During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...

I really like Dr. Liu and I think she is an excellent professor. Finance is a tough class and she did a really great job presenting the material. She gives 3 quizes, 1 midterm, 1 non-cumulative final and you also have to do a stock market case. The case is really fun and you learn alot about investing and managing risk. Her tests were very straight-forward; they were tough, but no tricks. Take Dr. Liu if you can!

Liu is a nice person in class and in office hour who really does want to have her students learn. As long as you keep up with the material and understand the homework, the tests and quizzes are straight forward. The material at the end was confusing to me and I don't think I did so hot for the final, but I guess keeping up on the homeowrk and getting a great grade on the midterm saved my grade. You can buy into the whole "Praise Gorman" theory and take him if you wish instead, but Liu is a good professor.

finance is hard. duh. so what does liu do for you? well, she does a fair amount. one midterm (35% of grade). one comprehensive common final (45% of grade). i hate common finals. we all do, but whatever - you can't stop them. if you're going to take finance, do YOURSELF a FAVOR, take it with Liu, as he's really straight up with her testing - no tricks. PLUS she lets you use a financial calculator. trust me, you'll die if you don't have a Finance Calc and you attempt this course. some professors don't allow you to use them, Liu does. take advantage of that. you do a group stock project, it's time consuming, but easy and worth 15 percent of your grade. the final is worth 45 percent and you HAVE TO MEMORIZE 2 PAGES OF EQUATIONS. do this memorizing EARLY. you will fail otherwise. also, don't just waive the problem sets and exercises she recommends - DO THEM. if you don't, you'll fail. this class is very calculated, and if you don't do the work EVERY DAY you will fail. that's not a fucking joke. people were dying all throughout the 4 quizzes and midterm because they didn't practice all the assigned problems. this class if way fucking hard, so make it easier on yourself and dedicate the energy i'm describing to the course. if you have to take this hard course, take it with liu. she's helpful and patient.

Liu was a really good teacher. The first day or so are a little intimidating with that asian accent she has going on. The bottom line is that she knows her stuff. If you do the extra material she gives you (which does not take very much time) you will do fine on the 3 quizes and 2 exams. I have room mates that have had every other finance teacher for 342 and LIU IS THE BEST BY FAR we have concluded. --- Also about the common final: I swear Liu single handedly wrote 90% of it because I had seen most of it in her extra material stuff that she writes. Do yourself a favor and take Liu
