professor medizade is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. in fact, im hard pressed to think of any situation in which any teacher could be worse. in our class, a group broke a large mercury thermometer and spilled a large amount of mercury on the ground. because mercury is highly toxic, you are supposed to evacuate the room. instead, madizade attempted to sweep up the mercury with a broom!!!!!!!! a broom!!!! yes, this is how dull this man is. for the sake of mankind, please dont take any class offered from this man.

This guy is the laziest professor I've ever met. I had him for lab and at about 45 minutes into the lab he'd be on me and my partners' asses to finish our lab so he could leave. Its not like we needed him there anywhere, we were essentially boiling water, but he insisted on pacing around telling us to hurry up. You may think we just worked slow, but we always finished the lab and the full write up in under the three hour time of the lab and we had the highest group grade in the class. He was absolutley no help, but at least he realized it. Any question I had, including ones about the lab procedure, he'd tell me to go ask Thorncroft(who had a class during this time)......WTF. Thorncroft even ripped on him during lecture, though it was always an 'unnamed' professor. The only reason medizade is still around is because he's tenured and they can't boot him. Seems like the ME department should re-evaluate EVER hiring a Medizade/Mehdizadeh again. (A little ME department history there..another prof hiding behind tenure). I don't know how Cal Poly engineering can uphold the reputation it has with professors like this.

Prof. Medizade I'm sure is a really smart guy, but he won't pass on any of his knowledge to you. Maybe taking him over summer was a bad idea, because this guy seems lazzzzy. He is extremely slow and lathargic during lectures, which consist mainly of him deriving formulas straight out of the book. Then he does examples (but not without his solutions manual in front of him) for the last part of the class period. He assigns a normal amount of hw, has two midterms and a final. You can definitely pass the class, but you won't learn much from him. Seems like this story is getting all too familiar in the ME dept...

This man is horrible. He doesn't teach at all. His lectures are torture, they are so slow and he just derives stuff right from the book. The test averages were so low. I got a 44 and a 68 and somehow managed to get a B+ in his course. He doesn't help if you go into him. Even though he doesn't take attendance, he still knows whose in class, so I would suggest going to every class. Try to avoid him if possible.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Boring lectures, hard to understand, irrelevant and unnessarily difficult tests, daily homework, combined with a very dry subject. I havent failed any engineering courses yet but im going to have to take that back soon. Seriously, Im not trying to rip on this guy because im bitter! Im not kidding, just watch the classes on power fill up while all of his get a handful of poor kids who had low priorities. Prof. Medizade, IF YOUR CLASS IS DOING POORLY YOU NEED TO REALIZE THAT THIS IS A REFLECTION ON YOU AND THE WAY YOU TEACH! Guess what, Im grading you now and I dont hesitate to give you an F-. Medizade, I really hope you're reading this. You taught me more about yourself than about thermodynamics. You have shown me that the Cal Poly ME Dept is blind enough not to notice someone who obviously hates doing his job almost as much as giving out A's and B's to students who work their asses off hoping that it will bring them one step closer to getting out of your little Hell that you created and call ME302. These are the same students who you have trouble finding any interest whatsoever in your class and even have to routinely fight sleep to pay attention. I hope I also taught you something. I hope you learned from me that the rest of ME faculty actually DOES know how to write a good exam, grade it fairly, and allow a grading curve that doesnt fail a majority of the class. Maybe if you weren't able to hide behind your tenure I wouldnt even be typing this right now, because you also wouldn't be able make a martyr out of everyone's GPA due to your own incompetence.

This class was not difficult only because I had taken Thermodynamics before with Thorncroft. If I had to rely on the fountain of "knowledge" spewing forth in lecture from his mouth I would have surely failed. I understand that you have to interpolate thermodynamic properties, but doing so 800 times in the course of a 50 minute tests seemed a little overkill. All in all, the Joker receives a poor grade in my book. "Where does he get those wonderful toys?"

Medizade is not that bad, I was very hestitant to take his class after reading his reviews, but I stuck it out. He sticks to the basics and keeps the class as simple as possible. It is a hard class, but if you come to class, pay attention, take notes and legitimately do the homework you should be okay. His test problems are tricky, but he gives a LOT of partial credit, so it works out all right. However, if you don't know your stuff really well going into the test it will be very hard. I would suggest looking over tests from previous quarters to study for the midterms, this helped me a lot. The new tests will be different, but at least you will have an idea of how hard his problems are and how much you need to know. The lectures are kind of boring, but if you go and stay alert you should be fine.

Please do yourself a favor and don't take him. If you have bad priority and don't have a choice, then take bowling or something instead. It will be an equal waste of your time. His lectures are completely irrevalent, the material he covers has almost nothing to do with the homework. That, coupled with a book that would be better off left at firestarter, makes for a crappy class. Avoid this guy like... I don't know. Something really bad.

Medizade wasn't nearly as bad as i expected. Although his lectures were boring and he doesn't understand any questions you ask him. Mr. Mendizade is one of the best teachers I ever had. He was always very helpful during his office hours and he gives good advise about how to study for the test. His tests are not easy but if you follow his advice (do the homework by your self, do not copy it, do the problems on the book) you will be okay. I really recomend him. Thank you Mr. Mendizade I really learned and enjoyed your class.

Medizade is actually a great teacher to take. Most people don't realize that he puts just enough material into his lectures that you can take notes while doing the crossword and sudoku, and not miss anything. I doubt you can say the same for Thorncroft or Locascio! In all seriousness though, this guy is totally useless. It's entirely possible that he knows about thermodynamics, but he's totally incapable of teaching. His lectures are a shambles, because he doesn't plan them out-he writes his overheads in the first section of the day, and reuses them for the later sections. On an unrelated note, he is a very snappy dresser.

I cannot agree more with the evaluation below, especially the part about being a snappy dresser. His lectures were all over the place and you might as well not bother going. Just get the homework assignments from someone else and if you can at least stumble your way through half of them, you should be fine. It is also extremely helpful to keep track of where all the important equations, information, and conversions are in the book since all the exams are open book.

Medizade is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. I just took LoCascio for Thermo II, and going into the class I knew I was fucked. Luckly, LoCascio 'reviewed' Thermo I for the first few weeks, and by review, I actually mean retaught us Thermo I. I did not learn a damn thing from Medizade, except for the fact that the tables in the back of the book are important. But do you really need a Phd. to emphasize the importance of thermodynamic tables? No. After taking LoCascio, I could teach this class better then Medishithead. This guy should be fired. ASAP! :)

Professor Medizade, you might want to brush up on your own knowledge of ME302, and consider actually bringing a lesson plan to class so that you don't continue teaching us the WRONG material. Honestly... I have checked the book or internet after multiple lectures, only to find that the stuff written on the board was completely wrong. Sure, you seem like a nice guy, and have great handwriting, but that's not what we're here for. I suggest not taking this class if you actually want to learn how to solve problems. Also he doesn't respond to emails worth a crap, selectively ignoring some.

Dr. Medizade is a nice person, but a horrible lecturer. You spend one lecture per week learning new material, and the rest of the days you just copy the same stuff over and over again. Homework is assigned and collected every class meeting, and he usually gives about three problems each time. The first test was much harder than the second, which is probably because everyone did so poorly on the first test that he made the second test much easier by giving an extra-credit quiz at one of the test problems. The final was somehow easier than the other two tests, fortunately. If I had to take this class again, I would definitely try to take it with someone else.

I'll tell you what, I was very shocked that I got a C in this course. I was fully expecting to fail the course. The final was very ugly and I only finished about half of it and I was prepared to retake it in the fall. He curves the final score (40% of the grade...from what I saw no one else finished in the time alloted either). Also quizzes are 60% of the grade so there is no reason to fail this class. Everything is challenging but Medizade is no different from any other professor I had. He takes a little getting used to, but believe me I've had a lot worse. If you show up to class, do the assigned homework the quizzes are passable. Medizade is a nice guy and he is willing to help you if you show up to office hours. I don't know why people dislike him so much, he curves the course! How many teachers do you all get at this level that will curve the grade??? Don't believe the hype Medizade is the real deal. I'm going to take him for fluids. I'm not even an ME major.

All the other reviews are right, tests are ridiculously hard. I knew I did horrible on the first midterm, got about a 50 and he claimed the average was about 70, total lie, 50 was about the average. Second midterm I thought I did alot better, but small mistakes got me a 60 so not much better. I then took the final and I am pretty sure I failed. Completely. I only had complete answers for 3/5 questions? I ended up getting a C- which I was thrilled about. So teach yourself the stuff and just make sure you are about the same as everyone else. We also noticed that he liked to pass the tests back in order of highest grade to lowest. The lowest score for midterm 1 was 10, and midterm 2 was 25. Good luck.

Not that bad of a professor really, his lectures are mostly theory and dont have anything to do with the homework, but course is based on weekly quizzes which make up 60% of your grade. The quizzes are exactly from the homework so you will need to teach yourself a little bit from the hw but all in all decent professor

If you want a professor that does the following take Medizade: - Wastes Lecture time with incorrect formulas and re-deriving basic formulas - Tells you what to study for quiz and quizzes on something completely different - Assigns daily hw which often doesn't even get close to comparing to the quizzes or final material - Is completely out of touch with the class - Makes you come to his OH once so he can try and butter you up the week before evaluations - Shakes your hand as you leave the final and gives you a C in the class

Medizade is by far the worst teacher I have ever had here at Cal Poly. He comes in and starts class by writing equations down and you would expect him to describe what he is writing but no, he just writes them down and expects you to know them. Then he gives homework problems and states the equation you need to do the problem but doesnt ever explain how he derived the equation. Sometimes he will make up his own homework problem, but dont worry it is one of the example problems from the book. You learn absolutely nothing from this guy. His quizzes are from the book, but they are the last ones from that chapter and are completely impossible to do. One day in class he told us all he was going to do an example problem and so he writes out all that is given and then goes ok go home and finish it, you have absolutely no idea where to go and what to do. Thank god for the solution manual because I might have never figured out any problems if I relied on him. Dont bother asking him to finish a problem or even helping you out with one. He looks around then tells you he doesnt have his notes on that problem so he cant do it. What kind of teacher cant even look at a problem from the course he is teaching and attempt to help you along. He definitely is the laziest piece of shit, I do not understand how he ever was hired or how he stayed here this long. Its a disgrace to Cal Poly and I want my money back because he made the course a total rip off.

undeniably the worst professor I've had at cal poly. He is incredibly lazy and unpersonable. He would rush us out of lab half way through the lab period when every other group had finished because he wanted to go home early. The one time I asked him a question during lab he made me feel bad about asking for help and not figuring it out on my own. Does very little to explain the material instead you are stuck reading pages of derivations from the lab book. He is clearly one of those tenured professors who doesn't care about teaching and wants to slide by with as little effort as possible.

I had Medizade for a tech elective and recieved an A. For some strange reason I decided to take him for 434 due to a bad priority. I strongly feel that I now hold a General Concentration in the Medizade art of laziness. He tought me how to skip class, do HW the hour before class, and wing the midterm and final. He shows no desire to teach, and I felt like each day in lecture was virtually impossible to sit through so I usually went home. Oh, and in case you have any doubt, check the ratings for "Amrollah Medizadeh" or however you spell it. I know its the same guy, which is evidence for some shady scheme of hiding this guys pathetic efforts at teaching. So in conclusion, YOU CANNOT PICK A WORSE PROFESSOR FOR A COURSE. ANYONE THAT GAVE THIS GUY A GOOD RATING IS A) THE PROFESSOR HIMSELF or B) SOME LOSER WHO RECIEVED HIS ONLY "A" AT CAL POLY FROM THIS GUY DURING HIS SR. YEAR.

He wrote a broken midterm - and took points from everybody\'s grade because they didn\'t overcome his idiocy the way he figured they should have after the test. I don't know if at any point he was a good professor, but he certianly is not now. For some bizzare reason I have taken him for 2 classes. Thermo 1 and Petroleum production engineering. I can honestly say that between the two classes the only thing that I have learned from him is how to fall asleep with my eyes open. Most of the time he doesn't even know how to solve his own test questions, so if you make it look like you know what you are doing you'll get credit. Be prepared for some of the worst written tests known to man, complete with grammatical errors, missing parameters, and incorrect symbols, and missing information. If you want an A in a 4 unit ME class, take him for oil recovery or something and just study for a couple hours before each test. If you want to feel like a retard in thermo 2 take him for thermo 1. If you like taking tuesday thursday classes and being let out 15 minutes early everytime, take his class. Let me break down wind energy for you. Half the class never had a textbook because Medizade was too lazy to put the order in to the bookstore. If you wanted the book, you had to go through amazon or some other outside source to get it. Every lecture was the same thing . . . show up and watch him incorrectly copy from the book onto the board and wait for someone to correct him, teach him what he was supposed to be doing and in turn teach the rest of the class. The midterms consisted basically of about an hour and a half of manually doing an excell spreadsheet. Our "term paper" for the class was to come up with 5 ideas for a wind energy wet lab . . . my guess is the ME dept requested he come up with lab ideas, so rather than do it himself his lazy ass just turned it into an assignment for his class. Medizade is the greatest example of a teacher taking complete advanges of tenure that I have ever seen. If the ME dept had many more teachers like this out school's reputation would die really quick.

Medizade taught the first 6 weeks of the class, and Lemieux taught the rest. It wasn't until Lemieux started teaching that we started learning things, because Lemieux knows a ton about wind engineering but is a lot tougher. The term project was really tough (too much MATLAB), but I pulled an A in the class because I did well on the final, and he must've realized Medizade is a fucking joke and voided all of Medizade's grades (I bombed the midterm).
