are the primary sources that she posts on blackboard. There is a quiz every week on the primary sources and you really have to think hard in a short amount of time (~10 minutes to write a provoking response). She's big on theses - make sure yours is good and the rest will follow. Fair grader. Midterms and finals are tough, make sure to study with history majors and go to her backstage sessions. Definitely recommend her as a teacher, you will get a lot from this class.

I've taken Loberg for both HIST 110 and 111, and have the same concern for both classes: while she's a great lecturer, her introductions at the start of each class about the material we'll be covering that day are often longer than the actual content. Because her lectures are so structured, she has limited time to make sure students are learning because her main concern is fitting her "speech" into the allotted hour of class. As far as content she is great. There is really so much to cover, and she's done a good job of fitting everything into a ten week period.

Loberg is hands down one of the best History Professors on campus here at Cal Poly. I came into my major with the intention of changing to English, however Professor Loberg completely changed my perspective. She is really really nice, and a good teacher who cares about her students and is available for questions all the time. What makes her an average grade as a professor though is how hard her class/grading is. I know 303 is ridiculous for all professors, but her scale for comparison when grading your papers is the professional essays you read for the class. Very high standards. So, whats important/why youre reading this evaluation: she is nice, but gives a ton of work and grades stiff. All her classes take up a lot of time.

Loberg is very smart and will help you a lot with your writing in this class. However, she grades pretty harshly. Plus, there is an endless amount of reading and writing for this class. It's almost impossible to actually read all of it, so you have to get good at skimming. The writing assignments throughout the quarter help you in the long run as you try to write your paper at the end of the quarter, but they basically take over your whole life. One nice thing about the class is that there are no quizzes. You just discuss the readings for class and sometimes turn in an assessment of the readings. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH MORE THAN 13 UNITS. seriously. Overall, I'm glad I took it because I learned a lot and my writing improved, but it is definitely a difficult and time consuming class.

This was her first time teaching the class so this class will only be improved from this quarter. Dr. Loberg is an enjoyable professor and I looked forward to her class. History is not a subject I typically enjoy but she makes it interesting. The whole grade was 25% participation and 75% divided evenly to 3 essays. She even lets you write 4 and she takes the best 3 grades. She gives good tips in office hours (I highly recommend going) and grades the essays fairly. I haven't taken many history classes but I was surprised the lecture material was never tested. You should still kinda take notes because you can cite her in your essays but it makes the class much more relaxed. Getting an A is hard but a B is totally doable without a ton of work.

Wow, what an amazing professor! She is so personable and animated and really got to know each of us (30 students). Our grade was based off of 3 essays and participation, but since the content was so interesting, part of me wishes that there was something else, like content quizzes or something, since the essays aren't my strongest suit. Definitely an easy B, but if you work hard and actually take the time to revise/construct your essays, an A is definitely doable. (Side note: in the hallway, I heard a guy in my class talking to his friend about how excited he was to go to class. That's how cool she is)

Dr. Loberg is an incredible woman. She is so understanding and helpful if you take advantage of her office hours and ask questions. You could be weeks behind in readings and homework but if you're honest with her about it she will give you the quickest way to get back on track and help you save your grade. One thing to be aware of with Loberg is that she is not an easy grader. My average grades on assignments with her range from 75-85% but I always take classes with her when I can just because I think she is an absolute doll. Also, she takes participation very seriously for her classes so that is a really easy way to make up for less than perfect grades on class assignments. Do not take her classes if you're looking for an easy A, take them because they're interesting.

Where to start with Loberg? That is the question to ask! First, to do not let her nice personality fool you, she is a wolf in sheep’s clothes. Second, the women hates to lecture! You can hear the the utter terror in her voice from the fear of public speaking. She makes students teach class while never giving a worth while lecture. The few times she does gives lecture they are brilliant, but do not kid your self, they never happen. Thirdly, forget about writing a suitable paper for her class. The women gets off on criticism like some postmodern junky that she is, in the dying world of history. However, Loberg is just the symptom of a problem at Cal Poly’s History department. The real problem is that scholasticism is being phased out for the humanities. All the new tenure track hires have been mostly women with obscure backgrounds in some useless postmodern framework of degree. If you are a white rich male then do not even think about taking one of their classes. They are also all geared in research not in teaching which makes them about useless for teaching. My advice take a class with some old bald dude with tenure they tend to be the best teachers.
