I don't know what the previous ratings are talking about. Jeff was a pretty cool teacher and I now wish I had him for CE 205. His lectures are a bit dry at times but they are worth going to. His tests are reasonable and fair for the most part. Watch out for statically indeterminate problems. The only reason I think I got a B was because I coupled this class with dynamics and physics 132. Just study the lecture notes in much more detail than the hw and you'll be fine. I was able to get a perfect on the final by just studying my lecture notes. A really good teacher overall- even if he happens to be from Cuesta.

Jeff is an awsome teacher. He has his notes already for you and all you have to do is fill them in. He gives a test after every chapter and the final is just another chapter test, so no pressure. Lectures can be dry, but this is CE 204, not very exciting stuff. Pop quizes are giving, but this is done by collecting a random homework problem that is suppose to be done by that lecture, this is his way of checking to see if you are doing the homework because he doesn't collect it. And best of all he gives you the solutions to the homework, so there are no excuses for not getting a 100% on your quiz score. Overall, if you want to learn and get an A, take this guy. Oh, by the way he doesn't drop the lowest test score, as some other person has stated.

Jeff Jones is quite possibly the poorest teacher ever to walk through the Civil Engineering department. He turns fun strength of materials into something that isn't as pleasant. He has a lot to learn about dealing with full time students and not your junior college Joe. He is an easy teacher because through the quarter you only see maybe a handful of problems, which come up again on the tests. There isn't much learning of the material as there is learning of the examples he provides. His poor personality and inability to work with or connect with the students makes him a bad teacher. He may be fine for cuesta, but the standards are higher here where people take their education more seriously. Don't take him if you have to. Jeff has a lot to learn about dealing with students. Until then, he should stay away from teaching and focus on something that he could at least remotely suceed at.

Wow what a professor!!! He really cares about his students he goes all out and does what ever it takes for you to understand the material. He puts all his lecture notes into a note book so you can just fill in as he goes along making learning the material very easy. He gives several tests during the quarter with the option to drop one. And the final is just another test so you can not take the final if you choose that one to drop. Definitley take him if you can for any class he teaches.

Great teacher. His notes are great and the examples which you can watch online realate to the tests exactly. He's a nice guy, very helpful in office hours, and grades fair (several tests instead of just a couple midterms). I actually learned what is going on in this class, as opposed to how to just do assignments.

Jeff does a GREAT job of making alternative resources available to his students. He wants us to do well. He provides all of the lecture notes so students can read along and fill in during the lecture. And the best part is that he has incorporated all of his class material onto his website, so you can see examples, homework problems, etc. worked out at any time. He does a great job of explaining the material!! I recommend this professor to anyone who wants to gain a pretty solid understanding of the material, but work hard to do so.

breaks everything down really well, TESTS AND HOMEWORK VERY FAIR, you wont learn quite as much as you would from a more challenging professor, but YOU ARE HIGHLY LIKELY TO ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL, AND ENJOY IT. jeff is great!

I took the class online at Cuesta. The grading is straightforward. Two exams worth 35% of your grade each. First one is pretty easy. Second one is hard. Non cumulative. Homework and quizzes comprise the remaining 30% of the grade (15% each). You need to watch the online lectures a LOT in order to understand the material. Since I was a distance student, I couldn't make it to his office hours and he wouldn't have online phone/skype hours. Homework is due every other day. There is a quiz with every homework. Homework is pretty hard depending on the subject being taught. Post in the discussion forum early and often if you're having trouble.

This guy rubs one out before he comes to class everyday. This guy is the most unprofessional teacher at Cal Poly. Maybe that is the reason that he teachers at Cuesta. Advice to Jones: Quit and go back to Cuesta or Fucking retire. Oh and I received an A in your class because a chimp could get an A.

This guy is a tool. He comes in everyday from Cuesta, untucks his sweater from his underwear (really happened) folds it nicely, sits down and begins lecturing in his monotone, dull, irritating voice. Thank God CE 205 is already the easiest class because there is no help from this teacher. The tests are right out of the notes and quizes are turned in homework problems, which make an A in this class no effort at all. The worst thing to do in lecture is pay attention because he makes several mistakes each class period. And for every one mistake it took 5 minutes for the class to argue to him that he actually made a mistake. There are many other CE teachers out there that are much better (Devaney). So take anyone else than Jones, you will thank me when you are not forced to listen to this guy drone on.

Jones is definitely over-rated. He is a nice guy and has a nice system, but he really cut corners in my class. I tried to go to his office hours twice and both times he was a no-show. Maybe I had bad luck, but that doesn't fly with me. He also was a no-show for our last class before the final. His grading system is straightforward, but he didn't really put much into this class. Take him, but be prepared for flakiness.

This guy is terrible. Good thing any putz could get an A in this class because his lectures are worthless. It's obvious which reviews Jeff wrote himself. I would recommend any other teacher, even the professors who can't speak english. You will get much more out of the class and may even pick up some culture.

Jeff Jones is sweet in a Mr. Rogers kind of way. Except I like Mr. Rogers better. If you laugh in class, he'll think you're laughing at him. So save it for after class if you thought of something funny that happened earlier in the day. This guy does NOT know what he should be grading for. I got dropped two grades on a perfect test because i didn't follow his heading format: name, course, date, number of pages, course call number, social security number, his name, blah blah blah.... He's very slow in his lecturing, but his notes are good if you have him for statics.

TAKE HIM... if you are fortunate enough! Jeff is the best type of teacher you could possibly ask for. He is down to earth and his lectures are EASY to understand. He is a professional CE and head of Cuesta's department. He is the most prepared teacher I have every had and speaks clearly. You don't need the text for this class because he sells all his lecture notes for $15 at the beginning of the quarter and it is all you need. All the problems and diagrams are pre-printed for you and all you have to do is fill them in as you go over it (easiest notes ever). Homework is straight out of the book, but he provides the questions and diagrams for you separately in a packet which you just cut out and tape to your paper (sooo USEFUL). He issued several pop-quizes, but you are pretty stupid if you don't sense when they are coming (exactly like HW problems). HW is assigned after every topic and usually due the next class, HOWEVER... he posts all the "worked-out" solutions on-line (AWESOME) and leaves them there as a last-resort resolution for the students (especially useful if you can't make it to his incredibly helpful office hours)[always available...total work-aholic]. If that wasn't enough, he also records all his lectures (via video-taping his notes as he does them) and they are available on-line so that you can reference back to them when studying or if you miss a lecture. Two midterms and a common final which he prepares you well for. BY FAR THE BEST STATICS TEACHER YOU CAN GET at this school.

Jeff has been one of the best teachers I have had here at Poly. He explains everything very cleary and makes sure everyone understands what he is talking about. He has his lecture notes already printed out for you to buy, so you don't have to waste time writing down everything he says. Very helpful in office hours too. I am taking another class with Jones next quarter, so I highly recommend him.

this guy is definitely over-rated. Looking at his GPA you would think he is good; however, his policies are complete crap. he makes rules up and definitely his BS grades. Did i mention he is not a professor, and works at questa. dont buy his notes or the book... buy another statics book and copy the homework pages from someone in the class stupid enough to buy the book. This guy makes a profit from his "lecture notes". Basically this guy uses Cal Poly to pull in a few bucks, so he could wear his unnecessary suit, pretending he is important. GET A LIFE JEFFERY! I would recommend this class to a female.. it seems this guy doesnt get any, and pays attention to chicks in the class for his late night sess... WHAT A LOSER

All hail Jeff. Take him for anything he teaches. I don't care if you need it or not. He has an amazing ability to see where you're struggling and help you out. And not just by providing solutions, by actually having you look at a freebody and see whats going on. Jeff is the man.

Do this in his class, and you will get an A. 1) Show up everytime there is a homework due, which is everyday. 2) Do the homeworks because, the pop quizs are almost exactly the same. 3) Watch his "streaming videos", as he calls them, because he literally doesn't lecture after the first week of class. 4) If you do his homeworks and see his videos, the midterm and final shouldn't be hard at all. 5) If any homework problem is too hard to do, don't worry because he has all the solutions posted on blackboard even before you turn them in. You do not need a book at all because all the problems are also posted on the blackboard. Buy his lecture notes, about $15 dollars, and that is all you need.

Jones is a decent instructor, and I'd certainly recommend him over Cooper. He makes statics seem fairly easy, and the material is not all that new or hard, but I do have some griped over the intricacies of the course. He expected our class to learned all of the material through lecture videos he put online for us, which meant that we had to spend an hour or two watching videos for every one hour of lecture. In addition, he puts way too much material in the online lectures, expecting us to sort through it all to find what we need to watch to learn the material, which is hard to do. That's in addition to the roughly 2-hour homework assignments we had due every class. Instead of lecturing, he just goes over homework during class, which I found almost insulting after struggling to figure out the problems on my own from his videos and the author's cryptic homework solutions that he posted for us. Granted, it was neat for him to print out the lecture notes in one book for us so note-taking would be easier (though that book costs $50), put homework solutions online, provide us with fairly clear lecture videos, and put the homework online so we could print it out and cut and paste it to our papers so we didn't even need to buy the textbook, but the amount of time needed to watch lectures to learn on our own and figure out pain-in-the-ass homework on our own for this 3-unit course was unacceptable. This would be better if it were 4 units or if he actually lectured instead of wasting our time in class. Overall, he's a good statics instructor, but his class would work better if he just lectured during class, or even if he just cut down on the lecture material online to make it easier on us students. It's his responsibility to know what lecture material to present to us, not ours. To get an A in this class, you'll need to watch enough of the videos for the homework to make sense, do the homework and go back to watch the videos that you didn't think were important but were, finish the homework, go to every class to take every quiz (one easy quiz about every other class) and turn in every homework assignment, and study the homework for the tests (2 midterms, one final). Overall, that isn't that hard.

Everthing seems easy in this class until you take an exam. Half the class gets an A and the other half fails. Even thought the average is a C, I think it's very unfair. The online videos are helpfull, but they take way to long to watch them. Be prepared to spend hours outside of class just to learn the material. If want to do that, you might do ok in his class.

For the first half of the quarter you have quizzes every day. In the second half they are give more sparingly. Homework due every class, and 2 midterms. Supplementry videos to watch online if u like but not necessary. This class sounds like a shitload of work and it is. I have not spent so much time in any other class but it was worth it. THis class is the basis for 212, and ce204. As long as you do all the homeworks, listen to all his lectures, you should do pretty well. You also use his textbook instead of the main one. However, all test and final questions are from the main statics text. Jeff is a really nice guy and gets the material across well. Sometimes he does not fully finish examples in class, but you can just go to his study hours.

Great professor, very clear at solving problems. Best engineering professor ive probly had, if u are to choose between jeff jone and kennedy choose jeff jones, he is the best. I mean if u want to learn engineering learn engineering from an engineer and not an english woman. Well Jeff Jones is the best again, best thing is that if u do not know how to answer a question the solution is given to ya. Dont just copy the solutions cause u will fail the class, try the problem and it will help u learn. two midterms and a common final. surprise quizzes, super easy quizzes they help ur grade out. three problems a test not so easy. Good luck and remember.... Jeff who,..... Jeff Jones...... Jeff who,....Jeff Jones!!!!

Jones is an excellent teacher. He uses class-time very efficiently (which he's sure to point out a few times) and gets through the material quickly. The methods are shown in a way that makes them simple, and any material not explained thoroughly enough is in his online videos (a little long, but informative). I had low expectations for this class and teacher, but Jones made the topic enjoyable.

Great teacher, I only got a C because I failed the 2nd midterm and that was for not studying the right problems. His notes and lecture helps you so well. Not to mention I failed statics the first time around and I woulda gotten an A if I didnt fail the 2nd MT. That's how good Jones is. RECOMMEND! Must take him.

Jeff Jones presents the material in this class very clearly. Even if you don't understand everything in the lecture, or miss a couple days, Jones has a lot of resources outside the class. The online lectures he provides, and class notes help, as well as the problem solutions he gives you. The tests only consist of about three problems, and he will usually hint to what the problems will be during lectures! I can't imagine having an easier teacher for this class.

Jeff Jones! Who? Jeff Jones! Who? Jeff Jones! Who? Jeff Jones! But seriously, this guy is the best professor to get, hands down. I hear that even from people who took Kennedy or whoever else. Jeff Jones is the head of the engineering department at Cuesta, so he knows his Shiite. Take Statics from him if you like Mike Jones of if you just like good professors.
