seriously, you cannot make sense of anything she says. She often contradicts herself...but she's really nice and I think my entire class got A's

ahhh... madoka! for the professor formerly known as madoka dawson, this class kind of falls into that "joke of a nutrition class" category. it reminded me of fsn 230 because the curriculum was boring yet if you didn't study well you could potentially not get an A. the power point lectures day in and day out were lame, but there wasn't much else she could do to present the material- besides old school videos that are worth a laugh. the lab is a joke- we were often done touring the site before the first hour was up! your grade depends on 1 midterm, the final, a group floor plan presentation (that she took her sweet time giving us instructions for) and all your lab reports. She matches your attendance in lab to the number of lab reports signed in, so be sure to sign in or have a friend do it of you're not there. There's also this vague equipmwnt specification assignment that -again- she doesn't prepare you much in advance for, but it's really no sweat.

If there was another professor teaching 343 & 344 I would recommend staying far away from Madoka, but since you have no option but to take her prepare yourself for 10 weeks of boring powerpoint presentations explained in broken English. The only way you can take notes in her class is if you buy the bound powerpoint presentations from el corral....but if you have those why even go to class? Definetly a joke of a class, I don't feel like I am any more prepared to venture out into the intitional food service world. Be sure to study for the tests, she asks obscure, yet very specific questions on her exams.

She is one of the worst prof that I have had here. There is no organization in her presentations. She jumps from subject to subject and does not follow her power point. You can barely understand her. Even going to office hours, she offers no help. I thought this class would be an easy A, but her tests are impossible. I cannot believe Cal Poly would hire this teacher and keep her here. I would love to know about institutional food service, but I have gotten nothing from this class except a headache

This class is hard to get an A in. My mother is Japanese, so I have no problem with her accent or English skills, but I still had no idea what she was talking about most of the time! I got an A on the first test by just looking over my friend's slides even though I missed about two weeks of class. Between the midterm and the final, I went to about 2 classes, and didn't really study much for the final, and I ended up with a B. Don't buy the textbook. If you miss lab, have someone sign in for you. The projects are way easy, don't stress about them, she won't tell you about them until right before they are due, but everyone gets 100% if you just do them.

She's a nice lady, but fails to teach. The only time I managed to learn is the day before the test. Most of the time I don't understand what she is teaching because of her unorganized RED BOOKLET! You should definitely take notes and not relied on her RED BOOKLET. Field trips are boring and pointless!

She is the worst teacher I've had in the FSN department. Very redundant and boring powerpoints with information that does not make sense and is very contradicting. Her midterm and final contain over half T/F questions which do not demonstrate learning but simply show pointless memorization. I wish another teacher would teach this class. Terrible waste of a quarter for a FSN class.

She is a very nice lady. But, she is a bad teacher. Her lectures are all over the place. Her powerpoint slides are very unorganized. Whatever she writes on the board looks like chicken sh*t. She is extremely unclear of what she wants out of the assignments required for the class. I want to cut myself whenever I am in her class.

I've been sitting here now for a good ten minutes trying to find at least one good quality about this professor... and... nothing. Well actually, I guess she doesn't physically beat and abuse the students, I guess that's a good thing. She is unorganized, hard to understand, and her lecture slides aren't much help.

One of the worst professors at CP. Her Powerpoints are pointless, meaningless, and completely onorganized. In fact the entire class is unorganized. She won't explain the project until the week before it is due. Don't bother to go talk to her in office hours because she doesn't want to talk to you. If you don't get a concept because she can't teach, ask another professor.

Worst teacher ever. Not only can you not understand a word she says, she has no organization and her powerpoints are useless. Does not give you any direction on vague projects and will not help if you ask her questions. AWEFUL!!!!

Mundane powerpoint... tried to be helpful by having slides bound together by el corral for purchase except 90% of the time she added new slides or changed the presesntation and even worse: it was all out of order. Nothing new to expect since you had her for 343 and 344 but how this woman continues to teach at a fine institution like cal poly is beyond me. your grade is determined by a ridiculously hard to decipher midterm (what else is new), a 50 point presentation (cake) and the final (yet another poorly-written exam coming your way). i am so glad to be done with this lame series of food service but pissed off that madoka is the only teacher you can take. good luck!

Madoka has checked out from being a professor. It's a shame that this course is taught so poorly because it could be really interesting.

This class (In addition to 343/344) is relatively easy due to the fact that Medoka's teaching is simple and pointless, misguided and mostly stories. I did better when I was a DRC notetaker so that I actually made notes on things, otherwise I would have been completely lost. It's easy to get distracted and it's hard to understand what her points are. It's a shame that these three classes are mandatorily instructed by her because I feel I could have gotten much more out of it. I know she has personal issues going on but I agree with the post below that she's checked out from teaching, which makes Tenure really disappointing. I know it's hard but you should probably pay attention to get an A, review lightly and do NOT read the book, it's all lecture, but you do have to buy it for the assignments. Best bet is to find a friend and go in on it together and work on assignments in pairs.

Madoka is by far the WORST prof at Poly. The Food Science and Nutrition Department needs to find someone else, because Madoka doesn't teach, she just reads off her boring slides. Her lectures are pointless. She is pretty cold and uncaring, so that makes the class even more mundane. No wonder people call her "the Nazi." She doesn't promote learning, I seriously don't know why she's "teaching" if that's what she calls it. To do well, just know your notes, as for 343 and 344. You don't need the book at all, so don't waste your money. Hopefully she will retire soon to save the rest of the students from misery. Good luck.
