Ginger Hendrix, what can i say. She is amazing teacher that truly cares about her students. She is very creative and has unique anecdotes and stories which the class tends to really like. She is pretty funny and made class enjoyable. I honestly looked forward to going to class. Strongly recommend office hours and trust me she is also a very helpful resource for school. Also had her for 134 and i can tell that i improved. She makes you work for it and become a better writer (i strongly hate writing but not as much no more). Not only is she a good teacher but also a great person. By the way she has an album in itunes (Go check it out). "Fuck you fuckity fuck fucker", that was mentioned on one of the lectures by the way lol. that should tell you enough about her. Should definitely take her!!!

I loved Hendrix! for English 102, the class consisted of three essays, and the revision of those three essays as your final. Each essay was very open ended, so you actually got to write about something you WANTED to write. Even if you hate writing, this approach makes it at least some what enjoyable. You might even find out a little more about something. Hendrix genuinely cares about your writing, making her very approachable. She's very helpful in giving you feedback in what to do to elevate your essay(s). Put some effort to meeting the requirements of the classic rhetoric for each essay, and you'll do fine!

WAY WAY TOO MUCH WORK for a general education 100 level english class. Almost your whole grade is based on one gigantic reasearch proposal. It is seariously the size of your senior project. She is very nit-picky about the paper and every little detail of it. She is a nice lady and she does make a torturous class pretty fun...but seriously...just because the size of the project I don't know that i would recommend her. It is way too big...let me emphasize that again...THE PROJECT IN THIS CLASS IS FREAKIN' HUGE!!!!

Hendrix is absolutely awesome. She won't take any crap and does give a lot of work, but she is honestly invested in her students and seems to really want everyone to succeed. Office hours are very helpful. She has a very sarcastic sense of humor, but relates very well to the class. Her experience is also impressive. She is a writer as well as a professor, and she practices what she preaches. For the first time in a class, I really felt like the work I put into it was worth it. Overall, if you have the chance and you're up for a rewarding challenge, TAKE HENDRIX! (Oh, and be sure to ask her to sing the Alphabet Song at the end of the quarter. So good. Haha.)

Ginger was a pretty good instructor. I really don't have any complaints about her. As long as you go to the class and relly put in the effort to try to learn what shes teaching things will go very well for you. I would've got a better grade if i didn't try to take this like a high school english class for the first half of the quarter. Once i stopped bullshitting all my work and actually listened to what she was trying to say I ended up learning a lot about the writing process.

She was an amazing teacher!! I have never been a good writer but she helped me to develop my skills. the class had a lot of work but it was worth it. She also canceled class a lot. Towards the end of the quarter about a third of all classes were canceled. She was also very willing to help out with any problems that you may be having and class was for the most part entertaining. Make sure you ask her to sing the alphabet song at the end.

She really tries to give you a new way to write. She is funny and tries to connect to her students. She is also a hard essay grader, but if you put in the time and effort to your writing you will be rewarded by a good grade. When it comes to getting help with writing she mostly tries to guide you towards the right path, but she will not give you any kind of answer. She will only guide you and leave the rest up to you to decide. I highly recommend her. She is a great professor, as a teacher and person!

LOVED!!! this class. It was actually a stretch course for Eng. 102-134 so had her for 2 quarters. Grading wise I believe is fair a little hard but overall she gives you the things you need to start a good writing foundation. There were about 4-5 essays. Last essay was the final. There are no limits or restrictions to how long your essays need to be unless you ask her for them. Very cool kicked back teacher.

LOVED Ginger. Best teacher I have had at Cal Poly so far. She makes class interesting with her humor but also her great knowledge of the material. She is great at helping her students understand the material better and teaches a lot in her class. Go to every class because she will notice if you are not there. Definitely take this teacher!!!!!!

Easy easy easy easy A. She just wants you to try. She wants to help you. Very comical. Good sense of humor and easy to get along with. Office hours are very helpful. The hour passes by really quickly and she makes it easy to pay attention in her class. Our midterm was a 6 word spelling and vocabulary test. She gave everyone who tried an A on the first essay, which was basically an essay about yourself and your writing life. Definitely recommend her!

Hendrix is honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had, and easily the best English teacher I have had. I have to admit, her class really is an easy A. Her midterm was a breeze, homework is nonexistent, and her essays are incredibly free form. But beyond that, she fosters an appreciation for writing. She makes the class want to write by tearing down the arbitrary walls that confined us in high school. Her class isn't about word counts and page counts, it's about writing about what personally matters to you. Every essay I have done in her class has been a labor of love and not something I viewed as work to be done. She brings a spirit to the class that is all her own. I was surprised to see how much she cared about each personal student of hers, and the time she puts into her work is apparent. My only regret in taking her class is in knowing that she doesn't teach other GE classes (at least not this quarter). I can't go back to the redundancy of my past English classes after experiencing how well a class can actually be taught!

By far the best English I have ever had. She was very helpful during office hours and was always willing to help you out. Sometimes it was frustrating because you just want a clear cut answer that can not be given. She is a hilarious woman; who kept her class interesting. I came into the class dreading english and essay writing and left a little happier. She honestly just wants you to try. Her midterm is super easy (like cram the morning before). She is fair when it comes to grading and you are always welcome to go discuss a grade with her. If you can I would enroll in her class. BEST TEACHER!!!!!!!! ( no not because I got an A, but because she actually teaches!)

Ginger is an amazing teacher. not only does she care so much about the students but she loves to teach. As much as i hated english she made me understand more about it and like it even. there are 4 essays total. midterm was literally memorizing the definition of 6 words. for the essays we make up our rubric so we knew exactly what we needed to have. the only thing i didnt like is that i felt like i didn't receive much feedback. she handed back graded essays 2 days before the next one was due so there wasn't much time to fix the new essay in order to improve it. other than that i would recommend her. she made the class fun and entertaining. shes is very sarcastic so if you don't really like that then you shouldnt take her.

I had Ginger my first quarter at Cal Poly, and I honestly was a little obsessed with her. She is HILARIOUS, and she is also an awesome teacher. I didn't mind writing before, but after taking her class I found myself actually enjoying writing. She provides lots of helpful tips and tools to make writing an easier and quicker process. I would highly recommend taking her if you get the chance. Also, there is hardly ever homework besides working on the writing that you do in class, and the midterm and final were both easy. AAAND she writes and sings children songs and you can find them on iTunes, and they are all really cute and funny. she doesn't mind if you ask her about it too :)

She was a pretty cool proffessor. She was laidback and pretty funny at times. Sometimes it seemed like she didn't like being in class so she would call it early. She cancelled two classes during the quarter and let us out an hour early the last week. She was a hard but fair grader. As long as you follow her guidelines and instructions you will do fine. We also had reading quizes, if you read the chapters in the book they are really easy. Overall, she was a good teacher.

LOVE HER!!! Ginger was an amzing teacher! my whole class loved her not just me, she was very helpfull and really wanted you to understand how to write. I hate english and reading but her class was interesting and fun! She is so funny she makes the time go by fast. Also she doesn't just lecture to hear herself talk she lectures so you get what she is trying to say. Anyone who has a problem with Prof. Hendrix is an idiot who brings politics into things when they aren't needed. She doesn't tell you all about her views but rather lets you figure it out for yourself. FAVORITE TEACHER at poly by far! But hey if you want some old dude who is extremely boring and completely uninteresting go ahead and take someone else.

One of the things i love about Prof. Hendrix is her encouragement to students to write on topics that interest them and not to just write to please her. I was hesitant going into this english class but it turned out to be one of the best classes i've taken. Yes, you do have to work... And yes, you do have to think and actually try to write your best-- but she is so helpful to get you there. Her authenticity and ability to make persuasive writing interesting made this class great. And i don't think that I'm alone in saying that. Also- use her office hours- i actually really liked going. She's real, she's helpful, she's a strong and encouraging lady. Take her.

I am enrolled in her class right now, and I have to say it has been my favorite class since I have been at CP. The work load is easily manageable. At the beginning of the quarter, we had readings a few times a week that are kind of bland but do-able because a lot of it is commonsense. Sometimes we would have quizzes on the readings, but she usually warns you ahead of time. The quizzes are graded pretty easily. She assigns homework a lot of the time, but it takes probably about only a half an hour at the most if you are easily distracted. They are easy points, so I recommend doing them. We only had to do two essays, one for the midterm and one for the final. She is not an easy grader on the essays, but she is really helpful in her office hours. Overall, her class is really fun and laid-back. It's more like a group discussion/conversation rather than a lecture. Definitely recommend her.

Moderated Comment
... Ginger is by far the worst english teacher I have ever had. My high school AP teachers were more competent than her. She has her own methods of writing and, if you they don't work for you, she tells you that your aren't putting any effort into the class. I guess the best way to get an A in this class is to agree with everything she says and at least fake interest. She constantly interrupts students and answers with sarcasm and immaturity. I went to talk to her in office hours about about my essay and all I got was a smug look on her face and sarcastic and bitchy remarks about how I did not understand university requirements. Every time I tried to bring up a specific part of my essay, she interrupted me and called me disrespectful. I really wanted to know how to get a better grade and was being incredibly respectful. Basically, I can't believe I paid tuition for this class and I'm disappointed in Cal Poly for employing such an incompetent "professor."

Hendrix does put in an effort to get her students to think for themselves. She won't spoon feed you answers to your questions, but instructs you to go and discover your answers on your own. Although this method does allow you to get better in critical thinking, when you really are stuck and do need help she is not there for you. Instead, she just questions the ideas you already have and tells you to go and journal your thoughts until you come up with an answer. At the beginning of the quarter you have reading homework which takes much longer than half an hour! I would say it takes between an hour and an hour and a half. She gives pop quizzes on the material that asked for extreme detail from the readings. This went on for about the first half of the quarter. My class had two projects (one by yourself and one in a group) where you do all the research for an essay and some work that goes along with that, but do not actually write the essay. We only wrote two essays for this class overall, and there were no in class essays. TAKE EXTREME CARE WHEN WRITING ESSAYS TO GEAR YOUR WRITING TOWARD A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE. Overall, if you want to challenge yourself and have some writing skills already, take this class. If you don't want to work hard, and need someone to guide you in your thinking, I would not suggest taking her.

The majority of your grade is a huge group project (900 points) which involves a proposal for change in the community and a solution for whatever problem you think there is. It's not difficult, just very time-consuming. There are weekly online quizzes which you should get 100% on so long as you actually use your book sitting right in front of you. An A is totally attainable in this class, you just have to be willing to put forth the effort to get an A. The project is ~30 pages and is done in groups, so make sure you like the people you're working with b/c you'll be spending A LOT of time with them. Be sure to include even the tiniest details b/c that is what will ensure a better grade. I think she is a terrific professor who genuinely wants to help her students. She has a great sense of humor and is very sarcastic, keeping the class entertained. I would suggest her, but only if you're willing to actually work for an A b/c she won't just hand it to you on a silver platter.

Hendrix kicks ass. She is down to earth and really relates to the students. There is no pretense around what is and is not practical. She really understands her material...and presents it clearly. She pretty no nonsense, but her dry humor could keep me entertained for hours. She cares about the students and really relates well to them. So, the final project isn't fun, but it is a department requirement, so you'll get it in any G3 class. The other reviews that whined about the project, forgot to mention that you pick your own topic. They decided to choose something too big for them to handle. I got a C, but that's what I earned, and I'll admit it. She doesn't make getting good grades impossible, but you will work for it. You'll learn a lot in the process.

Hendrix is awesome. She tells it like it is and doesn't treat you like a high school idiot. She is hard, but if you listen, you learn a lot. I got a bad grade because I bullshitted the final project, which she tells you is a huge part of your grade. Some people complain because the project is so big, but you get to choose your own partner, and project. What more could you ask for? If you want to learn, take this class. And she is great, just don't treat her like another blind, ignorant professor.

Mrs. Hendrix took a dry subject (technical writing) and did her best to make it interesting with jokes and sarcasm. If you like teachers who care about their students but don't hold back on making fun of them in class (never with a mean spirit), take Hendrix. In fact, if you need to take 149, take Hendrix. She has some super simple quizes and a big writing project for a final, and she will help you as much as she can along the way. Hendrix is among the most knowledgable (she teaches part-time and is a professional techincal writer the rest) and enjoyable teachers I've had.

She gives some strange assignments in comparison to the other 149 teachers, but you grow to love her. You'll never be bored in class, as she has an excellent sense of humor and understands that the material for a tech writing class is mostly boring. Lot of work to be done in this class, and probably more for her than others, since she sincerely cares about teaching the material to you. Overall, I suggest taking her. If you're going to be working a lot for 149, you might as well do it for a professor that you like and enjoy.

Hendrix is an odd teacher. She has a dry sense of humor which sometimes makes the class enjoyable. She seems to always show up late and takes forever to give you back assignments that show you how she felt about your writing. Make sure that you pick something you like for the final project. It is a bitch and our group worked every day for almost three weeks and we still got a D on it. I feel that I learned almost nothing in the class and would suggest that you might want to try to get a different teacher.

Gingerbread is an awesome teacher for engineers. She knows we all have this inner-hatred for English that drove us to becoming CENG here at Cal Poly. The work is a large sum that can be drawn out and stress-inducing, so pick a group of cool buds to work with and always have fun when you meet up to do work. Work harder on how your project is designed than on the content; quality can win higher grades. Great teacher.
