Sonja is amazing! She explains everything in full detail and is willing to work with you anytime! She's nice and sweet as can be, patience, and can teach you different methods that fit your style of learning. Very flexable and loves to teach. Down to earth, work isn't difficult if your on top of it. Test are every 2-3 weeks, objective must be done by the end of the week. Homework is a week too, and you can complete the course early if you like.

If you struggle with math I highly recommend taking this class from Sonja. I took both 100 and 104 from her, she was awesome! If only all high school teachers could be like her I would have understood the material a long time ago. She is patient and understanding. She sends weekly reminders about assignment due dates and upcoming tests. She has a way of explaining the material so that it makes sense. If you ask for help she is always willing and available to you. I have never had a better math teacher! I wish I could take all the rest of my required math classes from her. She is outstanding!!!

amazing, i love sonja! She is so down to earth and truly wants her students to succeed. I wish every teacher at cal poly had the same attitude towards learning as she does. If you have any problems with the class or even just in general she is there! She is an awesome teacher and really acts like a mother to all her students and make sure everything is going great for everyone. The class is very easy, all online. you can finish the class early, which i did for 100 and 104.. I finished both classes in about 4 weeks then you can focus on the rest of your classes and your completely done with hers. love her, take her!

Where to start with Sonja, aside from the fact that she is the most amazing teacher i have yet to have at Cal Poly. I have never liked math, and assumed that her class was going to be like every other math class i had taken in high school, Sonja proved me wrong. She is one of those professors that you go back and visit because you actually enjoy being around them. She is super understanding and genuinely cares to get to know each and every one of her students on an individual basis. I had her class at 8 a.m and i walked out at 9 with a smile on my face almost every time. She is very good at explaining the math problems and makes sure you understand thoroughly before she walks away. She even gives you tips and short cuts that help you understand everything that much better. Dont be discouraged if you have to take math 101 or math 104 with her, you will not regret it. Greatest teacher by far!

I really like sonja a lot. She is the nicest and coolest professor I've ever known. She is really helpful in office hours. The course material can get really hard though and her tests are difficult. She is a really fair grader and tries to help you as much as possible. SHES AWESOME!

super relaxed gal, she likes students to call her by her first name! I am already super good at math so it was an easy class. Quizzes are a lot easier than midterms, I would recommend studying a lot for the midterms. However she is really helpful and just a really nice person that present information the best way she can.

Sonja is the best math teacher ever!! I had her lecture four days a week from 8:10-9 AM. She always made this class worth it to show up to, and was understanding of illness and school activities. I love this lady. She presents the information clearly and does her notes on the big projector on her iPad while you follow along with the same notes that you printed out. She doesn't collect homework, but the quizzes that she has once a week are 2-4 of the exact problems that were on the homework so I would recommend doing them. Her exams are fair. There are three midterms and if you score 80% or better on all of them, you don't have to take the final. I would recommend the 1 credit workshop that is offered because she gives the tutor a practice midterm that is set up exactly like the midterms that she gives in class, and it is the reason that I did so well. Take this class if you have a hard time understanding Math 117 concepts!

Professor Schuster is a very nice proffesor. She is very helpful in office hours, so if you are confused on a topic I highly recommend going. Also, I highly recommend a Math workshop for this class as well. As long as you do and understand the homework for her class, the quizzes are very easy (she uses homework questions). She has 3 midterms, but those are not hard either as long as you put in some effort to learn the material. She does not try to confuse you on the tests by putting hard/trick questions on it. She can sometimes explain the material in a confusing way (hence why I recommend a workshop), but as long as you have taken precalc recently, you will understand the material and should be fine. In her class if you get a certain grade percentage on all 3 midterms, then you are exempt from taking the final. I really appreciated this as a student because I worked hard throughout the quarter to get good grades on the midterms and I was able to not take the final:) Overall, she is a very nice and fair proffesor and did a really good job teaching this class especially for her first time teaching it.

She was a great teacher and I'd taker her again! She always checked in with students to make sure everybody was understanding and keeping up in class. She encouraged questions and was very approachable. You have a quiz every Friday based on what you learned that week. Homework is optional but homework problems are on the weekly quizzes so I'd recommend doing them. Also she has 3 midterms in her class, HOWEVER if you get above an 80% on all of them then you don't have to take the final.

TAKE SONJA'S CLASS. She is genuinely my favorite teacher at Cal Poly and teaches so well. Her grades and quizzes are extremely fair and test what she taught in class very precisely. She started to sub our class when our teacher of only a week and a half had an accident and ended up taking over. Best thing that has ever happened of us.

Best class and professor ever! In this class I learned so many tips and tricks from Professor Schuster that made math so much fun! She is extremely approachable and is very clear about what she is plans to test on. If you study the printed lecture notes before any of the quizzes and midterms, you will be good to go. She doesn't go in depth on anything that isn't important, but also notes key concepts or definitions that will most likely pop up on an upcoming test, which is super nice. She loves when people ask her questions and is always sure to make sure everyone is on the same page and isn't lost. If you get the chance to take her class, take it! You won't regret it!

Schuster is brand new to Poly. Her husband works in the ME department. She was really sketchy at first and didn't seem well-prepared to teach a college-level class, especially one as intense as a 5-unit accounting class. I doubted her at first but she picked up the slack as she went along. I learned much more than I thought I could have from a first year accounting professor. The tests are reasonable as long as you read the book and do the homework beacuse the end of each test has 3 or 4 problems you need to work out by hand. The comprehensive problem takes FOREVER! It's only worth 30 points though and the tests are worth 100. That makes no sense to me because the tests are easier than that gigantic problem so start the problem EARLY! Other than that this class is a necessary evil required by all business majors and Schuster isn't half bad compared to what I've heard about other professors. Just plan on a lot of work, it is a 5-unit class and she'll make sure you know that.

This is the first polyrating I have written, but I felt it is nescessary. Sonja Schuster is quite possibly the worst teacher I have had. Do not take this as the cliche horrible teacher rating. I have only had two classes from her, but u can tell she will be horrible terrible. This is her second quarter teching, but she is basically a poor version of a human textbook spewing out facts to memorize without any examples. What makes her even more confusing is that she makes abbreviations of all the financial accounting terms, but then changes them over the course of a lecture. Today a student told her the textbook and homework was easy, but he was totally lost in class. Avoid her like you would a hot guy or girl with a huge cold sore on their lip. Bus 214 is attractive because it is hard to get, but you do not want to get it from her. You will be sorry.

Take Schuster!! She's an awesome professor. She's gotten bad comments in the past because she's new but she's funny and tries to make accounting as fun as it can be. She tells random stories and keeps you entertained even though you just take notes and work through examples during class. Homework is due once a week at random and there are 3 midterms and a comprehensive final. She's really helpful and will only get better with experience.

She was a great teacher who cares for her students and her subject. She is by far one of the nicest teachers I have had yet. She might seem a little overly excited at first but that's who she is, she loves accounting and shows it. The material is presented in rather straight foreword lectures filled with examples, some of which are worked out in groups or by the class as a whole. She also brings into class her stories from her job as an accountant to use as examples for different situations. Overall, the tests might be little bit on the harder side but she is an excellent teacher who has fun with her students (baked everyone cookies and brownies for Valentine's Day).

Honestly Schuster is the one to take for financial accounting. She is by far the nicest professor I have ever met and REALLY DOES CARE how her students do. Her lectures cover EVERYTHING that is on the exams. If you just copy everything down that she writes on the board, you'll do fine. The tests can be tricky, just read the question a few times and it will make sense. She pretty much tells you what to study for the tests and EXACTLY what you need to know how to do for the written questions. She is willing to help you anytime especially with the comprehensive problem. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SCHUSTER!!!! she'll make you sort of enjoy accounting and leaves out all the useless stuff. In general it's a tought class but she makes it as easy as possible to pass.

Sonja was an AWESOME teacher. I was so worried when I had "staff" for my calc class, but I could not have been more happy with her. She is very energetic and bubbly, which made my 9 am class somewhat enjoyable. She has a very straightforward teaching style. She doesn't teach anything that you don't need to know to make everything easier on you and herself as well. She has hw that is not graded, just for practice. Her midterms are no too bad, she doesn't give you any curve balls. Overall, she was great and I wish I could have more professors like her.

Sonja is an AMAZING professor... she really is the best teacher I have had at Cal Poly. If you do the work and meet her expectations, there is absolutely no reason to not succeed! She is always prepared and makes herself available to meet. If she doesn't lecture on it, it wont be on the exam. She gets right to the point and her lectures really allow students to understand! Take Sonja, you will love her and it is well worth it... even if it is a morning class! The class is structured: 8 quizzes ( drops your lowest 2 and these are EXACT homework problems) 3 midterms (drops your lowest midterm) and a final

She really knows how to teach math, that's for sure. Show up to class and take notes. This class moves fast, so you can't afford to miss much. Overall it was a pretty easy course, 2 of the 3 midterms count towards your grade (25% each), quizzes are 15%, and the final is cumulative and worth 35%. Do the homework and the review and you'll be fine.

Schuster has definitely been one of my favorite professors thus far. She brings excitement to a class full of business majors that most likely aren't excited to learn calculus. She loves math but recognizes that a lot of people don't share that with her. She is extremely thorough as she clearly presents the material. You can tell she deeply cares about her students' comprehension of the material and this is apparent in her unwavering spirit every class of every week. 10/10 would switch to a math major to take more of her classes.

Sonja is awesome!! She truly cares about all of her students and wants to see them succeed. The class is organized very clearly and all of the material is presented nicely. Her lectures are straightforward, and she welcomes questions as she goes. I was terrified to take Calc, but Sonja taught so well that it started to come naturally. I would absolutely love to take another class with Sonja.

If Schuster is teaching this class, TAKE IT. Now, I don't find Stats that hard, but she made it even easier. She allows cheat sheets on ALL midterms and the final, so there is no possible way to not pass this class. This class is very, very easy with Schuster.

This professor was quite easy majority of the quarter. I felt like her tests weren't total setback (probably because I took workshop), however, she didn't really know the material like the back of her hand in a way that a professor should know. She was always scrambled, out of breath, and nervous if a student asked a question. I went to her office hours and she had to pull out notes of her doing the problems ahead of time because she couldn't just do them on her own. In MY opinion- if you can't solve them on your own WHY on this green earth do you expect me to?? AND most of all, during the world crisis of COVID 19 she was not super caring and understanding when i expressed wanting a higher grade. she made the final optional online timed 90 min, 50 multiple choice EXTREMELY DIFFICULT and had no problem bringing my grade down when it was ME who put in the extra work to study. that's it. thanks for coming to my ted talk.
