I heard all of the stuff about guillermo and his "brainwashing" but that is complete b.s. He is not the one trying to brainwash you, he is trying to free you, free your mind. His projects sometimes seem unclear but they unfold with the critical thinking process. He talks to you personally and gives you that extra push in the right direction. He's willing to stay till the wee hours of the morning to help you and lighten the ambiance in teh studio. Don't get me wrong, be prepared to spend A LOT of time in studio, but it's completely worth it if you're serious about architecture. The hours seem to fly by and you get into your projects. There is no greater feeling than hering guillermo tell you he likes your project especially when he didn't have any input in it and you did it all yourself. He treats you like a second year college student and doesn't try to baby you. He is awesome, although it may not seem like it at times, but in the end, you will agree with me.

wow, I must say Cal Poly lost one of the best professors, who now is in Berlin. There are two kinds of people. Who hated Guillermo because he made you think, made you read, and made you to be honest. And they are others who appreciated him because of his sincere and geniune input about your project. I know that there are many other students who just want to hear someone say "good job." But I think harsh as the reality society is, it is better to get real feedback from a professor who cares. Honestly, I dont think people should talk shit about him if they just heard it from the friends. You should experience it. I never had a professor who would critic the project until 2 o'clock in the morning, and cared to buy Chinese food, dohnuts and pizzas, not just the final's week, but whenever he sees that students are working hard until the late evening. I think it's really up to the person how they want to spend their life. Keep living in a b.s world, or at least try to see the truth.

guillermo is awesome. he is now in germany but rumor has it that hes cpming back and will teach a thesis studio. if this is true take him, he will work your ass off, but you will feel that every project and every step made you grow intellectually and professinally. forget howard or art or donna or the rest. they are tenured and do not care about students. no matter what evaluation you give them they will not improve becuase their happy going through the motions quarter after quarter, can't be fired. if guillermo comes back to second year it will be worht the work. people keep saying that he was arrogant and only cared about himself. wrong! he was the most helpful teacher i have ever had, and really cared for the school. just my opinion.

you cant compare guilermo to anybody in this school. no matter how many "best teacher awards" they give each other the old guard at poly is not up to snuff they dont keep up with contemporary architecture thats why they teach outmoded, useless stuff. those reading this will know who they are. yeah, hes a bit abstract and a bit of a control freak at the beginnning but my two quarters with guillermo were the best thing that could of happened to me at poly. sorely missed.
