Savage is still new to teaching so hes kind of a pushover. Mate 210 is the easiest class i have taken yet. The material is pretty easy and intuitive. Just do some problems before the quizzes and slap together a presentation at the end. Take him if u want a easy class

Typical engineering intro course w/ average prof. Go to class...look at powerpoint...remember concepts w/ little math...repeat for 10 weeks. At the end you have to do a BS presentation too. Savage is ok, still a little new but course material is a joke

Savage isn't that bad at all, it's the material that can get boring. His tests aren't that hard, you just have to learn to study boring material. The lectures were hard to stay awake through because they do all those slides, but I hear the department is working to better that. Savage is very knowlegable and has many real life comparrisons that make the class a little more interesting. He's a very nice guy and definately willing to help you make the grade if you want it bad enough. The points are a little weird, i thought I was failing the class at the begining, but turns out i was able to pass with a B. He's a cool guy to take, don't be afriad.

Excellent teacher and a great guy. This was his first quarter. He did his best to figure out how the class should be run by always asking us how things were going. His quizzes were fair and if the class struggled on one quiz, he would basically tell us exactly what to study. The class was easy for the most part because we never got into too much detail since the class was an introduction. I would definitely recommend taking him.

It's tough to truly evaluate Savage. On a teaching level, he wasn't so hot. He just went through the slides that Chen created (although, I guess others do this as well) and couldn't answer many questions. But, he was new this quarter, too, so you can't really blame him. What he does score on, however, and why I have to highly recommend him (for now, anyway) is that he keeps the class on a basic level. He just wants the main points to come through, and that creates an (over?) simplified class. But, hey, this works for me! He seems to have just thrown out As and Bs to just about everyone. So if that's what you want (it's just materials) then by all means, take him. He'll definitely TEACH better in time.

Dr. Savage is a pretty chill guy. You should for sure take him for this course. They tried to switch up the teachers on us for the quarter because another guy didn't want to walk as far, but we knew the Savage was the beter choice and ended up forcing them to switch us back to him. First, all his notes in class are given off of powerpoint. And, he puts all the powerpoint slides up on blackboard, so you can get everything you need from there. I only read occasionaly and did fine on all the tests thanks to the PP notes. If you do go to class, he gives out tons of bonus points too jut for doing simple things. The group project at the end is cake, but be sure to actually work on it in the 3 weeks or so he gives you...my group ended up doing it the day before. Good guy, easy class, easy A

Straight forward teacher. He tells you what is going to be on the tests(makes sense), and as long as you do the few problems that he tells you, you'll be getting A's all the way through. He brings a lot of experience from the field, and I learned a lot from him.

Savage is a great professor. He has such a relaxed attitude during every lecture and he manages to add some pretty funny stuff to his powerpoints. All of his lectures are on powerpoint, which he posts on the internet, so you dont have to go to class. He explains the material very well, and shows very good example problems. And the material is extremely easy. i think the average grade was a B+. I do feel that I learned a lot in his class also. definately take him if you have the chance. you wont regret it

Great teach. Would take him again in a minute. Explained well and has more real world experience than most. Cool funny guy that relates to students. Reasonable tests and no homework. Easy class but this guy made it a fun one.

Savage is one radical proffesor. He makes this class almost too easy. HW's not collected, the group project is a power point presentation, and every thing he wants you to know, i.e. tested on, is posted on black board. He provides you with all equations necessary, and hints if needed for computational problems. If you attend all the lectures you probably won't need the book, so I would recomend using the reserve copy to do the practice problems. I wholly recomend him.

Easy, slightly boaring, kind and very experienced. Coffee is a must during his lectures and you dont really have to study much to get an A.

Savage is an awesome teacher. This was one of the easiest classes I've taken at Poly. He knows his stuff really well and brings in interesting examples to class from his work experience. His tests are straight from the lecture slides, so don't bother spending over $100 on the book.

Savage is just that, a Savage. This class was actually pretty fun which is nice when your other classes are kicking your ass. His lectures are very clear and well laid out. He uses slides for his lectures are makes them interesting. He also posts his lecture notes which is great for studying. There is no homework. The tests are extremely fair. The group project is decently fun, except you can't choose your group. I also say don't buy the book, the necessary material you will find on his lecture notes.

i'm not even done with this class yet, but this guy is just a beast! this is the way shit should be taught. his tests are straight from lecture and homework, which makes sense, and they're totally fair too. you either know it or you don't. don't hesitate a second to take this guy. he'll show you what's up and will make you proud of Poly for hiring him.

If the class is at 7, don\'t take it unless you\'re good at teaching yourself the material. I feel like most everyone can get a good grade in the class as long as you understand the lecture slides and homework questions. Savage is a real good teacher and he knows his stuff. He made materials interesting to me. One piece of advice, just don\'t take this class lightly.

Professor Savage is awesome! I took his mate class way early in the morning at like 7 and he was able to keep me awake, and actually made me want to attend the class. He has these power point lectures that has everything you need to know ( you pretty much don't need the book ). His tests are hw questions that he assigns, so just review them because he puts all the answers online. He gives out bonus points that help boost your grade by a lot actually. you can earn up to 8 points and it goes straight into your grade. He's a beast. take him if you can!

Dr. Savage is awesome. He's got a ton of industry experience that he works into the class. He's also really excited about the material. He gives 5 tests (longer than quiz, shorter than midterm). They are easy if you look back through the lecture slides (which are posted on blackboard). There are also a few in class activities and hw assignments, but they are easy too. I learned a lot in his class and he's a really kicked back, enjoyable guy.

If nice were going to get me a job in industry, then I'd never worry about work. But lets face it, what you know and who you know get you the job. So unless you know somebody in industry, you're screwed. I crawled out of my mom with the same knowledge that we're "learning" in lecture.

Savage is a very chill teacher. He uses power point slides for everything, which is a blessing and a curse. You can just download the slides later, but he describes everything on the slides in great detail. For grades, there were 10 in-class worksheets collected and graded; they were really easy. There were five small midterms/big tests at the end of every section. The cumulative final was a double test. That setup made it really easy to study for the tests; you knew what was going to be on it. Study the worksheets and you will do just fine. The book was great but not really needed for the class. A great class for EE's trying to fufill tech electives.

I took Dr. Savage for Electronic Material Systems. Grades consisted of two tests, homework, technical writing, a project, and a final. The lectures were somewhat dry with him going over the powerpoint slides in class. The tests weren\'t too bad with most of the stuff coming off either the powerpoint slides, activities or homework. He grades the reports, activities and homework fairly leniently. The junior series project was not helpful in learning the material and was time consuming. This class was nothing special.

This class is extremely interesting. Dr. Savage makes it easy and doesn't make you memorize details that won't help you as an engineer in the long run. He really wants you to get the main points of the class, and also an appreciation of the complex material characterization techniques that have been created and used in many fields of science.

Every time I take a class with Dr. Savage, I am amazed. This guy has the industry experience, knows exactly what is important for us to know, and teaches us very effectively. I thought Mate 510 (materials analysis) would be difficult, but I was wonderfully mistaken. I was interested in what I was learning all the way through the class, and some of us even went with Dr. Savage to UC Santa Barbara to use their materials research lab. His tests are very easy, so long as you can memorize a fair amount of details. It's mainly multiple choice questions like, "Which is the most sensetive surface analysis technique?" or, "An STM can only analyze conductive samples because:..." There are also some calculations, but those are very simple. The first test this quarter was about 30 questions in about 50 minutes. Almost everyone finished. For the second test, Dr. Savage said, "I thought you didn't have enough time on the last test, so you have the full two hours for this one." And this second test was only 18 questions. The tests get progressively easier. Dr. Savage is the chillest teacher at Cal Poly I know. Take him.
